Detailed Reviews
We had an excellent day yesterday(5) of us on the former. I cannot speak highly enough of Melissa and her professionalism. She emailed all the information and even a map. She also refunded a fare when one of our party had to cancel at the last moment, through being involved in an accident. Warren( who skippered the boat) was enthusiastic and gave us interesting history of the area, some of which we didn’t know. The 2/course lunch at Cafe Malanda was delicious an exceptional value and added to the whole trip. An excellent day out in Kuranda....highly recommended.

Found the Billabong when Cairns was completely booked out! It’s quite wriggly to get in and the phone coverage is weak. The hot showers were good but the facilities are really basic. We camped unpowered and there was limited flat land. Highlight was the awesome Wood Fired Pizza and Hour Hour drink prices on a Wednesday evening!! We had car trouble and the host was very kind to recommend a mechanic and allow us to stay on our site until 2pm whilst our car got fixed. We were so grateful.

Hosts absolutely lovely. Accommodating, helpful and kind. Grounds are set with areas pf green growth between sites. Amenities good and pool inviting. I hope to return as it is a great park with basic kitchen needs and best of all icecreams.

Very rude woman doing check ins, was really passive aggressive towards me and made my stay uncomfortable.
Cafe was closed so we didn’t have anything to eat that evening. If you don’t mind and are good at dealing with rude people then stay here and good luck

They deserve to go out of business. First impression is a structure loosely called the "cafe" which looks and feels virtually uninhabitable. With car parts and other rubbish around the property coupled with overgrown grass, much time and money needs to be spent bringing it up to some form of hospitality standard. The road in from Kuranda supposedly takes 5 minutes to drive. What a joke! Approximately 7 km on a narrow, windy, steep road. Yeah right!

Cairns is where the Reef meets the forrest and Billabong Kuranda Camp is a great way to enjoy the forrest part.
The food was great. Staff was excellent. The live band was fun.
You MUST TRY the military truck ride. Boomerang training and paintball are fun by themselves... but the military truck was an exciting surprise.

Decided on the Billabong when Cairns caravan parks were too pricey. The drive up the mountain was an experience in itself, then the drive into The Billabong went to another level.bitumen road got narrower and narrower, then two steep inclines tested the car and van. Once there, Steve at reception was helpful and talked us into the premium area where power water and wi fi were available. Amenities are rustic and unisex, there is a large camp kitchen, while the Billabong Bar and restaurant, appeared not to be in use. Other activities run here, quad bikes, 6 wheel drive army trucks and paintball. We stayed 4 nights and glad we did. It is also handy to Kuranda village. We enjoyed our stay and the entertainment provided by the wandering gang of guinea fowl and the over friendly kookaburra. P.S. there are turtles and fish in the billabong.

Although out of town a little it is great place to stay very quite and there is the wildlife. If you have the time just watch the Guinee fowl very amusing. Staff very helpful and friendly. Large camp spots. There are night tours run from to see the wildlife, looks and sounds terrific. Hear the squeals of delight ???????

I’ve lived in cairns over 25 years and I’d never heard of this place until today27/10/18. Four of us girls went up for lunch, although only a handful of people up there , the food was very very nice. Very friendly staff, even made sure we had the fan on us. A guy playing guitar with a fab selection of lay back tunes to while away a Sunday arvo with a couple of beers , wine. The billabong teaming with life, turtles, fish , frogs and a number of kingfishers and other birds. For such a massive setback during last big floods, this place is now my new go to place for myself and when I get visitors . Absolutely stunning location for any function, for which they cater to. Please don’t let this one unvisited. 10 out of 10 billabong.

We have stayed here several times this past year, and each time, the staff have been great, and be it camping or accomodation, both have been first class.
I suggest that the prior comment about bad staff, was more the person themselves having a bad day, rather than blaming others.
What most people fail to discover about this place is that is approc 180 acres of 'RAINFOREST' some of which has not been touched by humans, EVER! It is about letting nature co-exist with humans.
People come here to experience the peace, quiet, amazing wildlife, and the calming effect this beautiful area creates.
Yes the road in is narrow. Goes up & down, but by no means steep. Trucks & caravans travel here daily. Bad drivers are bad drives wherever they go!!
The whole area is designed to be 'quirky,' thought provoking, different every time one visits. It could become a sterile 'hospitality' boring venue, but that would take away the fact that one is in deep rainforest, where you are invited to relax & unwind and re-energise before rejoining whatever crazy world you are trying to escape.
So before you 'assume & judge,' come visit. Get to know the locals. Have a coffee at the 'cafe,' Not restaurant!! Open 8 - 11am. Join in the 'Pizza' night every Wed. Sometimes live music, other times, choose from a vinyl selection, and indulge when 'Happy Hour' begins.
I will continue to visit this amazing place, and learning more on each visit.
I hope you will join me, and not let the rambling of negative people stop you from experiencing for yourself, the beauty & tranquillity of this magical spot.
