We had a great 3 days stay here. The facilities and pool were very clean, the owners were most pleasant and helpful. On one of the nights there was a guest muso and we were given free snacks while having a few drinks ( I was actually surprised at how reasonably priced the drinks were). Our site was very big, and clearly marked, so we weren't hemmed in by other campers. Loved our fire pit!
Reading a previous review (we were there at the same time) they said there were broken toilets and showers but this wasn't the case as due to covid restrictions the middle shower and toilet had to be closed. Definitely recommend a stay here.

To celebrate a friend’s birthday and to support local businesses after Covid-19 lockdown we decided to spend a weekend in Chillagoe. I left a message on their website on Friday evening followed up by several phone messages which weren’t replied to and just about gave up, when finally, on Tuesday morning a confirmation email arrived. I would have thought that the prospect of a booking after such a long close down would have generated a quicker response.
The unit was very nice and comfortable in a relaxing environment. Unfortunately I was not impressed that in a double room we had only one face washer and a half full previously opened shower gel single portion tube. Considering their standard overnight price i expected standard supply.
However we did have an enjoyable stay despite the fact that the observatory being closed. A fact not mentioned on their website at the time.

Did not know what to expect but will be back....room was great and the camping facilities available are spot on.
Great pool, owners have firewood available and will drop off at your campsite at what I call a small price

My vehicle broke down just outside of Chillagoe on the way to our stay at the Eco lodge. From arrival the owners/managers were unfriendly and did not want to let us use the wifi to try and get help for our vehicle. Even though we called to confirm internet was available. To be told its only for guests staying in cabins, also the fact that the male and female running the place were clearly talking about my situation to other guests yet didn't offer any assistance and to use their phone seemed an almost impossible task.
Waking up to dogs urinating over our gear. (their dogs that roam free).
The observatory wasn't open even though it was a strawberry full moon lunar eclipse, to that he didn't even know yet he runs an observatory. We found this really poor on their part especially charging $20 p/p when they do open it to not have any knowledge of a lunar eclipse is strange.
The directions given to surrounding historical sites were blaze and very unclear.
Rude, Unhelpful and were happy to sit and gossip with out of park friends rather then help the guests who pay for a service.

Not one appliance ion the camp kitchen works. No Kettle, No toaster, No microwave. Fridge doesnt work. The bbq's had no gas in the bottles and plates were filthy.

Dogs bark all night long so cant sleep well at all.

This is an honest genuine review of this property

Stayed two nights in a nice room. Really rude staff. Couldn't do the observatory tour because it was full. They should've recommended booking a tour when I booked the room two weeks beforehand. No rubbish bins anywhere. They said the council charges too much for waste removal, so all campers and travellers must take their rubbish with them when they leave or dump it at the hospital bin down the road. Bizarre and ridiculous. They have two nice fire pits but you must BYO firewood or pay $20 for a small pile that you can only organise through the day or you miss out. I won't be staying there again.

Local knowledge by owners, we felt there love and commitment to their property, and area. Right from pick up by bus (we were in a tour group) we felt the passion, imparted in a relaxed, friendly, informative way.
Who knew so much to see and learn about.
Nothing was too much trouble. Dinner and breakfast low key, but oh so fresh. Even fresh squeezed oranges from there own tree....yum...
Lodges modern, tasteful rustic elements, clean, quiet, Hot showers.
Landscaping, tropical with generous use of local, plants, stone, and local heritage pieces.
Impressive labour of love over 18 years.

We stayed there in early April before the easter rush, and we had a really amazing time. The park was fairly quiet and the restaurant was closed, but we knew about that in advance and we were fine with our own cooking. We were 2 families and we had really spacious trailer sites. My buddy took his dog, and we had enough space to not even need to use his lead. The grounds are well maintained, and my kids had a wonderful time. The owners put a movie on for them 2/3 nights we were there even though they were the only children there. This was brilliant for us as it gave adults some time to chill. The location is a few minutes drive from the general store and the Chillagoe Caves (do the Arch cave - it was so amazing!!). I used the camp kitchen and it have everything we needed (mainly a microwave, toaster and burners). The pool is small, but it was also very clean which is all we cared about. The toilets and showers were clean when we arrived and they looked new. Overall, this was a really great stay, and we would definitely come back and recommend it to others.

This hotel was clean, facilities were well maintained, however, not enough amenities in the room such as mugs or milk and the beds were very uncomfortable. Also, the lady who checked us in was very abrupt and not very welcoming, felt like we had disturbed her afternoon.
Hotel felt over priced for what we got.

