My wife and I decided to spend two nights in the Daylesford / Hepburn area. We found this hotel online and decided to try it. I was disappointed with the lack of access to the reception of the hotel. Lugging suitcases up a steep flight of stairs was quite difficult. Additionally, there is no ‘on-site’ car parking meaning we had to leave the car on the street for the two nights. The room was spacious, reasonably well appointed and the bed comfortable. The window onto the internal courtyard had a broken latch which meant that the window could not be left open (see photo). We were able to overcome this by placing a cotton bud in the window latch, though shouldn’t have had to do this. The bathroom was also very tired with the hand basin having a significant crack in the porcelain (see photo) which must be a place to trap bacteria, much like a cracked cup or plate. The tap top indicating ‘Hot’ was missing which is dangerous (see photo). Much of the grout between the tiles in the shower recess was missing (see photo) which was distressing from a hygiene point of view. Despite these issues I have to say that all of the staff were quite wonderful. The building maintenance issues are not their issues.

We ate at the restaurant on our first night and the food was underwhelming. We ordered the chicken and sadly it was dry and consequently unpleasant to eat. I cook this cut of chicken (Supreme) quite often and I expect that a professional chef would be able to prepare, cook and serve it in a superior way to me, but that wasn’t the case.

In summary, we won’t return, sadly.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. We understand your concerns about the accessibility to reception (Please note we do have a ramp to avoid the stairs), parking, and the maintenance issues in your room. These are important points, and we will address them to improve our guest experience. We also apologise for the issues with the bathroom and the food at the restaurant. We’ll review these areas with the relevant teams to ensure better quality and attention to detail. While we regret that we couldn't provide the experience you were hoping for, we appreciate your kind words about our staff, and we’ll continue working to make improvements. We booked Hotel Bellinzona during a weekend up in Hepburn Springs/Daylesford. We ended up booking Bellinzona because most establishments had a two night minimum, but Hotel Bellinzona didn't. We were surprisingly upgraded, and enjoyed the unique room design/style. The pool and spa were fine, and the lobby had a bit of a buzz to it. Recommended if you are looking for a night away up in the Hepburn Springs area.

On a road trip to Canberra we decided to stay for 2 nights at the Hotel Bellinzona after reading about it. What a uniquely delightful hotel. Everything about the expensive fit-out is classy and tasteful. On entering the reception area, you feel like you are arriving into another era. Our upstairs room was spacious, airy and comfortable. A bonus was the sauna, as well as the spa and heated pool which we enjoyed after a day of exploring the mineral springs area.
Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely food and excellent coffee at the Virgin Kitchen.
Highly recommended!

Dark, dingy and cluttered. The decor is more resemblant of an S&M dungeon than a motel. More leather and black paint than I have ever seen in one place.

Hundreds of wierd black and white faux Picasso paintings on the walls. Overstimulating, but for what reason?
Some of the paintings are down right creepy. A few looked like a scene from David Firth’s ‘Salad Fingers’ (if you know, you know) perhaps channelling the ghost that allegedly dwells there?

The place is old, yes we all know that, but it doesn’t need to be all stale and stuffy, which it is. The smell and fumes from the restaurant fills the ‘loft’ such that it becomes uncomfortable. I had to open the window in the hall to let some fresh air in, but then someone came and shut it again!

The hotel name pays homage to the Swiss-Italian immigrant heritage of the building and town as a whole. But that is about it. Northing else about it is Swiss-Italian not the decor, not the meals, nothing.

The place is over cluttered with gaudy furniture. The foyer / bar is packed with oversized leather chairs that limit the space to walk and wheel your luggage.

There are no lifts/elevators. You need to carry your luggage up the narrow wooden stairs!

The pool is nice, but all of it is indoors and it is a bit stuffy. Would be nice if the doors or windows where opened up to let a nice fresh breeze in.

Staff were not overly friendly and were difficult to find at the best of times. One man (middle aged anglo gentleman) was friendly, but all the others were down right rude.

