Detailed Reviews
Staff are fantastic, and very multi tasking and hard working yet take time to make guests feel welcome. setting is very peaceful, good facilities. Restaurant dinner is limited menu but it’s good value and lovely ambience.
Room was very comfortable ($300 per night) and services, but did smell a bit mildew. Recommend putting airco on dry setting helps.
Overall we had a nice experience.
It’s a bit tired and lacking in some maintenance around the pool, couple of broken windows in restaurant and with a bit of freshen up would be awesome. Room was nice though.
Would definitely stay again.

COVID had killed off much of Cape Tribulation when we arrived at this place, so it's hard to give an accurate assessment. Our welcome was good however and we were soon in our room/hut for our three-night stay. Inside was clean and spacious, there was a small fridge but the air con was not needed. There was no TV or wifi in the rooms. Wifi was available at an extra cost and only available at the restaurant. The curtains provided were a bit of a nuisance to actually close and get any privacy.
The outside of the room/hut was pretty dour and the decking and surrounds had been ruined by the obvious surrounding rain forest and humid climate.
The upside to the place was the restaurant, where the Chef obviously went out of his way to produce a varied menu in these COVID times.
I do not think the Lodge was worth the cost as it looked in a state of continued renovation. I also did take exception to the constant bombardment of emails and messages to my phone advertising the tours on offer from the lodge.
I wouldn't book the place again, although in normal times things may have seemed a little better.

My husband and I stayed here with our teen and tween daughters. When we first arrived we were rather taken aback by how basic it was. We booked a garden loft but it was full of cobwebs on the inside of our unit and the windowsills. I went to ask for a can of Raid/Mortein at the reception and they had no idea what I was asking for! An internal clean of the webs would not have been hard with a feather duster.
The furnishings were basic and the shower door was covered in mould...the whole bathroom needs a refurb. I felt like we were in a hostel and some of the other guests looked like the 'hostel type', smoking by the pool (which was full of leaves). The coffee mugs were filthy.
That said, the beds were comfortable and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. The rooms are serviced daily though we didn't have them come in for this. The location is good. It is certainly a rainforest experience and after a couple of days we got used to it. I bought bug spray from the Friendly Grocer.
I'd recommend eating at Cape Tribulation Beach House as their meals were excellent (we didn't eat at the Cassowary.) Turtle Rock cafe was also good.
As others have mentioned, the stairs to the loft are very steep and there are no curtains up there so zero privacy (the other loft rooms can see in).
There are also heaps of giant spiders around so beware if you are arachnophobic!

This “hotel” doesn’t meet the standards of a three star hotel, as rated on Google/Wotif, or as a self described “luxury stay” according to their website.
We stayed in a private cabin and upon entry, we were greeted with a musty smell that never left.
The only blanket had an awful wet dog smell, so bad that we couldn’t use it. Bed sheets were not changed daily, instead made up to just look presentable - one pillowcase had a stain on it which wasn’t changed at all during the stay and made us question where it came from. The walls, fan and bathroom were dirty and appeared mouldy. The entire cabin was dank and dark with a lack of power points.
The bathroom floor was covered in muddy footprints after the cleaners had been in on our second day, which was frankly disgusting and made us feel unclean even after showering.
That’s not to mention the bathroom shower was within minutes varying from boiling hot to blisteringly cold despite stable titration of the shower taps. Food in the attached restaurant was average despite the best intentions of the staff serving us. Average how you say? An entire barramundi fillet caked in pepper as the only seasoning, followed with overpriced beer that you can get for half the price across the river.
The path lights lining the long paths between the cabins and reception/restaurant didn’t work, leaving us in pitch darkness trying to make it to and from dinner at night through the rainforest. To be fair, reception staff cautioned us to have a torch to light our way in the dark…except they never offered us one to borrow.
There was no TV or wifi, initially advised to us as an “off grid” experience. This would be fine if the room was comfortable, but there was nothing to distract us from the depressing interiors of our cabin at night.
I understand maintaining accommodation in a remote location might be challenging and amenities might be more rustic, but this was beyond what we could tolerate. A hotel should make us feel welcome coming back after a long day hiking in the rainforest - but we were just so uncomfortable we wanted to stay away. On departure, the staff didn’t even ask how our stay was. The only saving grace was its location situated in a World Heritage Site.
Two stars, only because the room was inhabitable, baseline hospitality and is in a good location for exploring. But definitely not what it sells itself as - the beautiful pictures on the website are very misleading. Look at all the other similar reviews to this, not the five star reviews. Be warned.

Good: This was a fantastic, central (if you could call it that) location in Cape Tribulation to stay. The pool area was a wonderful oasis inside the Daintree to relax. All the staff we dealt with were relaxed but accommodating, helping us enjoy our time in this unique location.
Annoying: The Garden Loft rooms we stayed in were comfortable, though the loft area of the room didn’t have curtains so we were getting up with the sun. While on holidays with activities in the morning this was no issue, could imagine if you just wanted to sleep in it may be though. If we stayed again we’d go for the superior room that overlooked the pool that also had a TV and seemingly full curtains.
Tips: Make sure you lock in a dinner at the Cassowary Restaurant, the Australian Platter for two was fantastic. While no reflection of the Lodge, there are few eating options in Cape Trib so make sure you book ahead and plan accordingly for regular closures.

