Stayed one night with a friend at the start of walking the Limestone Way. Staff very friendly. Room was clean, warm and the beds comfy. Had a good and generous roast dinner that night. Breakfast very good No real complaints. Good all round pub and hotel.

Couldn't complain £10.95 for a lovely soup with warmed baguette and butter. Two options available; butternut squash and tomato or cauliflower and cheddar. We both went for the cauliflower and cheddar and it was very tasty. Followed by a lovely beef roast served with a large Yorkshire pudding, mash potatoes, roast potatoes, roast parsnips and a selection of vegetables. Serves... More

For a small village, Castleton has about five pubs and Ye Olde Nags Head is the best. Great place to sample ales (with a beer tray). They have gin tasting trays too. Classic pub food with tasty specials (venison stew was to die for).

Went here with friends. Staff very obliging when we asked about our dog being able to be in restaurant(mini dachshund) and although one had to go to bar to order drinks as service to table wasn't really how they do things, the food itself was really good. Three steaks cooked exactly as asked for, lovely home made chips, proper onion... More

A friend and I called in hoping for a light lunch while on a visit to the area. I can't remember ever having had such a poor meal. I had soup, supposedly leek and potato, but it was so tasteless that I joked to my friend that it tasted like "the inside of my mouth", ie it had no taste... More

My husband and I ate here twice during our three day stay in Castleton. On our first visit hubby had the bacon and black pudding stack from the specials board, which he deemed excellent. I had the salmon and prawn cocktail, which was also delicious. Portion sizes were generous for both starters and mains, for which hubs had the pie... More

Staying in a B&B, this was our second pub to try in the village. They only had one table left but it had very low seated chairs, meant you virtually had your cjin on the table. Had to ask for decent chairs, which they obliged without a problem. Meal (Rib eye steak & extras), as is the case in Derbyshire,... More

This was the third time that we have stayed here. And on previous reviews I have given it 4-5 stars Although the rooms are good I do think its looking a little tired and maybe needs a bit of a revamp. We had one of the four poster rooms with a spa bath. There were lights not working in the... More

This place is really good. Very clean and pleasant room. Still and sparkling bottled water, biscuits and small bottle of wine in room. Excellent cooked breakfast and all for £50 room rate - sleeps two. I haven't had B&B at that price for years so was a little apprehensive. (I've stayed here before and it was a bit grotty then).... We had a lovely lunch, with excellent food (Ham Terrine, Squid, 2 beautifully cooked steaks and the lasagne) efficient service and friendly surroundings. Only comment was there was no one who met us and showed us our table. Would go again and probably stay.
