We booked 4 nights at the Bulls head via Booking.com. It was a big mistake and I wouldn't advise anyone to do the same. The website said check in 4pm which seamed late so I enquired about an earlier one but was told no as the pub didn't open until 4 pm. Seemed strange for a pub but went along anyway. The website says on street parking but on arrival we saw almost all streets around the pub have double yellow lines and the only parking is on a rough piece of ground about 50 metres away, this is the only parking in the area so gets full with locals so you need to be early. The pub doors opened dead on 4 pm and we were met by a young girl who did the registration etc. We asked about the evening meal but we were told the bulls head would not be serving food. We were shown to room 2 looked ok at first so we unpacked. The room was a bit dated and the extra large bed appeared to be 2 singles locked together. The en suite was in one corner and very small with a corner shower cabinet hardly enough room to get showered. The main room door did not fit properly and was very hard to open and shut. The centre bracket of the curtain rail was loose and almost falling off. We were quite hungry and neither the Bulls head or the queens arms (sister pub )serving food my wife went to the bar to enquire about local places to eat and was told the Queens arms did do food even though the web site said it didn't in the evening. Off the the Queens head for food (about 100 metres down quite a steep hill ) which was nice enough but rather expensive then returned to the bulls head for the evening only to be told that last orders where 9.30 pm. This is normal we were told in both pubs. The pub is advertised as pet friendly but as you will see from the attached copy of the room instructions not so. So our expectations of a nice stay in a country pub/restaurant Turned out to be in a part time pub run almost entirely by young 20ish staff who run it however they want. Clearly we can't recommend staying at either of these pubs and find it strange that the owners allow it to be run in such an haphazard way.

Arrived to a friendly welcome, easy check in. Room 1 was spacious adequate for our overnight stay. Shower was small but sufficient for a quick freshen up. Tea and coffee, biscuits and bottled water available though one of the bottles had previously been opened. We ate in the restaurant which was tasty and plentiful, 7 dishes drinks and dessert for 2 £61.00 which we found not badly priced. Serve was very attentive. Beds were comfortable but not a brilliant night sleep been due to noises from rooms above which disturbed our dogs, unfortunately they hear everything so talking and walking above started them barking ! Breakfast was served at The Queens a few minutes walk away due to sickness. Again great service and plentiful great start to the day ! Overall a great stay, just wish our sleep was better, worth noting not great if you have protective pooches that bark at every bump and creak !😩

Walked in quite late for Sunday lunch, was accommodated, food was fabulous and service spot on, would definitely recommend and return. Food could not be faulted, had a choice of 3 roasts on and a further full menu to choose from! Sticky toffee pudding was to die for!

Great food with a different menu, so good to see. Spanish tapas style, fast service. Nice sitting outside although wouldn’t be if there was a lot of traffic but road was very quiet on Bank Holiday Monday. A great find we’ll be back. Also gave our dog some water!

Not many things finer than sitting in the sunshine overlooking the glorious Derbyshire countryside. We had the cod in the broth which looked snd tasted delicious and also the burata with beetroot…. sooooo good. Cote de Boeuf to share followed with a gorgeous bearnase sauce, chard and totally amazing triple cooked chips. This is a lovely pub/restaurant in the most wonderful countryside and we heartily recommend.
