I picked this B&B because of it's location and name, for the last night of our Far North Queensland holiday. We felt like we were in our own private rainforest. And the name brought back lots of memories of a pre-covid holiday in Tanzania. Breakfast supplies were plentiful and tailored for us. Only draw back was the surprising absence of dinner venue options in this area. But the local supermarket had ample supplies & our B&B had it's own kitchen so we felt like we were in our own private restaurant in the rainforest. As we were only 35 minutes from Cairns, we were able to visit the butterfly sanctuary in Kuranda before heading to Cairns and the airport.

This is a magical spot deep in the rainforest near the centre of Kuranda. Sue, Patrick and Fritz, the sulphur crested cockatoo, were so welcoming. The lodge is spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. The double bed is very comfortable and the breakfast supplied was excellent. We felt so welcome and loved being shown around the garden. Highly recommended. You won’t regret staying here.

Stayed for 2 nights in October in their beautiful spacious lodge. We had breakfast with Sue and Patrick on their veranda a lovely personal touch. They are such a lovely couple who share a passion for wildlife. The kookaburras would come and pitch along the veranda railing waiting to be fed. They had other rescue birds and a Pukeko called Pukki who decided to stay rather than go back to the wild and then there is Fritz the Cockatoo. Such a character and loves a cuddle. Afternoon tea (or beer for my husband) and special time with birds and chatting about all sorts of things including the old ex army land rover between my husband and Patrick. We definately enjoyed our stay and I can highly recommend this accommodation you won't be disappointed. Whilst we were there they had a Curlew that had been attacked by a dog with they were hoping to rehabilitate him/her but unfortunately it was not to be.

Easily the best accommodation we’ve had during five weeks in Australia. The lodge is furnished to a very high standard and includes lots of beautiful African art work and artifacts. Excellent breakfast, well equipped kitchen, bathroom and lounge. Lots of veranda space overlooking the rain forest.
Very good value. Spotlessly clean. The hosts, Patrick and Sue, could not have been more welcoming. The lodge is outside of town, but Patrick was happy to give us lifts in and bring us back (for a modest charge) in his vintage land rover. Nothing was too much trouble. They have a passion for wildlife and we really enjoyed joining them to interact with their birds in the early evening.
Highly recommend.

Going to Kuranda Ngorongoro Lodge is a real experience in the rainforest. The place is amazing, the lodge is wonderful and Patrick and Sue are great hosts, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast is really good and it is the opportunity to listen Patrick and Sue telling about their great stories. We met a lot of animals with all their name and their story. We felt like long-time friends there. We reallly recommend this place. Thanks Patrick and Sue.

Sue and Patrick are incredibly accommodating, kind, generous with their time, and just all around lovely people. I was traveling solo after a business trip to Australia and I wanted to return to Kuranda for a quick add-on visit. While staying at Ngorongoro, they went out of their way to make me feel welcome, introduce me to the birds in their care which they knew I had a passion for, and to do other things for me throughout my 2 night visit. And I couldn't help falling in love with Fritz (the pet Cockatoo they adopted) and all of his antics - together with Sue and Patrick's entertainment with him - we had such fun! I sincerely felt like I was staying with old friends, rather than strangers running a B&B. And their lodge/home accommodation is gorgeous. What a lovely, peaceful setting with a full kitchen, 2 rooms, and en-suite and a wrap-around porch to pass the time amidst the sounds of the rainforest. Very clean, full of books of the area and wildlife, helpful little posters of the local flora and fauna - everything I needed to explore the area. I sincerely hope I get to visit them again - I would feel sad thinking that I wouldn't have the chance for a return visit. Thanks Sue and Patrick!!!

Sue and Patrick are amazing hosts, very attentive and helpful with a lot of interesting stories to tell. The guesthouse is big and well-equipped with an amazing terrace. Breakfast was very good . It is a shame that we had only time to stay for one night

Hosts Patrick and Sue generous, helpful and friendly. The rain came down in torrents for 36 hours while we were there, taking out power for some time, but not spoiling our pleasure in this amazing place. Beautiful well appointed cottage accommodation , great breakfasts. Rainforest all around. Stars of the show were undoubtedly the birds, many rescued and awaiting reintroduction to the wild once broken wings and legs were mended. What a privilege to have a Victoria's Riflebird on my hand investigating my jewellery!

Having already visited Kuranda by train we decided to drive up to Kuranda to pay a second visit and stay overnight. Looking on Tripadvisor we came across Ngorongoro Lodge and decided to book. We are so glad that we chose this place. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. Sue and Patrick are delightful and attentive hosts. They are so passionate about the rainforest birds and are constantly looking after injured birds.Whilst we were having a tasty breakfast on the terrace, Sue brought out food for the birds and called them out of the forest. The kookaburras came and ate from the plate just yards from us, it was amazing. Patrick spent time showing us many photos of wild life that he and Sue had photographed on their travels through many different countries. We were very impressed by the beautiful cottage we stayed in, which is in the grounds of Sue and Patrick's property. We really wished we could have stayed longer and thoroughly recommend Ngorongoro Lodge as the place to stay while in Kuranda.

I'm tempted not to write this review because Ngorongoro Lodge is a secret, and best kept that way. Sue and Patrick are great hosts, friendly, attentive, informative and wonderful to chat about their interesting lives.

The lodge is a little outside Kuranda town, set amongst rainforest, with abundant birdlife, even wild pigs and bush turkeys that seems not to notice you're there. The accommodation is self catering style, and includes a wonderful breakfast. Wake to the noise of kookaburras and lorikeets.

There's a pool, lots of curious signs and symbols, and covert plastic snakes. Sue and Patrick's love of wildlife is evident e.g. they rescue and rehabilitate local birds.

And then there's Fritz........ a cocktoo that thinks he's human.
