I and the family stopped here on our way to Keswick for a bite to eat. There was a roaring fire going to get us warm and we all ordered food. My beef sandwich with a side order of chips was just the job! Excellent I cannot speak to highly about the quality of the food and reasonably priced. Well...

Pleasant hotel. caters for more mature guest predominantly 60+++. Enjoyed hotel but our room was close to the stairs so woken by guests coming and going late at night and early every morning . Also at stairs is housekeeping office and this again meant you were woken early by guests being greeted by staff. if I returned I would not...

We have stayed at this well positioned hotel many times. Walk out of the front entrance and your eyes will be treated to one of the most beautiful views in the lake district. Food is excellent with a 'Silver Service' touch and Sunday lunches are recognised as the best around. Rooms have been upgraded and have modern facilities with excellent...

This is a wonderful location but you need a car to explore the surrounding area. we love it because it is a quiet spot with stunning views and it is a short distance to the shore of Derwent Water. The hotel staff are friendly and very helpful; the rooms are comfortable and well kept; the food menus give you good...

This is the third time we have visited the Borrowdale for a meal since October. The bar area is lovely and the Christmas decorations were an added bonus. Lovely seating area by the fire and dog friendly. The staff are great and the food superb on all three occasions. Can't wait for our next visit.

A nice treat in between Xmas and new year Had a prestige room that included evening meal and breakfast at a cost of £380 for one night! Expensive to be honest but was booked by a Freind who had been there before. The room was lovely and not in the hotel, was like your own attatched cottage, nice and spacious...

We spent 3 nights at the hotel from 30/12/16 - 2/1/17. The hotel was beautiful and the staff were friendly, welcoming and couldn't do enough for the guests. When we arrived there was a bottle of fizz and chocolates waiting for us in the room. We chose the standard double and it was spacious and spotless. The food was amazing...

My wife and I stayed here along with another couple on 29/12/16. It is fair to say the experience was superb. The hotel has a very unique feel but don't expect a posh up to date place with amazing decor, this is not modern but we liked that! The service can not be faulted at all, all staff appeared very...

My daughter and I spent Christmas at The Borrowdale Hotel this year. It was a particularly sad time as my husband has passed away early this year and we had stayed at the hotel for many years. The staff were extremely sensitive, thoughtful and a joy to be with. My daughter's dietary needs presented quite a challenge ( vegetarian, wheat...

Stayed here for a long weekend of exploring the lakes. Ideally suited and great location from which to base yourself. We visited the lakes and went walking every day. Rooms are a little on the small side however comfortable and provide you with what you need. The daily menu was very nice and service in the restaurant good. Sitting outside...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
