Detailed Reviews
My partner and I stayed at RGWR for two nights. The tree house was nestled in the rainforest with one of the most incredible views over the valley, and totally private. The accommodation is well equipped; full kitchen, spa bath, fluffy robes, outdoor setting & washing machine/dryer. The surrounding area has a lot to see and explore. Peta and her husband have really gone the extra mile to ensure their guests have a unique experience. Thanks so much!

Thank you for taking the time to put up a review. Being adjacent on 2 boundaries with the Wooroonooran National Park and positioning each treehouse on the ridges allows for spectacular views of the National Park and the mountain ranges. The Atherton Tablelands is a very special place, somewhat 'undiscovered' (even better) with many wonderful natural attractions such as volcanic lakes, waterfalls, national parks and little villages. And being 700 metres above sea level the climate is mild. And then there is the wonderful wildlife! Kind Regards Peta Nott

Loved loved loved this wonderful secluded piece of paradise! Beautiful treehouse in beautiful surroundings. The treehouse itself was fully equipped with everything you need including washing machine and dryer. Lovely breakfast hamper containing local produce. Big comfortable bed. The sounds of the rainforest morning and night was incredible and magical. We didn’t see another human being from the time we booked in until the time we booked out. We didn’t see the resident cassowary either but I can’t say I was disappointed!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your review is very kind. The cassowary that often visits is a male. Possibly he has spent 2 months sitting on his eggs! We hope he and chicks survived the breeding season and we see him soon. This time of year ( Summer) is very active with cicadas ( an insect) shrilling night and day. All accommodation has King size beds and situated privately in your own slice of rainforest. Regards Peta Nott Owner/manager

Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat is situated outside Malanda and Yungaburra, a 20 minute drive through beautiful rolling cattle country. Surrounded by verdant rain forest, our treehouse studio was spacious and adequately furnished, with a large verandah and wide windows through which to view the rain forest and clouded mountains in the distance. The kitchen was minimally but adequately equipped and the bathroom sported a large spa bath surrounded by lush greenery. We felt the studio was a little tired and in need of some attention, but it was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed well marked walks through the rain forest and the continual sounds of the surrounding rain forest. Our host contacted us by telephone the afternoon before our arrival but we did not see him during our three day stay, with “Covid free checkin” meaning no face to face contact. A phone number was provided for contact in the event of any problems but when we tried to phone about a small issue, as Optus users we had no reception and the office and adjoining house were unattended. We enjoyed our stay in this unique accommodation.

we have mixed feelings on this accommodation. it didnt start well as we were given the wrong place but not by mistake but because the spa didnt work in the one we booked so another smaller house was given to us. we should of been given a phone call and been given that choice before we arrived and not after having arrived and been given a smaller place without any explanation. so we took the one we book in the first place without the spa working. great place - quiet - wood everywhere but it was what we expected in the rainforest. had everything you needed and it was cosy. the downstairs bedroom and bathroom ( you have to go outside to get to these - which was ok with us ) is larger than the one upstairs and it was great leaving the blinds open and looking into the rainforest in the morning. just needs abit more cleaning under the beds and some sort of shelf space near the basin in the bathroom. had some great walks and saw platypus's along the way . david was informative on the birds and the musky rat kangaroo, which he feed every morning. also told us about local things to do. the drive into this retreat is beautiful and the gardens look good. the only other people we saw were at the daily feeding of the birds. didnt get off to a great start but all ended up ok and we all enjoyed our stay. hope a lesson is learnt that if things arent right please communicate. but we would love to come back to this wonderful part of queensland because as well as the retreat there is so many great places to go in an easy drive. we havent been up this way for ages and loved it.

Spent 2 nights here as a couple and it was amazing. We felt like we had our own secluded piece of paradise - we literally didn't see another person while we were there (the cabins are all quite separate from one and other). We had a 180 degree view over the rainforest which was so nice to wake up to. The breakfast provisions were sufficient for 1 breakfast, although with some extra bread we stretched them to 2. We enjoyed hikes around the property and also exploring the tablelands area. The location is great for exploring the Milla Milla/Ellinjaa/Zillie falls loop and Windin Falls hike. Would highly recommend.

+1
This is a true getaway experience from the distractions of the city life. No TV and in our case no mobile reception. While for some this may be a real negative for us, it was a detox. Rose Gum Retreat is nestled in the rainforest with tremendous views and very comfortable accommodation. We stayed in the Cockatoo (1) retreat which overlooked the valley below and the rainforest mountains in the distance. The rooms are well equipped with kitchen facilities to ensure you can cater for your needs. Note that you will have to do your shopping on the way as you are a little remote. There is a small pot belly/fireplace to take the chill off the evening air. As you are up in the hills, the weather is cooler and as we found quite wet. There are plenty of tracks to walk as well as day trips to attractions close by. Make sure you check out the ‘Hippie Hide’ in the morning to see the small rufous rat-kangaroos. Just another tip is to make sure you have insect repellant. This is the rainforest and there are mosquitoes and leeches should you venture along some of the tracks. We had a great experience even though the weather was unseasonably wet. Would very highly recommend.

Rosegums in the Atherton Tablelands is absolutely delightful. You are in the middle of thick rainforest in gorgeous tree houses. We had the treehouse looking out over the rainforest canopy. Waking to abundant birdlife and with a resident 3 cassowaries, Rosegums is in a great location, close to the Crater Lakes, waterfall circuit and Atherton. The management is super helpful with tips, and their website has some excellent suggestions for day trips. This accommodation was delightful, with a lovely breakfast hamper and fun kitchen, and the Atherton Tablelands definitely worth a visit..

This property is quite highly priced and one needs to be aware that the price reflects the unique environment rather than the luxuriousness of the facilities. They were adequate but not exceptional and the bathroom in particular was in need of a total revamp. The no contact check in was a little overdone but the manager David was affable and very helpful when I saw him. The environment was spectacular and I saw platypus but missed the cassowary.

This remote lodge where each cabin has total privacy is a hidden gem in a beautiful remote, forest location. The cabins are extremely well equipped and spacious. After your check-in you are left alone to enjoy and appreciate the solitude and nature.

Staying in a private wooden house located amidst the rainforest was lovely. The birdsong was loud and beautiful when sitting on the outside verandah. Although there is only wifi at reception, there is TV and a DVD player. The breakfast items provided supplied two days’ breakfast, and we had a very enjoyable stay.

No. Remember this is Far North Queensland and you will encounter the occasional insect or spider. There were leeches but you only meet them if you go walking along some of the tracks. Really nothing to worry about and worth it to enjoy this idyllic part of Queensland.
September in Far North Queensland typically has warm balmy days with lots of sunshine. It is our dry season. On the Atherton Tablelands temperatures are an average of 5 degrees cooler than along the coast and there is much less humidity, making it an ideal getaway!
Only marginally better, I believe. Rainfall in the wet season is remarkably variable, and you just have to take your chances.
Hello, There is a difference of between 4 and 6 degrees in temperature between Cairns and the tablelands. we are almost 8oo metres higher . during our wet season we can get up to two metres of rain for the season, so it is very wet. There is a difference in humidity levels, but it can still be humid up here, just not as bad as down on the coast!
