An absolute gem at the end of a dirt (track) street, but still in close proximity to the beaches, board walks and other amenities. We found our unit at Mist to be very well appointed, very clean and with meticulous attention to detail. Adequate cooking facilities were provided including a BBQ on the large verandah. The setting was very quiet and peaceful as long as you don't mind the odd noisy bird call most mornings.
The only downside (if there is one) is the trek from the carpark to the unit may be a little daunting for some, but despite our "advancing" years presented no problems for us.
If intending to do your own cooking, pay heed to Lillian's advice and ensure you purchase all your food items before you cross the Daintree River as there is limited facilities only in Cape Tribulation. Food shopping at Mossman and Port Douglas is suggested. If cooking is not your thing, there is a number of good quality dining venues in the area.
Should we ever get the opportunity to travel to Cape Tribulation again, we would not hesitate to book the Mist again.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Mist. The 3 pavilions are fitted out to a very nice standard and we were very grateful for the little welcome hamper put out for us by the friendly and accommodating hosts, Lilian and Kim.

The location was very peaceful, surrounded by rainforest but with a view out to the nearby mountain. Binoculars and a guide book had been left out for spotting any wildlife from the balcony. We weren’t in prime-wildlife spotting season but still saw various birds, colourful blue butterflies and a few toads and could hear plenty of wildlife in the surrounding rainforest which was lovely whilst relaxing on the balcony day-bed with a book.

The accommodation is in an ideal location, a couple of minutes drive from the cafes and shop in the centre and a short drive to other highlights such as Emmagen Creek and Kulki Boardwalk. Would definitely recommend as a great relaxing stay for couples.

This property has everything you would want for a Cape Trib stay. Host Lilian provided detailed instructions on location as well as suggestions for where to eat and things to do. Situated in the rainforest but with easy access it offers superior accommodation. Private but very roomy with a large undercover deck and bbq. Sensational views of the verdant hills. Outstanding.

My partner and I had the absolute pleasure staying at Mist, Cape Tribulation. Our Trip was late arriving, however very warmly greeted by our hosts Mary, Paul and Toffee (🥰🐶). It was raining and we were quickly assisted (bags and groceries) with umbrellas to our Magnifico pavilion- number 3.

We were spoilt each and every day, Mary, Paul and Toffee made a point to check in with us each day to see we were okay and gave us some amazing tips on where to go, how to get there and where to eat. By the way, Thornton’s beach (CJs has the BEST fish and chips I have had). Emmagen Creek is Croc free, but watch out for the River trout…my partner claims they bite (🤣).
On the property itself, there is a beautiful waterhole, lovely pristine and private and gorgeous to cool off in after a day in the sun and humidity!

My absolute favorite about Mist though and something that I will always hold close to my heart….the sound of the rainforest coming to life in the evening, especially post downpour. It’s something that has to be experienced at least once in your life!

Thanks for making us feel right at home, Mary, Paul and Toffee. We cannot wait to come and stay with you again.

Karinda and Rue 💕🌸🌴🌿

Karinda and Rue Wow, thank you for such a wonderful review. To know that mist and the rainforest keeps delivering memories that last is really special. I agree with you that the rainforest choir is something to experience, and the sounds and quiet noise of the birds and frogs is proof of our incredible biodiveristy is thriving. It also seems Miss Toff has won employee of the month.... again. We look forward to you visiting again. Kindest Mary Paul and Toffee

As people that would normally travel to parts of SE Asia to experience the warmth and diversity of the tropics the new COVID world has changed much of where our holiday focus rests. That aside Mist at Cape Tribulation was a gold lining for a difficult period. At Mist you are truly immersed in the prehistoric Daintree rainforest. The accommodation is comfortable with only three private ‘cabins’, each with a balcony/barbecue area that allows you to soak up the atmosphere, listen to the birds and insects chirping high up in the canopy. Our hosts Mary and Paul were lovely and so welcoming. If you are contemplating some horse riding or a trip to the reef, speak with Mary who can organise this for you at a discounted rate. The fridge is full sized with a generous amount of provisions to get you started on your stay. You will need to buy perishable items for your stay at either the supermarkets in Mossman or Cairns on your way. A lovely freshwater waterhole, less than a minute walk from your accommodation allows you to relax in the cool ‘therapeutic’ waters. For this region it is boutique though be aware that you are some way from shops etc so plan ahead. Remember you are also off the grid so some of the luxuries many of us take for granted such as maintaining arctic conditions in your room is not realistic. The rooms are air conditioned but the emphasis across this part of the world is reducing your footprint and preserve what it is you have come to see. Highly recommend Mist as your base to explore a unique part of our (Australian) World Heritage backyard.

