I went there for lunch with a friend. The ambience is a bit grim with no soft furnishings and bare tables and floors. It can be worse though as they said that they played music. We were fortunate that they didn't. The food was good and wholesome and the bread exceptional. I have been there previously for tea in a...

Great hotel, Carole runs this place with a smile and can't do enough for you, room was really nice and very clean, food was great. Second visit this year and will go back. Nice garden out the back, which on a summers evening would be lovely.

We recently spent a week in Alston with our two teens and visited Alston House several times. Dog friendly, and helpful staff. Nice surroundings. Weather not nice enough to sit outside but garden looked nice. Varied and wide menu with good specials board. Would have no hesitation in recommending Alston House.

Alston House gives very good value. After a warm welcome the staff provided efficient, friendly service together with a willingness to meet individual requests. My immaculate room was modern and comfortable. The quality and quantity of the well prepared food more than satisfied my appetite. Real ale in the bar completed an enjoyable visit.

Stayed here for one night whilst on coast to coast bike ride from Whitehaven. Lovely rooms, very comfy beds, great food. Quite an oasis in the middle of the pennines. Rooms a good size, all mod cons supplied. Great stopover having just climbed and descended Hartside.

Lovely, comfortable and stylish rooms with good biscuits and beverages. My room had a bath only which was really lovely but you may want to specify a shower if you have that preference. Amazing food in the restaurant (I recommend the chocolate brownie) and breakfasts. We received a lovely warm welcome and the staff were friendly throughout our stay.

Stayed one night to break a journey to Scotland. We chose Alston House on the strength of the Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. The House has its own convenient car park right opposite and we were able to unload and store our bicycles in a locked room at the side of house. It is apparently popular with cyclists...

A nice sight at the end of a wet ride up Hartside and a cold descent to Alston. A welcoming but somewhat shabby hotel in need of refurbishment. The room was comfortable but the sloping floors were somewhat confusing The food was reasonable but the apple crumble and custard was the best I have ever tasted. The wifi was not...

Came for daughters 30th bash at a local campsite. Stayed 1 night here! The staff were friendly and informative. They provided plate of evening sandwiches in my room for late return from campsite. Food in restaurant had a wide choice of tempting dishes. Excellent stopover!
