Early December was a perfect time to enjoy the climb and surrounding area without the crowds. The Inn is truly the birthplace of climbing in England. Memorabilia and quaint rooms compliment the efficiency of the inn and delightful staff. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Stopped to have a late lunch (or early tea really) on Wednesday after our Scafell hike. We just wanted a bit of a sandwich and a few chips each. Omg the sandwiches were enormous. For under £6 each for a sandwich we got a full ciabatta with plenty of filling, a side salad with dressing and loads of crisps. Plus...

Stayed at one of the apartments for short break with wife and baby son. Apartment was alot better than we expected. Food and drink is tip top, remember to try the restaurant. Staff are fantastic you can't ask anymore from them. Perfect short break to get away from it all and re-charge the batteries.

Very accommodating Inn, good food and drink, lovely Garden Room. You can hear the people clearly walking about and visiting the loo in the room above but that didn't bother us. The mountains are breathtaking!

Just returned from a three day break 24th-27th December, as an avid walker have been coming here for many years and would like to congratulate the staff especially Gillian the manager who has turned this place around. Without doubt the place is on the up and up, the accommodation was second to none, clean and well presented, all in great...

We went for lunch, which was totally unexpected. Our lunch was great. And pudding too. And the ale. All very tasty indeed. Dogs allowed too. My only gripe is that the young girl serving my husband wasn't capable of answering questions about ingredients and allergies. I suffer with life threatening allergies and she grunted at my husband and said she...

Many thanks for your review, and I'm glad you enjoyed the food and drink. I'm sorry that the new staff member had not been properly trained, this has now been rectified. Our menus do show the relevant allergy warnings and it should of course be easy to check directly with the chefs in case of a specific concern.

First Impressions - the drive up to the Inn is along narrow winding roads, the scenery simply spectacular. Views of Wastwater, the screes and the surrounding mountains take your breath away. We were able to park right outside the door and received a very warm, homely welcome. We were given a brief tour of the hotel before being taken to...

What a place! Accessed by some single track roads, which can be tricky. Driving alongside beautiful lakes shadowed by high mountains. When you arrive the Inn is located at the end of the road. It's an old fashioned place, lots of little rooms, benches and tables, log fires, what a reception. The bar serves good hearty food, good real ales,...

This is a unique place. It's a privilege to be able to stay at one of the most sublime places on the planet - Wasdale Head - the home of walking and climbing in the Lakes. Don't expect five star all the time but be very grateful for all the amazing creature comforts that this wonderful and fairly isolated place...

First visit in 1973 and a regular visitor too - one of the highlights of a visit to the Lakes. Have stayed previously but this time just called in for food after a long walk down the valley. Friendly, efficient staff; excellent food and drink. Simple furniture, flag floor and wood burner - what could be better? Reasonably priced and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The world-famous Wasdale Head Inn, known as the birthplace of climbing, is dramatically surrounded by England's tallest mountains, making it the finest base for walking and climbing. The Inn is situated at the head of remote and unspoiled Wasdale, and if you are seeking the superlative this is where you will find it. England's highest mountain, the deepest lake, the smallest Church, and the original world's biggest liar can all be found in this tranquil corner of the Lake District.
