Secrets Akumal is a fantastic adults only, all inclusive resort. Great location, beautiful beach, turtles just off shore and beautiful, highly maintained facilities make this a dream vacation. Each of the 9 hotel buildings have a concierge so you get the best possible attention and service. Our concierge, Fernanda was great, she knew everybody's name, always ready to help. We had upgraded to the Premiere Club which was worth it. It gets you preferred seating looking out at the ocean, but you still have to get up early a lay down a couple of towels to claim one of the better loungers. Down on the beach, there is beach attendant, very friendly and professional, as well as a food and drink attendant - they all work hard, very friendly and ready to meet your needs. With Premier Club, you also can have breakfast at the Seaside Restaurant where you can order food instead of always going to the buffet. Service is fantastic. Plus, nearby, there is the Special Premier room where you can just relax and have a free cocktail or two or three. The Infinity pool is where most of the pool activities take place. There is a great swim up bar, where you can sit and sip a cocktail. And then there are activities within the pool as well as near the pool. The Restaurants are excellent - I thought Oceana was the best with its fresh fish. But the other themed restaurants were very good. Probably only the newly opened Greek restaurant did not hit the mark. Wine selection was okay (they are the same in each restaurant), the house wines were all from Chile but you could upgrade to higher end wine, but with at least three times the value price. There are plenty of activities: one tip - when playing beach volleyball, there is coral in the sand, so don't dive after the volleyball or you can get some bad abrasions. The nighttime shows are entertaining - they are at the level of a moderate priced cruise ship. Overall, a great experience. Hyatt has done it well.

However, all desserts there are with cow's milk, depending on the reason then not an option. For Japanese show cooking you have to reserve several days in advance, with all others you are lucky or unlucky (45min. withdrawal period). All in all, breakfast & lunch in the Market Café was the highlight. Unfortunately, there is no buffet for dinner, only á la carte, nor can you go anywhere without a dress code (men must wear long pants). In the pools are only simple massage jets, unfortunately no surge showers or similar. All 3 pools are the same. The jacuzzis and the pools are heated. Turndown service was always with 2 small mint chocolates. However, if you are thinking about a birthday, you have to coordinate with the concierge beforehand, otherwise you will experience disappointment. All in all a very good restaurant, but we are here on the Yucatan coast and the selection is extreme, a unique selling proposition that sticks with me, unfortunately I could notice. Except, of course, for the many employees who really tried hard despite the extreme heat and sweated with us while archery, volleyball or clearing up. Praiseworthy were Fernando, Daniel, Giselle, Maryposa, Yolanda, Abraham, Octavio and much more.

You won't want to leave the pool or beach! Music is tasteful and mostly live with musicians.
The service is a cut above everyone else. Our concierge Ricardo was so attentive and helpful, totally committed to making our stay "better than fine". Everyone seems to know your name and they were really warm and friendly.
If you find their FB fan group, you can get the info for a private excursion guy who's tours are reasonable and private. The town of Akumal is charming and restaurants are nearby if you venture offsite. But the food at the resort is way better. This was by far one of the nicest resorts I have ever stayed at.
The food is exceptional. But the staff here is superior to any staff at any Resort or hotel I have stayed at.
Antonio is a concierge at the pool and he is phenomenal. I have no idea how he remembers the names of so many guests. Raul, the Waiter at Portofino has a very cherry disposition and he is a delight. The Coco Café offers specialty coffees and desserts, which are really good. Santiago at the lobby bar is a really good mixologist and Matteo at the sports bar always has a smile.
The grounds are lush and well kept. The beach is clean and also well kept and swimming in the saltwater watching the fish was a lot of fun. We took our own snorkelling equipment, but you can rent equipment at the site very cheaply.
By far, our favourite area was the lagoon pool because not only is it quiet so you can read a book, but there is very nice music playing all the time.
The Large pool is very active, but it never seemed crowded. The guests seemed very respectful and even though there were a number of events and weddings Taking place while we were there, they did not overpower the resort.
The rooms were very spacious. Our minibar was restocked every day. Our room cleaned every day and it was immaculate. The resort itself is well taken care of, and there is strong Wi-Fi everywhere.
I would highly recommend this resort and we definitely plan on coming back.
If we had to give a con, it would be that some guests were playing pool during some of the performances in the theatre and so I would recommend the resort close the pool tables during future performances.
Another potential con is that some guests would reserve lounges with towels. They seem to be a large number of “occupied “lounges but there weren’t any people around. That said, there were many available lounges so we never had a trouble finding a place to set. Also, some guests did request the concierge or attendants to remove towels or fine spots for them and they always were available.
Also, we had a swim out king, and other guests were very rowdy and loud in the pool and I Would suggest that the resort remind people in the swim out suites that they should treat it like they do the quiet pool, and not invite other guests to come and swim and be loud.
Even though it rained a bit when we were there, we were able to maneuver under many of the covered walkways and still enjoyed ourselves immensely.

