We were looking for somewhere to stay while we climbed some hills over the New Years period. I’m not keen on staying at a pub but it was no problem, it is in a great location. It is a good value no thrills place, the room was as clean and warm, spacious and everything needed for after a day in the hills. Lovely views down the valley, very peaceful. The pub was warm and welcoming especially with all the Christmas decorations up. The staff were always friendly and helpful and Jonty, the host is a real local character who has a vast local knowledge, giving us advice on getting the most out our time in the area. We will come back.

Stayed locally over December/New Year and stumbled upon this little gem of a pub, by chance - And then kept going back! Really welcoming place, wonderful staff and service received: nothing was too much trouble and they couldn’t do enough for us! Spent New Years Eve there and thoroughly enjoyed it - Buffet, Piper and fireworks laid on. Excellent atmosphere and great fun! Arrived to get drunk and left having made friends, so thank you! See you again soon!

We cannot wait to go back. Thank you for your hospitality, in our time of need. Lisa & Chris

We recently climbed Scafell Pike and stayed in this friendly pub which gave superb service. Food was huge and plentiful. No thrills and basic accommodation. Expect what you pay for. However, great selection of drinks, warm and inviting environment, perfect little fire place and excellent service. All staff were accommodating and the landlord is a top guy and very trusting. Planning when we will come back next year. Perfect hideaway in the mountains.
