We love the Lake District and often visit Wasdale but have never stayed in the Wasdale Head Inn before. On this occasion we arrived in the dark and soaking wet having walked from Langdale in the snow with a blizzard slowing our progress and making navigation difficult. We hadn't booked but the receptionist couldn't have been more welcoming, showing us...

We called for a meal early Friday evening, it was quiet and our order was taken and the food served promptly. The portions were generous...real chips rather than oven chips, and a Greek salad so huge that I could only eat half. The staff were happy to pack the remainder up for me to bring home.

I feel it's only fair to start my review by saying I'm an avid walker who loves the Lake District. I am very sentimental about Wast Water as it has been my friend during good times and bad. Consequently my review could be considered emotionally bias! However, I became that way for a reason and that is because this place...

This home of British Mountaineering is full of mountaineering and walking gear going back centuries. The views are to die for, with Yewbarrow, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and the Scafell Massif guarding three sides. The fourth side has Wastwater in its view. No need for a car, there are a multitude of walks of all grades going off in every...

Only went for a meal after visiting the most dramatic lake in the Lakes. Since it's literally at the end of the road and you can go no further, I did not know what to expect. What I got was a terrific old-style pub wreaking of character, and young staff who appeared to love the place as much as the...

Early December was a perfect time to enjoy the climb and surrounding area without the crowds. The Inn is truly the birthplace of climbing in England. Memorabilia and quaint rooms compliment the efficiency of the inn and delightful staff. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Stopped to have a late lunch (or early tea really) on Wednesday after our Scafell hike. We just wanted a bit of a sandwich and a few chips each. Omg the sandwiches were enormous. For under £6 each for a sandwich we got a full ciabatta with plenty of filling, a side salad with dressing and loads of crisps. Plus...

Stayed at one of the apartments for short break with wife and baby son. Apartment was alot better than we expected. Food and drink is tip top, remember to try the restaurant. Staff are fantastic you can't ask anymore from them. Perfect short break to get away from it all and re-charge the batteries.

Very accommodating Inn, good food and drink, lovely Garden Room. You can hear the people clearly walking about and visiting the loo in the room above but that didn't bother us. The mountains are breathtaking!

Just returned from a three day break 24th-27th December, as an avid walker have been coming here for many years and would like to congratulate the staff especially Gillian the manager who has turned this place around. Without doubt the place is on the up and up, the accommodation was second to none, clean and well presented, all in great...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The world-famous Wasdale Head Inn, known as the birthplace of climbing, is dramatically surrounded by England's tallest mountains, making it the finest base for walking and climbing. The Inn is situated at the head of remote and unspoiled Wasdale, and if you are seeking the superlative this is where you will find it. England's highest mountain, the deepest lake, the smallest Church, and the original world's biggest liar can all be found in this tranquil corner of the Lake District.