Absolutely amazing accomodation and service. With just the 3 high end cabins making it a perfect private retreat for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy beautiful nights accommodation in the middle of the Daintree rainforest.

The owners are a very hospitable and friendly who will go out of their way to make sure that you are completely comfortable and happy. The accommodation at self is a is made up of quality fixtures and fittings with the attention to detail making them a spectacular place to relax

Highly highly highly recommend to anyone visiting the Daintree.

Thank you guys! we hope to come back soon again

The pavilion is lovely however the access is difficult - the driveway is very narrow and dark and the path to the pavilion is extremely steep - while the property is appealing to older couples the access doesn't serve the property well. The owners are helpful and will carry baggage BUT the path is not for anyone with any mobility issues at all or poor fitness levels. The carpark is very tight for 3 vehicles. While I did have a dip in the forest river pool again the access isn't great and is extremely challenging and there is nothing to stand on in the pool... It was bracing and refreshing - the whole of Cape Tribulation is beautiful and well worth the trip.

Thank you for the feedback. We agree the driveway is dark and car park tight and will be addressing both of these points and will be expanding the size of the carpark by the end of the month. Unfortunately we are unable to do anything with the steepness of the path and we will continue to offer assistance with baggage. We do generally place those with mobility challenges in our pavilion adjacent the driveway and apologise for not offering this option. The rainforest river pool that is a short walk from the carpark is a work in progress for us and we only recently cleared the path to the pool. We are still in two minds whether to maintain the natural ambience of the pool or develop it to formal swimming hole. Tree kangaroos have been spotted at the pool and we currently are leaning to leave it in its natural state but certainly will reduce as many of the access challenges as we can. Kind regards, Lilian

When you are rating 85 and 1, you must be doing something right and it is clear that Paul, Mary and Toffee are clearly amongst the best hosts in Australia. From you arrival to your departure, you are greeted by smiles and made to feel at home. During out visit in November, the temperature was in the low 30s each day and mid 20s at night, but sitting in the loud silence of the balcony you would never have known. With cool breezes and being part of the rainforest, the time and warm temperatures just disappeared. If you aim is to sit back, relax, read a book and watch the world go by, then this escape is for you. Can also recommend heading out on the reef with Ocean Safari and venturing down the boardwalks and walking trails. Mary will advise you to collect supplies in Mossman, and while there are a couple of small businesses in town that value your support, it is good to prepare ahead especially for meat, vegetables and specialty items. Make use of the BBQ. The images are a good representation of what you will expect, and perhaps the only thing to note is that aside from the noises of the wildlife, the area is very quiet and the lovely pavilions are quite close to each other. It is also worth noting that if mobility proves a little difficult for you, there is a gravel path with an incline to travel from the car park to the pavilions. However Toffee will be there to offer some encouragement!

Head up to Cape Tribulation, book into MIst and enjoy some time of pure relaxation.

Beautiful location on Rainforest setting, accommodation very comfortable with absolutely everything provided, even binoculars for bird watching. Outdoor balcony with daybed.
Fully equipped kitchen with outdoor BBQ, complimentary cheese board, crackers and champagne on arrival, complimentary beer and water. Fridge stocked with condiments, homestyle jams, pod coffee machine.
Very high class. Only item lacking was hairdryer due to off grid electricity but we managed. Wifi worked perfectly.
Beautiful new bathroom, plenty of towels.
Plenty of PowerPoints.
There is a small natural water hole for dipping amongst the trees a short walk from the accommodation on this beautiful property.
The owner, Lilian, who greeted us was very welcoming, kind, and obliging.

Mist is such a beautiful place to stay. The pavilions are decorated with fine, unique touches.
The bed is very comfortable and kitchen stocked with necessities.
Upon arriving to Mist we were greated by Mary who had stocked the fridge with a bottle of champagne, some beer and cheese + pate + crackers as our welcome pack. It was such a lovely surprise and we wasted no time that afternoon in relaxing on the huge daybed on our deck with our treats, reading our books overlooking the amazing rainforest that surrounds Mist.
We spent the next morning in their private rockpool which you access by walking through thick forest.
We spent 7 nights at Mist. The bbq on the deck was well used and our kids enjoyed playing outside.
Paul and Mary are so lovely and were very gracious hosts.
Cape Tribulation is such a magical place and after a day of venturing around the many sights it was so nice to lay down on a comfortable bed and well maintaintained pavilion.
What a great place for a digital detox. We came away feeling thoroughly relaxed.