I must admit… i was a bit shocked when we entered our room. It was alot smaller then I anticipated. It was very tired and mould was present. I learnt quickly air con on and windows open the whole time….Once we got ourselves set up, it actually was not too bad (family of 5). I would have liked some cutlery, plates and a dustpan and brush. A lamp upstairs for the kids would also be good. We were in Room 28 which was good as we were close to everything but it lacked privacy and we needed to ensure blinds were shut all the time. The balconies are good. The shower hot and good strength. The pool area was excellent. You do need a torch to walk around at night. The breakfast lacked but dinner was pretty good. They are clearly struggling with staff due to COVID though so get in first! The grounds and boardwalks and location is perfect though. I liked it also got Telstra coverage. The cut piece of foam
Over our bed acting as a topper was cheap and tacky. I would stay here again but would spend a little more for the luxury rooms as not much happens after 8pm. I loved the little day bed although my youngest slept here as there was not enough room for the fold out. If you need washing done make sure you let them know early. I asked at 3pm and we were leaving at 9am the following day but they couldn’t get it done. So I have had to pack so many wet clothes which as I unpack have become mouldy as have my daughters Birkenstocks which I could not get dry due to the intense rain we had for our 2 day stay. It was very relaxing with the open windows and rainforest surrounding you.

The place is beautiful, and legitimately in the middle of the rainforest so a lot of the bad reviews I read are probably unwarranted, however I still would struggle to recommend this place.
There are zero cooking facilities in the grounds (bbq etc), and the restaurant is bit of a joke. Take away only, very limited menu and took forever to get anything. Coffee was about 6/10, not terrible however should be better.
The pool is also quite average. It has the potential to be great, however it was dirty (I mean rubbish dirty, like multiple bandaids). Pool was also very cold and was not comfortable to be in.
There was also a staff member/care taker off duty who was in one of the rooms right next to the pool each time we were there, sitting out the the front smoking and constantly coughing and spitting, with his door open and movies playing very loudly. Completely ruined the ambience of the pool.
The advertised movies for the loft room we were in was just a portable hard drive full of pirated movies.
A tree fell over the path missing us by about a second (hotel can’t really be blamed for this part though)
The room itself was quite comfortable, clean, and the bed was very comfortable (we had the luxury garden loft, which I believe is their only renovated one - the others looked very basic).
We ended up leaving after one night of our three nights booked (they refused to refund any of the booking - this part is included for info only and didn’t form a part of my 3/5 rating, as it is Covid so I understand why they wouldn’t refund)
Would recommended if your sole requirement is an absolutely amazing location and unmatched scenery, however avoid if you have children or if you want any semblance of hotel/resort facilities.

Ferntree has been caught in the perfect storm. They are trying to bring a once five star resort some way back to its glory but COVID has hit them just when they needed occupancy to fund the work.
We knew what we were getting from a room perspective but the rest was a bit of a mystery. Most websites have contradictory info as to what's offered. Two pools or one pool (booking.com)? There was two but now there's one and it was a beautiful pool but really cold. Breakfast wasn't available (booking.com) nor was lunch. It definitely isn't beachfront (booking.com) but the location is great. Beautiful grounds and gardens.
The Cassowary Restaurant was only open for dinner. We couldn't charge to our room but that was no big deal. The meals that we had there were huge and good.
We stayed in garden loft 25 and it was a great room - huge, freshly painted, close to reception and the restaurant/pool. Bed was super king and super hard. If we could recommend one change get rid of the old original bed frames and put in some standard king or queen beds.
Our room wasn't serviced daily. This wasn't explained on check in but again no big deal. Bed made and more milk provided on morning three (of four).
Staff were all really nice. They're working on rooms around the resort and they need it. Our deck needed to be replaced. It's going to take a lot of hard work to get the hard product back to where it was. Saying that, if we go back to Cape Trib we'd def stay again.

Im in two minds about this place. It has the potential to be stunning but seems to lack professional maintenance. All staff that i came across were obviously overseas travellers working, all are very friendly. It is in a beautiful setting, our loft room was clean and comfortable- the bathroom was clean and smelt clean. The bed was pretty good too.
The restaurant is so stunning at nighttime, but the food was very average. I ordered an eye fillet for $36- it wasnt an eye fillet when it came out- it was a very very overcooked scotch fillet.
The pool was green, and the worker that was attending to the pool explained that its hard to keep clean because of the trees around it, which is fair enough but a green pool is still a green pool. I do think this place needs a bit of TLC, but it is a beautiful place, i wish i could give it a better review. I would consider staying again.

Absolutely recommend this place - we stayed for two nights and the bed was so big we kept losing each other, the pool so divine and clean we spent an entire day sitting around it and the on-site restaurant so delicious we ate there both nights (generous portions). All the staff we encountered were very friendly and approachable. All while being set amongst dense forest. Would one hundred percent stay here again and recommend. Thank you!
