A nice hotel, that is dealing well with the COVID situation. The rooms are very clean and well equipped. The WiFi is a little slow which is a bit difficult sometimes when on a business trip. The restaurant is good with a good menu and well priced

Just back from a wonderful weekend at the Pennington Hotel. We booked very last minute, so didn't really have time to do any research on the hotel or the area, but we are so glad we made the decision to just book and go. Staff: the staff are friendly and hard working. The two younger male members of staff deserve a mention, as they were so lovely and made us feel very welcome, as did the lady on breakfast and lunch service on the Saturday. Location: middle of the very quiet village, opposite the lovely beach. Stunning views from the beach. Lots of lovely walks. Room: we stayed in Room 20, which was big and very clean. The mattress could probably do with replacing at some point soon, as it was a tad uncomfortable, but nothing to detract from our lovely stay too much. Food: delicious. We stayed half board, and had the choice of the full menu. Breakfast and evening meal were both tasty and plentiful Price: we feel we got what we paid for: wonderful location, friendly staff, delicious food. Can't wait to return, and have already recommended to friends and family.

Another fantastic stay at the Pennington..even in this pandemic the staff were very friendly and professional.. we had a couple of request due to us bringing our 4 month old puppy Percy and the staff very helpful. The room 21 was perfect as it was in the annex and easy to get outside for a quick exit due to training issues. We ate in and the meals were very nice. Thank you to all the staff.

We visited for lunch and having looked at the menu online, we were looking forward to our meal, unfortunately it was disappointing. We had nachos to start, I asked if they could not include the pork as I am a vegetarian, that was not a problem. However, for £6.50 a bowl of cheap tortillas with a bit of cheese that hadn't properly melted, it is a bit of a rip off. For that price I would expect at least some salsa with it!? The mains were also quite disappointing especially as it's not the cheapest place for a meal. The service was OK, but we felt like more of an inconvenience to the staff then anything else. Would not be keen to return.

We have loved the Pennington. Ravenglass is a lovely, largely unspoiled village with great views. It also gives easy access to the glorious western lakes. This was our fourth stay in the Pennington and, unless things change we won’t return. We first came shortly after the hotel reopened after years of dereliction and it was very good. Over subsequent visits it seems to be less well managed and less well cared for. The staff are keen and friendly but there seems to be an overall lack of management oversight. We found this on our last visit but it was more pronounced this time. Of course Covid makes everything more difficult but we came to the Pennington from a hotel elsewhere in the Lake District where staff had really gone “the extra mile” to compensate. Examples: our room had some paint and plaster missing. The window surround had flaking paint. The breakfast menu really needs veggie/vegan options. The cooking was fine but the quality of the food wasn’t great, it felt like breakfast to a budget. Maybe things had been taken off surfaces for hygiene but the building felt pretty spartan. Looking back at other reviews here I don’t see the owner comments - I hope that these comments are read because there are some themes. The Pennington is potentially very good, please give it the input this historic hotel deserves.
