Our walking group has stayed here on several earlier occasions (the last being 2009) and the trend has always been upwards. You will be well looked after by the current team who provided a great weekend fell walking package. Good food, good beer, good value, plenty of hot water and friendly, attentive staff. Could do better? Only the decor, bedrooms...

We visited the Book House Inn twice during our four night stay in the Lake District. Food was of a high standard. Strongly recommend the Beef and Ale pie for mains, also enjoyed very good starters - Black Pudding and Goat cheese. Excellent choice of deserts and thoroughly enjoyed the whiskey and truffle desert. Cracking traditional pub with excellent selection...

Have stayed at the campsite up the road a few times and have tried all the pubs in the area and this is the one I end up returning to ,they have a great selection of local cask ales ,there was eight on when last I visited ,over 200 whiskeys and fantastic food. The food is good quality restaurant standard...

As this pub is nearby and we visit quite often, we went for a midweek meal last week and were not disappointed. It's traditional pub grub with a decent specials board, offering some interesting starters and mains. We both had the steak and ale pie and fresh veg with chips for myself and mash for my wife. The beer (real...

Lots of malt whiskies, listed by Scottish area or island. A slightly complicated staff rota means that, over a 3-day stay we were rarely served by the same member of staff (almost all of them were friendly and helpful) so, if you want to reward good service by an individual, don't leave it until the end of your stay. The...

We had a meal here on a Friday night while staying on the campsite up the road. We had popped in for a quick pint the night before and asked if we needed to book - which we were recommended to do for a Friday. We decided to book and were even given a choice of tables. The food was...

Visited the brook for Sunday lunch it's a quaint little pub in glorious surroundings and we were lucky enough to have the sun shinning and be able to sit outside. To begin we shared some spare ribs quite nice and tasty. For main I got roast beef it was a topside or silverside which tends to be tough if you...

Where to start? This place was just great across the board. Food, staff, location, ales, rooms. We arrived pretty late on a Friday evening after work to stay the weekend, they very kindly kept the kitchen open a little longer for us and the food was top quality. Add the selection of ales on offer and I was like a...

I can see why this hotel was awarded the CAMRA pub of the year award. At short notice they pulled out the stops to accommodate our party of eleven hungry folk on a very busy evening in the restaurant. We were given a room off the main dining area. The waitress epitomised the phrase service with a smile as she...

We visited this pub at 1730 today, Sunday, and asked at the bar for 2 cups of tea, one Earl Grey and one ordinary. Our order was taken and written down on a slip of paper. We paid £3.50 and sat 10 feet away from the bar. It was moderately busy, with a number of walkers coming in and ordering...