Street parking and parking lot across the road are awkward and the traffic zoom past you as you unload making it a bit dangerous.

Cant see what the hype is (if there is any?. Needs a freshen up already. Perhaps an overhaul. Perhaps opt for ‘light and airy’ instead of ‘dark and dingy’?

Gardens are nice. I will give it that.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. While we understand your feedback is based on personal taste, it’s important to note that the decor and atmosphere are carefully designed to create a specific ambiance, which may not suit everyone’s preferences. Many of our guests have enjoyed the renovations, finding the space unique and inviting, and we’re proud of the improvements made to the property. We appreciate your comments about the staff and parking, and we’ll continue to work on enhancing these areas. We respect your perspective, but it’s worth mentioning that many of our guests have had positive experiences, and we aim to provide a welcoming environment for all. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration. Thank you.

My partner and I booked one night here for a little getaway.
Before checking in I emailed reception to ask of the onsite restaurant was going to be open (Tuesday night) I was advised no. (Odd for School holidays)
I then asked what restaurants close by would they recommend, all except one recommended restaurant were closed until later in the week.
I arrived about half an hour prior to my partner, check in was fast, I advised my partner was on his way but his details were not taken. I was given incorrect directions to my room and ended up outside again...
When my partner arrived, he didn't have to give his name, I.D, nothing...
The property resembles a ski lodge, It's quite cute and the rooms are ok but the property is very inaccessible with quite a lot of stairs and the car park is opposite the hotel. Our room was spacious with a big comfy bed, I did though expect more from the bathroom, it was quite bleak. The only real issues I had with our room was our bedside tables were very dusty and I saw a few black hairs on the shower floor.. definitely not mine.
During most of the night we were kept awake by the sounds of the hot water system in the walls, running water and split system.
We heard housekeeping knocking on doors around 9am which was annoying considering check out is listed as 10am.
We got ready to leave and headed down to reception, all we got asked was "checking out?' No how was your stay etc.
Before driving home we did grab a takeaway coffee from The Virgin (onsite cafe) staff there were pleasant and the coffee was really nice.
Overall we wouldn't stay here again . It's simply not worth the price you pay.

We were on a conference package for work this time, but all agreed it would be a cool venue to come back with friends for a Murder Mystery night or couples retreat. All of the meals were notably great. Smoked trout, heirloom tomato salad, cajun potato wedges and lemon crusted chicken schnitzels were noteworthy. Coffee downstairs at Virgin Kitchen also had a great breakfast vibe. Cocktails were strong and mixed by hand. They have a respectable, albeit small wine list.

We stayed across the road in the secondary building/conference area and would note that the rooms were updated, but not a completely 5 star experience. Whilst the beds and linen were perfect, being an old building that hasn't completely been redone means you clock old style windows, lack of temperature control, creaky floors and a leaking tap. I can't comment on the main hotel area, but best you expect 'character' from rooms on this side of the road.

That said, we are already organising our return with friends in a few months.

This beautiful heritage hotel was established in 1903 but refurbished in 2019. It has a very luxe private club atmosphere. Rich dark wood stairways, plush carpet, leather armchairs, open fireplaces, abundant artwork, comfy romantic rooms and a relaxing bathhouse featuring warm pool, hot spa and sauna with glass windows overlooking gorgeous forest greenery. There is a cosy fireside lounge bar and an on-site restaurant. Car parking is free and there are numerous cafes nearby. Close to Hepburn Springs mineral spa but honestly the hotel bathhouse was so good we just used that extensively. The reception staff were helpful and friendly yet unobtrusive. Use the carpark across the road for easier access then the carpark at the rear. It’s a heritage hotel so yes there are stairs not elevators but the stairways are grand and add to the ambience. I would definitely stay there again for a special occasion. We stayed two nights midweek for my husband’s birthday and he loved it as did I.

