Stayed in December 19, had a rather okay visit with a decent room. Booked in July 2020 for 1 night and had a really unpleasant stay. Room was a mess, weird layout - hit my head twice on the low ceiling when going the toilet. Lots of cigarettes buds outside the hotel, bar service was slow, reception staff unfriendly, which is usually a bad sign! Has a nice charm but needs a MASSIVE refurbish ASAP. Overpriced hotel in my opinion.

Dear tombonee, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are currently investing a substantial amount of time and money into giving Newby Bridge Hotel a room by room facelift and no doubt you saw the carpet fitters and painters around the hotel during your stay. The work is being hampered by COVID, but we are really looking forward to the end result. We hope you enjoyed your stay in the Lake District and look forward to being able to welcome you back to the finished Newby Bridge Hotel in the future. With best wishes, Newby Bridge Hotel

This hotel is in dire need of some TLC. Although Covid-19 restrictions were in place during our visit we found that the staff had a fairly relaxed attitude though several of them seemed less than enthusiastic to be working. Our room had a lovely view over Lake Windermere and that was the best part of it. A lick of paint here and there was sorely needed. Breakfast was fine whilst the evening meal turned out to be a triumph of enthusiasm over substance.

Was meant to stay 2 nights didn’t get to unpack .our room was different to the picture when we booked , it didn’t even look nice , was old looking .dirty skirting boards stained broken lamp and stained bed base and bed side lights thick with dust , got offered another room which was full of cobwebs ,toP of the bed thick of dirt and looked as if something was growing up there, was told 3 cleaners had been in .by this time we just wanted to go home was very stressed ,should of been spotless especially with the COVID 19 got refused refund but eventually got it few days later .out break was absolutely ruined as we waited 8 months ,also the lady on reception wasn’t very nice and made it clear we wasn’t getting our money back even though it wasn’t our fault .would not recommend to anyone We had a 2 hr drive there and 2 hr drive back home which as wasted .

Response from South Lakes Hotels, General Manager at Newby Bridge Hotel
Responded 2 Nov 2020
Dear MrMrsFree, I would like to reiterate the apology our Duty Manager gave when she called you - we are extremely sorry for the way your complaint was dealt with at reception and can only express our apologies once more. This is not representative of the type of service that we operate here hence our extreme disappointment that we let you down like this. We are pleased that our Duty Manager was able to issue your refund and make a personal apology. We will be addressing your housekeeping concerns with the team once we reopen after this second lockdown. With best wishes, Newby Bridge Hotel

Great service and food. 2 adults and 2 children left clean plates all round. Lots on the menu and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. They gave us a choice of sitting in the bar or restaurant and we chose the restaurant.

There was a bizarre trend for staff to wear masks under their noses and sometimes even under their mouths too. Consequently didn’t feel particularly safe. Otherwise an ok place to stay, staff were friendly, rooms were clean although they hadn’t thought through their Covid plans as rooms were not being serviced but dry towels and room supplies left for you to collect from a table which was fine but there was no system for returning wet towels or emptying bins - with a small baby this meant fairly stinky bins after 4 days! Food was ok, nothing to write home about! The pool was a nice perk.

Response from South Lakes Hotels, General Manager at Newby Bridge Hotel
Responded 28 Oct 2020
Dear Robyn C, Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to read that you saw some of our staff not wearing their masks correctly, this has surprised us as this is not something that has been observed on our covid spot checks at the hotel so we will speak to the Duty Manager about this. Our Covid risk assessment means that we are not servicing rooms currently to ensure that both our guests and staff are kept safe, I am very sorry if this was not explained clearly at check-in. We have a number of refill stations throughout the hotel and any towels or bins which are left outside your door will be replaced or emptied as required each day. Thank you very much once again for your review which we will discuss at our next staff meeting as all feedback is welcome. With best wishes Newly Bridge Hotel
