The Luz was recommended to me for its proximity to bus and taxi collectivo access, and is right on the main square and tourist area. It's a very laid back spot, and some of the staff speak English well enough to get by. The room I had on the second floor, looking out onto the large pool, was fairly standard,...

Four of us spent one night at Maria de la luz while touring ruins in the Valladolid area. This is a lovely hotel and it was perfect for our needs. The hotel is located in the middle of town, which is nicely placed for a quick walking tour of the area. To the right as you step out of the...

During a recent stay at this hotel we were blessed with an opportunity to experience hospitality unlike what is normally encountered in Western culture. On the second evening here the sky opened up with a torrential downpour of biblical proportions. Hunkering down and waiting for locust seemed like the only option as we were quite literally trapped. The roads were...

We loved Maria de la Luz. It was right on the square, and the restaurant is open and faces the street. The hotel has a great, open feel, and is organized around a pool. There are plenty of places to sit and hang out, so bring along cards or a backgammon board for some quiet time on one of the...

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Maria de la Luz for two nights on Jan 3rd and 4th in order to visit the archeological sites of Ek Balam and Chichen Itza. I chose the hotel because of its price, free parking, and the ability to make advance reservations. When we arrived, I immediately loved the hotel's location on...

We spent one night at this hotel in one of the 2 junior suites that they offer. At this time (we booked directly through the hotel website) the rate for a regular room was $45 and the junior suite was $60. We are a family of five with three young children so we opted for the larger room which contained...

We stayed for 3 nights while exploring Vallodolid and the hotel was fine. Not great, but certainly adequate for the price. We contacted via internet and did not get a response until we emailed in Spanish. The hotel had a lot of Mexican families and we enjoyed talking to them at breakfast. Staff only spoke Spanish which was fine with...

The staff was friendly and the location was great. But the rooms were a little dingy and the beds were uncomfortable. The main thing that turned me off was the breakfast (not included in the price). There were flies everywhere, landing on the food, and I got sick a few hours after eating here. The next night we changed and...

My message is very simple. Avoid this hotel. We had two small rooms in a dark, stinky corridor. The AC machine was essentially useful as to produce noise, not cold. Holes in the spread, dirty mirrors in the toilette, etc. We were so upset that after seeing the rooms we decided not to stay and moved immediately to the other...

I feel like I stayed at a different hotel than some of the other reviewers. This was our second stay at this hotel. We find it good value for the cost and the breakfast is a wonderful deal! The hotel is old and bit shabby, but it is in better shape then our first visit a couple of years ago....
