Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The restaurant was a bit expensive but a good meal, caravan sites were very dry grass and dusty roads in comparison to the front entrance which was lush green grass,to suck you in I guess. Dated amenities but clean ,good wifi, lots of yapping dogs which the manager doesn't seem to control. Expensive in comparison to other parks

The motel had everything as described. The room was clean and spacious. Comfortable pillow top mattress, New flat screen TV. The view was lovely. The bathroom was dated, however this was budget accommodation and so it met expectations. We spent three weeks on the road travelling from Brisbane to Port Douglas and return and this was the only accommodation out of all of them that was as per the description with everything working. The irony was that this was one of the more lower budget places than anywhere else we stayed yet we had the best experience!

Neat clean and excellent location opposite the beach and you have a veiw of hinchenbrook island. Excellent restaurant and bar on premises. The location has everything you can do as much as you want or in our case returning from Cape York just taking it easy and doing as little az possible. The prices are very reasonable and facilities laundry pool just be mindful of crocodiles signs up as well

We were so looking forward to staying in this park. We had specifically booked a slab site at the beginning of April and were told there are more slabs than grass. When we got there they had put us on a grass site. When we enquired if we could move we were told the park was fully booked. We had to go and buy a cheap floor mat. Two days later 6 slab sites were still empty in front of us so we went to enquire why we couldn’t have moved. We were told our van was too big (18ft) however there were 2 vans a lot bigger than us including a huge motorhome on the sites. When we asked how come bigger vans than ours were on there we were told if we are unhappy we could get a refund (not sure whether it would have been a credit or whether it was for 1 night only) if we packed up now and left. This was on our last day at approx 12pm in the pouring rain had it been day 1 we would have done it for sure. Our neighbours in the Park also just couldn’t understand why the Management did what they did it just didn’t make sense. We are sadly giving up caravanning through ill health but we had intended to return to use the cabins in the future – not now and our friends in 3 vans who are travelling now and were considering coming to this park will be giving the Park a miss. Great disappointment but luckily the only van park in 3 months that has been like that in fact the worse service we have ever had.

The weather was disappointing but the park was not. I had a nice grassy spot. It was well away from the highway so nice and quiet. The pool looked inviting but I am not a fan of swimming in the rain so I passed. The amenities were clean and well maintained. There is a pub and a restaurant adjacent. I did not use either. The receptionist was lovely and very helpful.

Overcharged then refused a refund of $55. Can only give a credit. Not much point in that as I said would not be coming back again. Was told it is my bad luck Very rude and un professional. Amenities was closed for renovations. Only one male and one female toilet in other block. Grounds unkempt, Have been coming with a group for 7 years, caravans and cabins, about 25 in group. NEVER Again !!!

We unfortunately booked and paid for 2 nights on a powered site.. We left after one night... The park describes itself as a lush tropical oasis with shady sites!!...a more adept description should be unkempt dusty field with no shade... The site offered was small, dusty with no shade... The amenities were disgusting and filthy...soap scump and hair in the shower areas... Not sure if the place is cleaned on a regular basis!! Won't mention the kitchen..the so called freezer barely kept water cool!! Definitely give this place a miss... G'Day Parks should cease their affiliation with this park..

Response from Sharon Cameron, General Manager at Cardwell Beachcomber Motel & Tourist Park
Responded 16 Oct 2021
Hi Caroline. I'm sorry to hear of your disspointing stay with us. Unfortunately it has been extremely dry here unlike other locations around the tropics. Coupled with the extremely busy season we've come off the back of & caravanners arriving ultra early we have found it challenging to say the least to be able to water, mow & maintain our grounds to the standard we'd like. I note the day of your arrival was a public holiday & we had over 300 people onsite during the long weekend. Our staff clean the amenities daily. We hope you enjoy the balance of your travels & perhaps give us a second chance in the future. Kind regards.

My wife and I stayed in Cardwell Beachcomber Motel & Tourist Park on a powered caravan site. In the past we have only used Cardwell as a place to have a break on the way through. This time decided to have a long stopover to check out the 'town'. The caravan sites are basic but comfortable, with most powered sites having a concrete slab. Reception was very welcoming and gave good directions to get to our site, warning us which road to take when we left to avoid a sharp turn. Some of the sites are small with not much room for parking. There are slab sites under trees which drop mangoes, but there is a warning sign so beware. The amenities were basic but quite adequate. Even though the caravan park backed onto the highway, the noise level was not a problem in the caravan sites. Not so sure about the apartment facing the highway! The caravan park is north of the shops, but it is an easy walk to get there. It takes about 20min at an easy pace to walk there. Warning: Cardwell is not a place to walk along the beach at high tide, crocodiles do frequent the area. It is save however to walk on the beach at low tide, although we did spot a croc in the water on one of our walks, not definite it was though as I did not go anywhere near the water's edge to confirm. Overall, we were happy with our stay at Cardwell Beachcomber Motel & Tourist Park and will be happy to stay there again if we ever pass through again.

On our trip to Cooktown we stopped here for a night in the Morel. Room was very clean, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities. Could sit on balcony and watch the sun set. Place was quiet at night.
