Lovely quiet location, a well appointed and maintained country hotel. Our room was fine, but a slightly larger television would have been advantageous. Good wholesome English breakfast and very chatty host.

Chosen because of the many 4 & 5 star reviews, a lovely old country house in pleasant wooded surroundings. Unfortunately the experience did not live up to what we read in the reviews. We were given “Ratty’s” room which appeared to have been furnished and decorated around the time that Wind in the Willows was written. The bathroom was a bit of a surprise with a toilet which had not been flushed! An ancient 14” flat screen tv was perched on an elderly chest of drawers to complement the randomness of the decor. The bed linen and bedclothes were also of the 50’s or early 60’s era. The breakfast however was good. We stay in many country hotels in Ireland both North and South and have yet to come across one with such an unforgettable bedroom. This hotel needs the help of Alex Polizzi to drag it into the 21st century to make it worth anything like the amounts charged for a stay here.

Travelled with hubby up to Derbyshire on the motorbike for a weekend of sightseeing, this was a last minute booking and it is a hidden gem. Our room was comfy and clean, fully kitted out with everything we needed. Warm welcome from our host, a tray of tea on our arrival. Set menu for dinner with three choices of starters, main and desert. Sea bass was fabulous! Breakfast was delicious. If you’re looking for a peaceful location then this is it. We will visit again.
