Detailed Reviews
I travel a lot and this is one of the best places I've stayed anywhere, to the point I nearly didn't write this review for fear I couldn't book in when I want! For anyone wanting a real Australian experience in Central Queensland you really couldn't do much better.
The B&B is a lovely old Queenslander-style farmhouse, set in tropical/outbacky gardens and decorated in a quirky combination of traditional and ethnic pieces gathered on the owners travels.
The best thing about the B& B is the relaxed vibe and great people. Alison and Terry Ray are both quality, dyed in the wool country people who've lived in Emerald their whole lives and done lots of interesting things along the way (like, Alison is setting up an orphanage in Africa in her spare time - as you do!). They make everyone feel welcome, couldn't be nicer and have plenty of hilarious stories and insights about the area.
I've stayed there four times and each time there has been a different combination of interesting guests who often get together on one of the two big balconies to have cheese and wine (a freebie from Alison) before dinner and chat, sometimes for half an hour and sometimes for hours. They have everyone from film crews to farmers stay.
On the nights I had work to do I didn't feel weird about staying in my room, and it's quite secluded out in the guest wing.
Breakfast is out on the garden deck, enormous and homemade at whatever time you need. There are healthy and indulgent things on the menu, so of course most mornings I had the indulgent things!
The whole place is immaculate and comfortable, with some rooms in a wing away from the house and a few inside it. There's a guest sitting room with tea, coffee, a little fridge and a TV, and internet access in the rooms I think.
Emerald is 5 mins away and has a few restaurants, cafes and supermarkets, and though I was there for work i guess it would be a pretty good base to check out the area. It would be especially good if you were an overseas traveller, because you get such a good window into outback life and the people.
The only thing I didn't love was the heat (it was january), and you can't do much about that - though they do have aircon in the rooms, and the chilled sauvignon blanc definitely helps!

Terry and Alison will make you feel right at home. They are very friendly and accommodating. This B&B has some rooms with ensuites and some with separate bedrooms. The furnishings are exactly as you would expect for a country B&B. I travelled in winter and did find the house cold, although there were reverse cycle air conditioners in each room. The breakfast menu has something for everyone. It is located just over 2 km from the main part of town.

Why would you stay in a motel when you can stay at this friendly home stay - so close to town. A great big old Queenslander, full of character. You arrive to a friendly greeting from your hosts and shown the way to one of the clean, quiet rooms. Everything so homely, just like your aunty's house.
We were in town for business and this place made it feel like a holiday. A short taxi ride from town and it beats any motel.
