Allocated Room 4 originally, we were moved, to a much more acceptable ( albeit a smaller ), Room 1A . Our single son stayed in, and was very happy, with Room 12A as he has been there many times in the past 26 years of him visiting The Borrowdale. We ( as family ) all thought the refurb throughout the...

First time we have stayed here but we will definitely do so again. The room was good with plenty of space, modern bathroom with places to put things, and was warm. Although the hotel is situated by the side of the road the traffic was light and did not cause any problems. The hotel has three nice lounges plus the...

We booked with the hotel directly and had room 46 (which is their best room) and a dinner bed and breakfast package all for £145. The hotel is very modern on the inside and the room was really well finished, just like a 5 star London equivalent which was a big surprise. The food at dinner was excellent, good sized...

This is a dog friendly hotel which has not stinted on quality. The rooms are spacious and stylish, food is amazing and staff are great. All that and the location at lake Derwent water is spectacular with lovely walks and proper paths around the lake. Cannot praise the staff enough.

The Borrowdale Hotel was a wonderful discovery. We hadn't stayed there before and only booked because we were attending a family lunch party there. What a good decision! We stayed 5 nights BB and evening meal and enjoyed every moment. Our room (4) was big and very comfortable and the bathroom was equally large. The view from the windows at the...

The Borrowdale has been in operation for many years and has reputation for great food and service. We stayed one night and although the rather was poor we enjoyed our visit greatly. We visited mid-Spetember and so the residents were mainly more mature couples without children and I suspect they are repeat guests. It was many years since we had...

The Borrowdale offers traditional style hotel accommodation The restaurant provides really good modern food and throughout the hotel there is a relaxed atmosphere and good service. The hotel welcomes dogs and there were quite a few around. Booked a Prestige room Dinner Bed and Breakfast for a 2 night deal. The room (no 4) was spacious with a super king...

I arrived at the lovely Borrowdale hotel with my husband, our two year old daughter and our border collie. When we booked the room through the hotel we were assured paying for an upgrade meant a bigger room. When we entered our room it was small, to say the least. We would not be able to fit our daughter's travel...

A traditional but updated hotel in lovely position with fell or lake views. The restaurant was excellent with tasty food and professional staff. Breakfast was well cooked and there was plenty of choice. The bar is smart and friendly. Would stay at this hotel again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
