Great little motel. Staff are wonderfully accommodating and really bring such a relaxed and fun vibe. We had a family room by the pool which was an amazing find for a motel. Grassy area for the kids to run around on and make new friends.
The Saturday disco with laser lights, smoke machine and disco ball was an unexpected surprise. All wrapped up nice and early though for a good night sleep. Rooms by the pool are well set back from the Highway so minimal noise

What an amazing hotel! The staff were super friendly and accommodating from the first call to book a room, at check in and right through our stay.
The rooms were clean and had everything we needed, plenty of pillows!
And we had a pet friendly room so we’re able to take our little dog and have him in our room!
There was a bistro on site and we had a delicious pizza and dessert as well as more than one beverage :) We also got supplies from the Bottle-O on check-in!
The pool looked very inviting but we didn’t get a chance to try it out.
Faultless experience, we will be back!

Well situated just across the road from the beach. The rooms were Basic but clean with excellent parking. Big problem was the breakfast table chairs were stupidly to high at least 150mm cutting off, also only one bedside table and only one arm chair but there was space for extra! Dave who ran the place was very good and had a restaurant and a bottle shop adjoining. I must say the meals were excellent and competitively priced. Each room had a table and 2 chairs on a tiled area out side the room the tiles looked as though they hadn’t been cleaned for a while with obvious stains like coffee on them.

I chose this motel for a night stop over as the photos showed the establishment to be in better condition than some others online. The exterior of the motel looks tidy but this was where it ended. If I could give 0 stars I honestly would.

The interior was likely renovated quite some time ago and is due for another. Walls were extremely mouldy and this is from someone who grew up in a very wet place. Shower curtain was mouldy and the bottom too long and likely never dried. Bathroom window flyscreen was caked with dirt. The nice green wall in the photo did not look like this. It had worn patches and patches that also appeared mouldy. We attempted to sit on the stools at the table to eat some dinner but there was no padding on the chairs so your bum sagged below your thighs and was extremely uncomfortable. See photo of an empty kettle sitting on the chair for reference. The bedding consisted of one fitted sheet and a flat sheet. There was a blanket in the cupboard, but after seeing the cleanliness of the room, we chose not to use it. The motel did not appear to be fully booked, however they chose to locate patrons all together. The walls are thin, likely not core filled, and the people next door dragged their bar stools around until late into the night and made who knows how many trips to their car before leaving on sunrise in the morning. Very inconsiderate people, which I understand management cannot control, however I don’t understand locating patrons next door to each other when there are ample rooms vacant.

There was nice hot water and the shower had good pressure. The location seemed quite safe. I’d recommend viewing my photos and making your own decision on the current state of the property from recent photos before booking.

Not at all clean. I know it's an older style motel but seriously, having been a room attendant myself, this place was not clean. Disgusting shower curtain - waaay too long - and soppy wet and dragging in the shower staff. Dirt in corner. Doubt very much any professional laundry washes that sheets. I wrote on the dirt on the mirror 'Clean me'. Actually dirt and dust in all corners of the room. You have to get from the bottle shop and they seemed to be annoyed I did not know that. Well, no. I would avoid it.

We booked this motel because we had read good reviews about the place and knew it was dog friendly. On arrival, the manager did not know which room was ours and had to ask the cleaner which room was ready. We were given the key and I asked about filling out any paperwork, and was told they would sort it out later. Never happened, so no Covid 19 tracking, which I thought was mandatory.
The room was as expected for a per friendly motel, however the TV had no reception. When we informed management, their reply was "its Cardwell, we are remote ". We had stayed at 2 other motels in Cardwell previously and no problems with reception.
Tried to go to the bar for a drink and book a table at the restaurant for dinner to be denied entry, as they are only catering for the Road Workers staying there. We were not informed of that when we booked. Finally, went to have showers and no hot water. We didn't bother mentioning this to management as it was already evident that overnight guests aren't a priority. For the price of $135 a night for a basic room, this place really needs improvement.

Response from Tropicoast Team, Sales at Cardwell at the Beach

A unhappy guest always tries to find as much as they can to complain to make a point . We will do our best to address your issues . 1. The manager did not know your room as you had a pet and because we were booked fully your pet friendly room may not have been free at the time. 2. No paperwork is required in the hotel as your details are on file recording date name time and contact number. 3 The Restaurant was booked out to a construction company ,we were unable to cater for guests as we are limited due to covid but there were many eateries within the area. We do not inform guests when they book re the restaurant status I am sorry. 3. When we are full to capacity the hot water runs out but it is gas and quickly reheats .It does not cope when everone showers within same times. 4. Televisions in Cardwell are satelite reception and sometimes reception fails when cloud covers .Normally like the other motels you stayed at in Cardwell all our 40 tvs work fine but We will re address this issue to see again if this can be improved upon bad weather. 5. Your fee includes a $25 pet fee to pay staff extra to spend extra time sanitizing the room. We will strive for a 5 star Service as you expect but booking a 3 star venue???? Hope to see you again!

This hotel doesn't make much of an impression visually when you arrive, however for the price, the rooms are fine. Beds were good and sheets good quality - air con worked and it was quiet at night. However, the TV's don't work (the signal is interfered with by electrical appliances) - the cleaner advised us that it happens with all the TVs in every room.

One of the most uncomfortable stays I have ever had. Upon opening the door to room 25 I was imediately hit by a smell, like something had died. I tracked this as far as the bathroom which was filthy. The unbearable stench was coming from the hand basins overflow, which probably has not been clean since installation. The toilet doesnt flush properly, the walls have patches of mould which have been half cleaned, the water pressure is non existant and the grout work is the most disgustingly filthy I have ever witnessed. Especially in the shower.
The beds were harder than the floor and the sheets were barely clean. The blanket on the bed is far too small and must be 20 years old. I Received an email from the management asking about my experience, and when they read my reply the manager rang me to start mouthing off....

Okay we have stayed for a 2 night stay. The motel unit ticks all the boxes. It's neat and tidy, overlooking the pool. No question there. I might sound picky, however we dined at the in house Thai/ Western restaurant.
The level of service and their inability to work as a team left be me bemused. The man charged with being the face of the property promptly blamed the staff level's on it's inability to read the order correctly. Two of the adults received our main courses only to find the third not only the wrong main but late too boot. It was an easy fix. The face of the property was not prepared to venture out from behind the Bar and question how everything was. There were 3 in the kitchen plus bar. Will I venture back tomorrow night. Afraid not.

Great, friendly staff at the motel and restaurant. Best Thai food I've ever had at Yasi Bar & Grill and good value too. They also gave us samples of some local beer and we enjoyed the opportunity. We will be back.
