Cycle touring in the area, arrived at Ashbourne needing somewhere to stay. Dropped into the pub and had a chat at the bar and was sorted with a room in a few minutes. Recently taken over about 8 weeks ago after being shut for a while I believe. The couple running the place were very accommodating ( even letting me...

Just been in this pub and thought...oh no!...as I worked in the door, but thought no give it a chance. It smelt bad, but I wasn't sure if it was the dog by the bar...but later realised it was the place ....Asian man served us and when I asked for wine I saw the glass he was about to give...

My wife & I visited Ashbourne 13-17 July this year. Monday and Tuesday, at around 1630 hours we ate in the pub, 2 meals from the selected menu @ £10. On the Wednesday we arrived at the same time, to be told by the young girl behind the bar we finish serving food at 1530 hours. When I explained that...

The most awful place I have ever stayed in. An all night lock in below followed by at 7.30 a drunk banging on my door who then puked everywhere and passed out cold right outside my door. Lovely! Avoid at all costs. Stay in the George and Dragon instead. My friends did and oh how they laughed!

do not stay here if you intend on sleeping at all or if you like a clean mattress.. it was stained and about 10 years old and a old tv is provided but doesn't work. the pub also has other pubs on each side of it so people shout and fight outside the pub all night long

Yes the pub is tired, but a good value for money menu. We visited for the first time with our young family, and had a Sunday Lunch. It was piping hot 'home-cooked' style food. Nice roasties! Impressed with both the young blonde barmaid, who was very sweet with our children, and very friendly 'regulars'. We will definitely return the next...

Visited on a. Monday lunch time with the family. The menu appeared good value for money so we ordered. Whist waiting for the food (around 40 minutes) we had plenty of time to look around and observe how tired and dirty the pub interior is. When the food arrived it was plentiful but the quality was sub standard. We would...

We had lunch here as a family of 5 a month ago. On the plus side it serves a decent selection of real ales and good food that is excellent value for money. On the down side it has steps down so is not pushchair friendly, swearing regulars which is not children friendly and a tired interior. If you want...

Regular readers of my reviews know my propensity for sourcing establishments that are dog friendly, The Old Vaults lived up to this. This pub is an ideal stopping off point prior to entering the Peak District national park. We including the dogs were made very welcome, ideally located in the Market Square this pub offered not only real ale but...
