Did not stay at Cocos, but had a few meals there this year, too. Chay (I think that's how it's spelled) recommended grilled fish not on the menu, and it was the best meal I've had in Cocos ever. Their pizzas are always great! We also bought bottles of their moonshine whisky - it actually tastes very nice. The Mula...

Unfortunately, it was very windy most of my time there, so fishing was off and it wasn't possible to dive, although I did snorkel quite a bit north of here. Basic rooms w/two beds and a bath. This is not the Mariott, nor does it try to be. You are not in an urban environment here. Ceiling fans and sea...

This property is not for those looking for pristine accomodations, but is very clean and comfortable. The palapa-roofed bungelows sometimes have a resident iguana or 2, but are well-equipped and comfy. Breakfast is included, and other meals are not expensive, and tasty!

We did not stay at this hotel, but had dinner there. The ambience was nice, a pleasant palapa-like structure with a comfy breeze blowing. Service was slow but adequate given the number of diners there. We arrived about ten minutes before a large crowd started drifting in; it was Sat evening with live entertainment beginning in an hour or so....

Nice property away from everything. Our private cabana was clean and shuttered to catch the breezes. Showers were hot and bathrooms large. Beds comfortable. We took a snorkel trip with Reuben who was a great guide and went above and beyond to make a stressful bump in the road turn out fine. The food was very good, we ate each...

A friend and I spent 5 nights, 4 days fishing at Cocos. The fishing was great...bonefish and tarpon. Alberto, our guide, was on top of everything. The staff at Cocos was exceptional - friendly, helpful, considerate. In fact, I don't think I've encountered a staff as friendly and capable as the local folks at Cocos. The food was good; the...

Xcalak is a beautiful and lonely place! Costa de Cocos was the only hotel that was not overpriced. They gave us a discount as we were travelling in the off-season. All other hotels were at least 75 US$ the night. The breakfast was included and it was really good! In general the restaurant was excellent (although it was a little...

Xcalak and Costa de Cocos is a long way from any where, which makes it a great place to get away and relax. The rooms are rustic cabanas but they are clean. The resort is located north of the town and somewhat remote. Fortunately they have a good restaurant on site with plenty of food options and the food is...

Xcalak Mexico is not your normal travel destination. But if you love fly-fishing it is a great place to fish for bone fish, permit, snook and tarpon. Staff are friendly and facility is nice. The fishing guides are very knowledgeable of Chetumal bay and will make your fly-fishing experience a great one. They even helped me land my first permit...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Costa de Cocos is about immersing yourself in nature, while relaxing in a hammock suspended under palm trees, enjoying an ice cold beverage on our patio, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, traveling along the coast in a kayak, or touring the surrounding landscape on foot, observing our local flora and fauna. From our shore you will observe numerous juvenile fish in the shallows, while multiple species of shorebirds feed along the coast. All you hear is the gentle roar of waves breaking on the nearby reef, all you feel is the warm sun and a gentle breeze blowing across your skin. You are surrounded by turquoise waters and dense jungle and mangroves. No skyscrapers, crowds, or cell phones.Costa de Cocos offers a truly unique experience on the frontier of Mexico. Our environmentally friendly resort has much to offer those who seek to experience life off the beaten path. We are located within the Xcalak Reef National Marine Park (Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Xcalak). The closest gas station and ATM are 30 miles (50 km) away, and the closest sizable town, Chetumal, is a distant 130 miles (200 km). Power is provided by the sun, with a generator backup. No square concrete rooms here, you will stay in a private Mayan-style beach bungalow with attached bathroom and shower. You will dine in our shore-front restaurant and bar, with wood decor and thatched roof.During your stay you can go fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, experience guided bird tours, kayak along the coast, visit Mayan ruins, travel to nearby towns and museums, and visit Belize. We are located five hours south of Cancun and three hours north of Chetumal. Belize and Ambergris Caye are located only a few short miles to the south. We have a wireless Internet connection, but no cell or land-line phone service. The nearby village of Xcalak offers very little in the way of shopping and nightlife. If you are looking for sandy beaches, shopping, and an active night life, it it best not to choose us. ... more   less
