Nice comfortable inn on the C2C. Really nice bar area and excellent food. Very helpful staff. Probably the best desserts we had during our hike. Very popular place, because it was packed. Beautiful location in the Lake Region, before the infamous climbs.

Booked in here to overnight after Day 1 of my Coast to Coast walk. Check-in was easy. All staff were friendly/helpful. The food at dinner [carbonara] was great, as was the huge breakfast. The bedroom was superb for an "inn with rooms" [I got a twin room at a single occupancy price] and I had a private bathroom with a...

Stayed one night on the C2C walk. Our room had a rather small ensuite bathroom and nice view to the garden on the west side of the hotel. Comfortable bed - very important. The hotel staff were friendly and we sat outside for a drink in the pleasant courtyard/patio area. We enjoyed the lamb shank for supper. Breakfast was also...

Nothing like arriving to find cold beer, a warm welcome, comfortable room and an excellent dinner. Not all in that order. Breakfast was the best as when the chef learned that an American wanted black pudding with her porridge he brought me not one serving but two different types. My hero!

After our first walking day on the C2C it was good to spend our first night in a friendly hotel with good food and a comfortable bed, ready for another busy day ahead. The hotel is perfect for walkers and holiday makers visiting the area. There is not a lift for suitcases.

We stayed for 1 night on Coast to Coast walk. Our room was small and not en-suite. The private bathroom across corridor was however perfect, modern and spacious. The bar area was only set up for dining and not a place to sit with a drink and relax. Wifi poor.

Very welcoming hosts....great food and a tremendous breakfast. Everything the serious walker could hope for with luxurious rooms and terrific views of the hills. Our host was apologetic that we had a small room (only one left) but for us it was no problem and for the second night they moved us to a much larger room. Excellent décor and...

We had a very half-hearted welcome on arriving at the Shepherds Arms - staff were busy with admin tasks and only reluctantly stopped to check us in. The room was good - spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately there was a power cut (lightening storms nearby) soon after our arrival and so the kitchen - and whole pub was closed. We went...

Although we didn’t actually stay here, I feel I must make a comment. While walking the Coast to Coast 1st June 2015, we ventured out from Ennerdale Bridge planning to take the high route to Rosthwaite. Sadly the worst first day of summer in 40years descended more quickly than anticipated and though we were well prepared with warm walking gear,...

What a fantastic pub/restaurant and hotel all in one. Just what the coast to coaster wants after nearly 15miles. A warm welcome and bowl of water for Scamper dog with a pint, then we went to the room. Fantastically decorated, boot tray, brew tray, TV, WIFI, good biscuit selection to dunk in your brew. My bathroom was next door, only...
