In addition to our original 15 fully-furnished one and two bedroom apartments, we have added some equally unique one-bedroom rooms/mini-suites and small apartments over at The Annex. Open to those aged 18 or above, all our rooms and apartments are unique in layout and size, with polished timber floors, high ceilings and a homely heritage feel. The property is ideal for those looking for a higher standard of accommodation with a bit of uniqueness and history thrown in. Single-night stays are no problem at Kernow (although we'd love you to stay longer!), and we can provide a complimentary in-room simple continental breakfast for all guests. Come and relax with us whether travelling for business or leisure. We also have a golf driving range, a very well-equipped gym with brand new exercise equipment, a full-size snooker table and table-tennis table, and have given the original tennis court a spruce-up. Tennis rackets and balls, and a few golf clubs are available for guests to use free of charge.

Our second stay here first was 3 years ago and it’s just as impressive. Kernow was the old Mosman Mental Hospital Charter Towers closed 20 years ago but don’t worry you are not in the original patient rooms.
Some of the blocks have been converted into 1 & 2 bedroom apartments to a very high standard. Our accommodation had lounge, dining room, bedroom, en-suite kitchen with laundry, overlooking the pool area. These apartments are spotlessly clean in all our travels this ranks as highly cleaned as we have ever found.
Each apartment is well equipped, full kitchen all you utensils should you wish to cook in your apartment, two televisions with Netflix included.
We overlooked the pool another very tasteful area that has a bbq and is stocked with beer and soft drinks which are complimentary. Breakfast is also included in your tariff, cereal, eggs, yogurt, bread put into you room each day
The gym is a work in progress that we used everyday, it is not in its proper home yet but all the equipment is there you could require In a temporary location however it is fully functional and useable.
Some of the old buildings are still in their original condition from when it closed, this was fascinating going through the old buildings, the kitchen, dinning room, and the cells/rooms for patients.
Kernow has a grand vision and we could see so much potential there, just about to open are 10 beautifully designed motel style rooms, along with a restaurant.
We look forward to visiting it again in the future to see the latest developments, this place is well worth staying at and good value for money compared to the grotty motels in town.

If you are coming to Charters Towers for a night or a week, I could not recommend a better place to stay. The apartment was excellent, clean, extremely well appointed, consisting of main bedroom with ensuite, large lounge room with comfortable couches and seating, then to top it up a full kitchen, with oven, microwave and all the cooking equipment you would require. There is also a clothes washer and dryer. Outside there is a great swimming pool, with a bar b que area and bar area.
Again a great place to stay.
We have traveled extensively and this was one of the best accommodations we have come across.
Directions were concise and a light breakfast was left for us.

We spent the best 2 nights of our trip at Kernow and wished we could have stayed longer. We chose Kernow based on other reviews and they were so right. Vanessa, our host, was friendly and knowledgeable and not at all intrusive.

Each "unit" is an apartment. We stayed in No. 3 which had an open plan lounge, dining & kitchen area; a separate ensuite bedroom with a king size bed, a study and a laundry with washing machine, dryer and another toilet. There were TVs in the lounge, bedroom and study - if you're that way inclined. The apartment is beautifully designed and finished with a very relaxed feel and high ceilings to give an air of spaciousness. It's also very quiet with no passing traffic noise.

A very generous breakfast, with lots of choices, was provided for each morning of our stay. The property is very large and has walking tracks where you might see kangaroos though we didn't have time to check that out. There's also a lovely pool and BBQ area. Our unit had it's own veranda with both comfortable chairs for relaxing in and a table and chairs for meals. Breakfast in the sun was lovely.

This is definitely the place to stay in Charters Towers and we found it was a good idea to phone to make our booking. Finally, if you enter "Kernow, Charters Towers" into Google Maps, you'll have no hassles getting there.

This is by far the nicest property we stayed at on our North Queensland road trip.My mother and I stayed here for one night in a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment that was the size of a house. We were warmly welcomed by the Owner who showed us to the apartment and gave us a rundown of everything. The complimentary welcome beer by the pool was a nice gesture. The fully equipped kitchen was handy for preparing dinner and the complimentary continental breakfast the next morning. There was also a fully equipped laundry and third toilet. The beds were really big and very comfortable too. We also had a lovely stroll around the grounds in the morning. We had a very enjoyable stay and wish we had stayed another night.

Charters Towers does not offer many quality accommodation options. After unsatisfactory experiences elsewhere, we found the Kernow. A pleasant surprise.
The venue has a past as some form of institution (maybe a boarding school) but the owners/managers have made a greta job of disguising this and creating a comfortable accommodation solution.
We had a 2 bedroom suite with all the required luxuries. The bathroom was particulalry appealing.
The owner/manager was very helpful in ensuring we found the venue (slightly off the main road) and in settling us into our rooms.
The kitchen and continental breakfast were remarkably good quality and range.

We stayed in a studio room on a short break and were extremely happy with the room and whole facility. The room is totally reburnished to modern standards and includes TV, mini fridge, split, reverse cycle air con and jug. The bathroom is small but prefect for two, a big plus is that water pressure is good and hot water comes online quickly.

The room has a large sofa for reading or relaxing and the outside deck has two chairs and a small table for snacks and dinks to watch the sunset or just enjoy the outdoors.

Storage space is limited and there are no cooking facilities or micro-wave but the room is suppled with tea, coffee and sugar with a tiny carton of milk, bring your own supply if you like lots of hot drinks. The ground coffee is delicious.

There is a very comfortable pool area with bbq and drinks fridge and chairs and tables, no glass is allowed inside the area so plastic cups are advised.

A big plus for us, we are in our 60's, was the fact that children under 18 are not catered for which makes the whole complex very peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend.

A cross between a ‘Relais ‘ in Europe and converted large English country house Hotel in England , this place surprised . Fully equipped and tastefully furnished apartment down to the perfect arrangement of mugs in kitchen area cupboards was just what we needed after a long drive. Swimming pool and cattle available to hug and a good walk beating the bounds were added attractions.

This was a welcome haven, masterfully repurposed building characterised by high ceilings, wide hallways, beautiful interior decor, generous spaces. Hosts Les and Vanessa have created a very special destination in peaceful location. Particularly enjoyed visiting the small group of Brahman cattle a short walk from the apartment.

An amazing overnight stay. Road tripping with a friend headed up north.
Kernow Charters Towers is absolutely gorgeous.

I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, the finishing were so tasteful and the space was absolutely huge. I loved the black and white tiled bathrooms which made me think of Europe, even the little tables and chairs facing the pool made me think of the Mediterranean. Vanessa greeted us at the gate and showed us to the apartment, thank you Vanessa even though we only stayed one night it was 10 out of 10 experience. I can’t wait to stay there again.

You need more than one night here. The welcoming at the gate from your host and welcome drinks around the pool are just the beginning. Les, and his gang of friendly helpers have put a lot of time into the details and luxuries of this fantastic place.
The rooms are tastefully decorated, each with their own ensuite and little details thought of like umbrellas in a stand for your use in rainy weather and every kitchen is filled with all you need plus more. There’s even an extra powder room off the living area for guests to use rather than your ensuite. You could happily live here, with its laundry and spacious living areas. We stayed in the executive suite and it was absolutely stunning.

Room Tip: Have stayed in rooms 2 and 14 now, both excellent! Room 14 even had a lemon tree in its yard.
