Like so many that have gone before me, it is hard to find the words to describe the magic of this place and the awesome host; Margit. From the moment you walk through the door you feel so welcome and at home.

The lodge is spotless and all the rooms are beautiful, all wrapped in the amazing rainforest with the wonderful sounds & tranquility it readily gives. My only regret is I wasn’t there longer!

I fell in love with the Pademelon, a specie I knew nothing about prior to going & the joeys are just adorable. Likewise the Tree Kangaroos are very special - Margit was rehabilitating a traumatised young male but to see the interaction was quite something.

Margit is constantly working for & with the animals but still managed to be an attentive, excellent host who feeds you like a 5 star restaurant! She really is incredible!

I feel truly blessed to have had the privilege to stay in this wonderful place, it most certainly was a major highlight of my trip. Thank you Margit - the world needs more people like you!

A dream in the Atherton Tablelands. Margit's Lodge combines hospitality in the truest sense with a lodge in the middle of the rainforest. Plus a tree kangaroo, various wallabies, great birds and opossums. Margit is the personification of the hostess, generous, friendly and full of wonderful stories. Thank you Margit, it was wonderful.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at Lumholtz Lodge and I can’t say enough good things. While in Margit’s home, I felt relaxed and at home. The food is beautiful. The animals an absolute joy. A privilege to see the care Margit gives to the orphaned animals. Margit is always keen to help you find the experience you are looking for. Looking forward to returning soon.

We stayed for three nights at the Lumholtz Lodge at the end of our Australia trip. It was a highlight of our beautiful trip,. Meet Margit and her animals. The lodge made you feel at home. Margit takes care of people and animals with touching care. It is impressive how many animals Margit
provided with empathy coupled with special expertise day and night. Those 3 days were over way too fast. Thank you Margit for being around.

Firstly Margit is an incredibly special person who opens her house to guests and wildlife. She is also a wonderful cook, so meals are delicious.
Some experiences are forever, so meeting Green Ringtail, Brushtail Possums, Pademelon, Wallabies closeup is special. However Nelson the wild but regular visiting Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo is a mega personality to meet.
Margits knowledge of all things natural is also amazing as she is a 24 hour a day carer and rehabilitates wildlife. To top it off you're central to Curtain Fig, Mt Hypamie, Crater Lakes etc

A magical experience! Margit’s home in the enchanted wood is like nothing we could have even dreamed of. She is the loveliest person, mum to marsupials and the kindest host. We got to hold the Jackie the baby possum who climbed all over us and then fell asleep upside down in my hand, beautiful Beauie the baby wallaby, and sweet Linda the baby wallaroo. Bentley the tree kangaroo wasn’t so friendly, but he was gorgeous and hilarious. Rocky(?) the teenage pademelon hopped over to hang out with us and the way he tucks in his head to sleep is too cute for words. Lumhoktz Lodge was our favorite place we have stayed in our entire lives. Margit only hosts one party at a time (with multiple rooms if you need them), so book as early as you can.

What a wonderful experience with an exceptionally generous hostess, Margit. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and well appointed. The food is so plentiful, that now having come home, I think a 3 day fast is in order. Besides opening her home to us and preparing the wonderful meals Margit also generously gave of her time and shared her broad knowledge of the animals that call the Tablelands home. During our stay we interacted with a tree kangaroo, pademelons, different wallaby species, black footed rat, brush- tailed possum and several different birds. I recommend Lumholtz Lodge to anyone interested in wildlife.

Margit offers a wonderful experience and accommodation in a rainforest setting. She has a vast knowledge and expertise to share with guests, along with seeing a lot of wildlife, including if you are lucky a tree kangaroo, Nelson. We so much enjoyed our brief time with Margit, in very comfortable and clean accommodation. Her meals were wonderful. Thank you Margit - when we return to the Tablelands we'll be sure to see if we can stay with you again.

We spent two days at Margits Lodge in the Atherton Tablelands and were absolutely thrilled. Nowhere could we get SO close to animals - and the tree kangaroos shared the living room with us. Margit has many exciting stories to tell and she knows so much about her protegees. Also for children this is a very exciting place.

In the mornings we took a trip to the surrounding attractions of the Tablelands and in the evenings, Margit awaited us with her incredible hospitality and very delicious food. Then we were allowed to bottle-feed small kangaroos and enjoy the incredible nature that surrounds the lodge: As soon as it gets dark, numerous kangaroos and possums came to pick up their daily dinner in the garden ;-)

A MUST for every animal lover!!!
We hope that we can come back there someday.

Geoff my hubby & I stayed here for 3 nights. It was an unforgettable & magical
experience to stay at this unique lodge in the midst of beautiful rainforest
surrounded by native wildlife. We established a special bond with 2 gorgeous
Pademelon joeys Charlie & Snoopy. Each day they followed us around &
jumped up on our laps for a cuddle. I even got to feed them with milk one night,
it was an amazing & special experience!
We were also very lucky to meet a female Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo Kimberly & her
female Joey Holly. Seeing them come in from the forest, first in the trees & then
close up in the kitchen was wonderful. The interaction between Kimberly & Holly & the lodge host Margit was unbelievable. The mum would jump up on her shoulder & Holly
would go to sleep on Margit’s chest inside her shirt ( like the pouch). It was just amazing.
We even got to meet the young male Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo Nelson one morning.
We learnt so much from Margit about the Tree Kangaroo & other Australian
native animals & birds. Margit is also an excellent chef, we had dinner with her
for 3 nights. Each night the meal was different, it was delicious & cooked to perfection accompanied by good wine. You need to book ahead for her to cook for you each night & pay extra but it is worth every cent. Free parking on site & free Wifi with excellent reception. It was a privilege to be able to stay in Margit’s beautiful house & to share her unique relationship with all the wonderful animals. Margit has been caring for sick & orphaned wildlife for many years & she is surely the Jane Goodall of the Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo.
We will never forget Margit & this wonderful wildlife sanctuary & hope to return again
in the near future.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. As a host my main aim is to make guests feel the magic of the unique rain forest and its gorgeous animals. You write as if you were truly enchanted and even giving a bottle to a baby kangaroo was a true experience. Charlie and Snoopy are still inseparable and holly might have another joey in her pouch. We have every reason to believe that Nelson is the proud dad. I would very much love to welcome you again.