I don't think it is just me that hates being charged (overcharged?!) for services and ammenities that are just not provided.
This hotel has the potential to be great with clean, sunlit rooms and lovely places to sit and relax but it misses the mark in so many instances. Little things like no bathrobes, ironing boards or guest information compendium also no towels at the pool (and no one to ask) through to larger matters like no restaurant, no room service, no room charge and, worst of all, no staff.
We walked in and out of this hotel over a four day period and barely saw anyone culminating with us checking ourselves out and leaving our key on the unattended front desk.
When I pay over $440 per night for a room I expect a little pampering which was the thinking behind our decision to stay at a large hotel. If this is you - Do Not Stay Here.
When I talked to management after our stay they were receptive to feedback and offered a number of excuses - new owners, covid, inability to get staff - which is all well and good but do not charge full price for half the service.

My wife and I were part of a small wedding party very recently. On arrival, the check in staff/Front desk were very kind and directed me to a disabled parking space. I have to say that our room was very pleasant. I have read other stories about room amenities but I think some people just expect too much. It had tea and coffee etc.
The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The main group about 12 had arrived the night before and we heard that the a manage had closed the bar early as someone was rude to the barman. Apparently the barman's English was not great and the group believed he merely understood someone. Whilst I wasn't there I know the group and would seriously doubt someone being rude at 9pm, however??
I was present however as we were heading to the reception venue by bus. The hotel had completely ruined the reception booking two weeks out from the wedding when the bride and groom could not get any help, e.g. No menu available,
no seating and no-one available to meet with them as they were told they had two bigger weddings ahead of them. What they didn't know was that the Bride is a major events manager herself, internationally. They changed the venue 9 days before the wedding and I believe that may have had a bearing on the attitude. By example as we were ready to board the coach, one of the men moved an armchair to make space for a group photo. Before the armchair had settled in it new position, a lady that I now know to be the owner came out and said "don't damage the carpets" Carpets for gods sake!
So to breakfast the next morning. As a regular international and interstate businessman, I stay in hotels about 5 months every year, I therefore know the systems well.
After queuing behind about 8 people for breakfast, I placed our orders and handed my room key. I was told I could not charge it to my room. I wasn't about to argue with a very young girl so up several flights of stairs to get a wallet. On my return the queue was even longer. In all we didn't get our breakfast for nearly 45 minutes to one hour after was first sat down What is that all about. My good friend owns a motel in Moama opposite the bowling club. With a room key you can charge anything in the club back to you room. I did hear someone mention that a different company lease the kitchen, so what? I think the in charge management need some lessons in running a hotel, fawlty towers is easy to run.

This beautiful looking hotel promised a lot but delivered little.
Our room was very small with dated bathroom and no soundproofing. It was however, dark when curtains were closed.
No safe for valuables in our room which is a necessity particularly when the room does not seem well secured. No coffee machine. Instant coffee satchels and tea bags were provided.
There was a kitchen near our room and the staff walked up and down loudly on the floors from early in the morning and we could hear them talking. Not conducive to a relaxing stay.
We chose a balcony room and soon realised that the balcony was shared along the length of the hotel with people walking along it day and night, talking loudly and in a few instances, sitting or standing outside our balcony doors smoking with the smoke coming into our room through the gaps in the doors.
The hotel has no room service and as it was hosting some type of conference during our stay, the bar staff were more interested in serving these people than their in house guests. We only required a couple of pre-dinner drinks before going out to eat.
The hotel has no restaurant at the moment, so guests need to be plan ahead to eat elsewhere while staying here.
Parking is across the main road and limited meaning that we had difficulty finding a spot because day function visitors parked there.
I was surprised to discover that my credit card was also fully charged for the stay a week prior to us arriving. Whilst I appreciate accommodation needing a holding credit card, I would have liked the option of paying via alternate card or method when we arrived/departed or at least been notified of this charge.
Overall, very disappointing and we would not recommend staying here when there are many other great places to stay in Hepburn and
Daylesford.
