My partner and I stayed for a short weekend break to go walking around the local area. The hotel was very comfortable and staff where very accommodating. We stayed in the on of the Suites so I can't talk for the Standard rooms but our room was very comfortable with a huge bed. The restaurant is also very spacious and...

What a fantastic place to stay! The staff couldn't do enough to help. the food was excellent, the room delightful and we were made to feel so welcome. A real bonus to find a dog friendly place with such high standards, we will most certainly be returning.

Christmas break with my hubby. The hotel rooms need refurbishment - I'm totally shocked it is rated as a 4 Star. Shabby rooms with heating that doesn't work, cold showers, kettle that won't turn itself off, poor service and a continental breakfast made up of burnt coffee, toast, jam and cereal.....no cheese, hams or yogurts. For £75.00 a night for...

I am lucky enough to stay at this hotel aprox once a month with work. The staff in this hotel are always welcoming and friendly. The rooms are lovely and the food is just amazing. I would recomend this hotel to everyone.

We recently held a surprise lunch for my mother's 90th Birthday. Twenty eight guests sat down to a lovely meal in the smaller function room which was a perfect size - timing ran like clockwork, good service and nothing was too much trouble. It's good to have somewhere in the valley that can cater for parties with such good professionalism...

Well placed for a stay in the Peak District, The Rising Sun is on the road between Hathersage and Castleton just below the dramatic Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs. It's a hotel in transition: money is being spent and thought and effort devoted to updating it and making it more comfortable. Our newly decorated room was well equipped, well heated (a...

We stayed at The Rising Sun for one night following a stressful house move and a dissappointing night in The Cotswolds. Our spirits were somewhat down when we arrived. Lauren was so cheery and helpful we immediately started to relax. Our room was spacious and incredibly comfortable, with stunning views across the garden towards Longhill. The hospitality shown from Jeremy,...

Booked a post birthday trip without the kids. Stayed for one night took a walk to Bamford station and hopped on and off at Edale and Hathersage for a walk and pint. Then back to the hotel for a meal in the restaurant. Old fashioned quaint hotel just off the main road, bar facilities and restaurant were great and staff...

We have just spent 3 nights here and have returned home refreshed and relaxed. It is true the outside is shabby but once inside the ambience and welcome is like that of a family home. Clean, comfortable and friendly. Hence my title!! It is definitely a place that is easy to relax in. We enjoyed the food and looked forward...

Although the hotel was certainly clean and breakfast service was good our stay was let down by a number of small factors that should not have arisen. The room for a couple had 3 sachets of coffee (perhaps we were meant to share one) Only 1 toilet roll was provided and when that was used I had to hunt down...