Place is a bit run down but you get what you pay for. Observatory doesn’t operated, bush shower don’t work and only 2 toilets & 2 toilets operating while full capacity, camp kitchen is filthy, no hot water to wash up, taps are broken, BBQ are rusty, appliances do not work plus pool is full of leaves

We checked in and the aggressive manager told us to go anywhere down the back apart from a certain area that she crossed on the map. So we found a shady spot and set up for our 3 night stay. On our last night at 5.10pm she came over to us and told us we had to pack up and move camp as other people had booked that spot and we were in the wrong spot from the start. We were in the middle of cooking dinner for ourselves & 5 kids and had already had a couple of beers. After a heat argument with the manager we were accused of not listening and told to pack up immediately and move. I said that we had already been here 2 nights so if we were in the wrong spot why didn’t she tell us early. Her comment was “I don’t get time to walk around the park to check who is here or if they in the correct place”. So how do you know who is here? She also swore in front of the children blaming this f**ken COVID thing. So instead of packing up the camp (1 1/2hr) process and move to another site to unpack and then wake up in the morning to just pack up again and go home we decided to pack up and head home at 6.45 pm and drive the 3hrs home, hungry kids and all.

When leaving I approached this delightful manger to ask for a refund for the night, which was $70. All I got was “it was your mistake, you are not getting a credit. I have owned this place for 16yrs and never had any issues with anyone, your the first.”

I wish we had research more as we found lots of reviews about this park and there is so many unhappy visitors.

We were in Chillagoe to support the locals by buying food, take away, fuel and tours. People like this ruin it for the rest of the lovely people we came across while there. We will not be back.

To start with the positives, the location is really lovely. It’s quiet, the pool was great for the kids, and the fire pits were great. Wood was supplied and was a great way to spend our only night there..watching the stars and enjoying the warmth of a fire. The cat, ‘Puss’, was very friendly and great with the kids. The grounds were well maintained.

But…

I definitely am someone who doesn’t like to complain. I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt if it’s just one or two problems that are fixed without issue.

The room appeared clean, however my daughter pulled back her Doona and there was dirt in the bed, a bug on the sheets, and stains on the sheet. This, for our family, was the first issue. I went to reception to get a change of sheets, and he came and made the bed with new sheets, letting us know that a previous customer had stayed, broke the queen bed, and then ‘must’ have slept in the single bed and remade it. However, the pillow case wasn’t changed and I only realised that much later. So I gave her a pillow off of the queen bed so she didn’t have to sleep on the possibly dirty pillow.

Our friends who were in the cabin next to us, were lacking soap and shampoo, and their toilet was extremely dirty.

When making dinner that evening (the restaurant is closed for a while), my friends were cooking some rice and pasta on their burner on an outside table. Not realising or remembering that were we friends, the managers were not saying nice things about them cooking there within earshot of our family, which I found very unprofessional. They were told to use the camp kitchen, which we didn’t know existed and were not told about upon checkin.

We went to the camp kitchen, but it was extremely dirty. The facilities were broken and dirty, there were no tea towels, the sinks were seemingly not plumbed in, so when you washed dishes and emptied the water, the dish water went all over the floor. There was also water leaking out of the kettle, which I thought was quite dangerous. All the crockery was covered in dirt, and there was no cutlery or dishcloths.

Later on that evening, I pulled back the doona to get the queen bed ready, and noticed there was a hole in the sheets under the pillow, and the pillowcase had lots of orange stains on them. Not knowing if the pillowcase was dirty or just stained, and having no spare pillow, I wrapped the pillow in a towel to sleep on.

The next morning when making a coffee, there was no milk, so had to end up driving to find a coffee. First world issues, but if you are going to provide a sachet of coffee and sugar, I would have thought at least some UHT milk also?

Unfortunately these things did not leave us feeling like we would ever go back. They have a great location with so much potential. Just more care needs to be taken in keeping things clean and happy and professional.

Hello Heather, The room where I stayed (named Parrot) has an advertised price of $135 per double. The accommodation is pet friendly although pets are not allowed in the accommodation itself. With your wanting the price from tomorrow until Sunday, I'm sorry I haven't replied before but I've only received notification of your question. I strongly suggest you contact the property directly to see if they still have vacancies. If you have read my review, this was one of the properties which I found warm, friendly and extremely comfortable on my trip to the nearby country towns last year. I hope if you go you enjoy the stay as much as I did. caran275
