Detailed Reviews
If you can picture an old-style Queenslander, fully renovated, in amongst a garden of Eden, you get a picture of what this place is like. Brilliant location close to everything. Okay, it’s not on the beach but you gain more than you lose. The gardens are well maintained and could be described as a piece of art with all of the different native trees in the yard. We didn’t go swimming but the pool is well maintained and looked inviting (a bit cold for us in winter at this time of year).
The peacefulness of the area at night time is amazing and relaxing.
The rooms are cleaned immaculately. The communal kitchen area is well stocked with everything you will need. Water pressure is great. We used the communal barbeque and it worked out great (Woolworths is a 3-minute drive).
Dawn and Blair are fantastic people and so accommodating to any requests or needs.
I am normally pretty harsh on my reviews, but Licuala Lodge didn’t let me down in any area.
In fact, I’m already planning another trip back there when relatives come up from down south after COVID-19.

We were so lucky to see a cassowary wandering along the driveway of Licaula Lodge - a highlight of our visit . Dawn and Blair our hosts of this 6 room bnb were very welcoming and attentive throughout our 3 night stay . We used the well stocked guest kitchen and lounge to relax and prepare evening meals , watch tv and meet other travellers much like in a small caravan park but more personal . The bedroom was cosy quiet and bed comfortable. Wide verandah outside the room as well as outside the main house provided lovely outlook over the garden . We enjoyed the freshly cooked generous breakfast on the balcony each morning with Dawn’s special home baked bread . A most interesting couple providing a great personal service.

From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Dawn & Blair couldn't do enough to make our stay fantastic. Their garden is just lovely with a great pool also. The rooms are spotlessly clean with a nice sitting area on the veranda. And the highlight is the beautiful breakfast laid out every morning. They will cater for just about all dietary needs and if not too busy will cook special requests. On our last morning we had the best pancakes ever! I had mine with maple syrup and my husband had his with fruit & yoghurt.
What a great place with warm and friendly people. Thank you Dawn, Blair, Rohan and Bailey.

We picked this place because it looked a little bit different from the regular beachfront accommodation and we weren’t disappointed. As we drove in we were literally greeted with a cassowary and his chics strolling passed and disappearing into the rainforest that surrounds this special property. This cassowary was no stranger and hung around.
While you are still close to the beach you get to fall asleep to the sounds of the rainforest, and wake up to a beautiful breakfast served high on the deck of this pole home looking down on a tropical garden.
Dawn and Blair were very welcoming hosts even though we arrived early, thank you to you both for making it special.

Where do I start? Licuana Lodge is an oasis in the rainforest. John & Guilherme were wonderful & informative hosts. They had a wonderful variety of selections for breakfast, including home cooked bread & home made jam. Our bacon & eggs were delicious. The gardens are beautiful & so is the well hidden pool with its waterfall. Beds were very comfortable to sleep in & the water in the shower had good pressure. This is a wonderful place of tranquility & would not hesitate to come back. Especially as I missed seeing the cassowary so I am on a mission since my husband did see it.

Licuala Lodge is a little out of town, but we loved the peace and seclusion. The setting is amongst gorgeous gardens filled with birdlife and butterflies. The room was spotless, with beautiful decor. There was no TV in the room, but a guest lounge (which we didn't use) is available. The continental breakfast (fresh tropical fruit salad and toast) was delicious, and cooked options are also available. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed our stay very much.

Licuala Lodge came highly recommended in the Lonely Planet guide. We booked four nights and were not disappointed. The colonial lodge is run by the super friendly Dawn and Blair who serve fabulous breakfasts each day. They are also really happy to provide advice and recommendations on what to see and do each day, pulling out walking maps etc. We really enjoyed our stay here in the super clean and comfortable rooms, we would definitely stay again if we pass through Mission Beach.

Cant speak highly enough of Licaula Lodge and it’s owners Dawn and Blair. Wonderful stay here as a family, the grounds are beautiful and a profusion of tropical plants and the kids loved the pool. The breakfasts on the balcony really are excellent and we enjoyed the company of the hosts , who could not have been more welcoming. Lots of thoughtful small touches throughout the lodge and a guest lounge. To top it all we were lucky enough to see the local Cassowary and her Chicks in the garden. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay in natural surroundings.