What can we say! This is our 2nd trip in two years to this amazing resort. We stayed in room 4404 ocean view room (highly recommend) amazing views and perfect location recommend highly! We started our day at the Seaside grill for breakfast and it was amazing! The service is out of this world from our hostess to our servers to the manager (patròn) they were all amazing we can’t say enough good things about the crew and the food we also had lunch everyday and it never disappointed with service and food always hot a fresh!
We mainly hung out at the beach (amazing) I went snorkeling every day (right out front) and it’s good seen lots for fish & turtles, plenty of loungers for the preferred club and non-members, we rented a Bali bed for the day and let’s just say it’s not our thing and move on from there. We always had lunch at the Seaside Grill because of the AMAZING SERVICE and food quality! We never had the buffet and we don’t even know where it is (lol). There's is waiter service at the beach for dinks and light grill lunch options. There is always something going on in the way of food at the beach whether it’s a fresh made pizza, tacos, burgers chicken bbq and chino (Chinese) food and it was quite good ! Speciality drinks etc.
We stayed during Mexico's Real Independence Day 09/16 and let’s just say it didn’t disappoint with atop notch show with a special outside dinner drinks/ with amazing singers and dancers, food . There’s alway entertainment going on at night singers, fire show, performers always a theme of some sort, disco etc
Dinner was always amazing ! No shortage of restaurants being indoors our outdoors we had dinner at the French, Italian, Mexican and did not disappoint in food quality or service . The restaurants are equivalent to us going out to a nice restaurant on Long Island always great in presentation and flavors & service.

This was our second time at Secrets Akumal with the first time being over 5 years ago. It was so nice to come back and see that the beautiful resort and quality of service hadn't changed, if anything, it only got better! We had a non-preferred, swim out room and although it was fun, we didn't enjoy it too much as it was in the shade most of the time and was a little chilly. (FYI we were in building 9). We ate at Oceana, Seaside (multiple times for lunch and once for dinner), Himitsu twice, and Bordeaux -- all were great and we really enjoyed each meal. I don't think we had a meal that was bad but we definitely had ones we preferred over others. One thing I was very sad to see was that the snorkeling had changed since we had last been. Before, it was free and there was a hut right off the beach where someone would explain the expectations and rules. Now you either have to pay $10 deposit (you get the money back) to rent the items or you can pay to do a tour. I was sad because I don't feel like people are being taught how to respect the wildlife right off the beach when they snorkel on their own and we noticed that a lot of the strict signage was taken down. We didn't pay to do a tour and we did see one stingray and one sea turtle right off the Secrets beach which was great! However, we noticed some people getting extremely close to and almost touching the sea turtle and we think that is why Secrets needs to bring back at least explaining the expectations to those who snorkel. Our only other issue was housekeeping was hit or miss. Some days our rooms were cleaned by 10am, others they hadn't been touched by 5pm and we had to request for a room cleaning through the app. They also were not consistent with the turndown service. This did not ruin our stay by any means but it's little things we enjoy while we are here at the resort.
Overall, it was an excellent vacation and we will definitely return! The resort is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, and the food/drinks are delicious. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we hope to be back soon!

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Secrets Akumal and with this our 2nd visit, it did not disappoint. We stayed in Jan 24 and had high expectations for our return trip in the last 2 week of Jan 25. We had a Preferred Club Partial Sea View room, 4409 that was absolutely amazing.
What sets this resort out from others is not only it’s amazing location, but that ALL of the staff are very friendly, professional and engaging; where nothing is too much and they will go out of their way to assist to enhance your holiday experience.
Dining: We liked the Seaside Grill for all meals, breakfast for ‘preferred only’ at this location. Jamie the manager and his team are outstanding and attentive. Other restaurant mentions would be the Himitsu – Japanese, Asian, we dined here frequently and enjoyed the Teppanyaki experience. El Patio (Mexican), Portofino (Italian), Santorini (Greek – Preferred only). There is outdoor dining for themed nights, due to the weather, these were relocated to the Theatre on many occasions for our visit.
Concierge services are very attentive and informative. Headed up by Fernanda, (the concierge manager), she is absolutely amazing. She always has a smile on her face and goes the extra mile in order you’re your stay is exceptional.
Beach/Pool concierge and waiters/waitress are very good. Again, very attentive and they all work very hard to ensure your needs are catered for. Only on 1 day, was it hard to find a set of Sun Loungers. This was on a weekend when the resort must have been at capacity. Throughout this difficult period the Beach/Pool concierges tried hard to locate a place for us. Of note was concierge’s Agustin, Alexjandro, and waitress’s Sharon and Ana.
The Entertainment Team are very enthusiastic. We partook in the Kayak tour from the resort hosted by Max, this was very good and informative. Of particular note was Gabriel, he always found time to speak and ensured are stay was special.
To ensure a balanced review, the only element of the Resort that was less than ideal was the evening Corporate Events. One of these took place at the Pool 2 location and it was intrusive to our holiday experience. The very loud and bad Karaoke within this event was awful. Other events did take place and were non-intrusive to our stay. The Resort needs to manage these Corporate Events carefully, to ensure individual events don’t impact on the holidaymaker’s experience.
We don’t normally return to a location at all, the world is a big place, so the question of would we return to Secrets Akumal? This would be a definite YES. Our challenge and concern from now on, is that any subsequent resort that we go to, post our 2 holidays here in Jan 24 and 25, will have a very high bar to meet. We WILL come HOME again Secrets Akumul.

My experience at the Secrets Akumal hotel was wonderful. At all times my family and I were treated with unparalleled kindness, all staff always welcome you with a warm smile that makes you feel at home and are willing to support guests at all times. We arrived at 3 am and despite the afternoon we were warmly received, at the reception we were attended by Diego who had a good attitude throughout. We also had Sofia our concierge who was watching us at all times and informed us of the daily activities and being my mom's birthday made a small surprise in her room which made the day even more special. The hotel is perfectly designed to enjoy whether you like to relax with the sound of nature or if you like to be in a place with more atmosphere; the best of both worlds in one place. Mr. Antonio in charge of the pool area was always attentive to everything so that we did not need anything. The hotel has so many daily activities that it is impossible to get bored there is always something new to try and the entertainment staff has the best attitude to give you an amazing time full of fun, they are all wonderful! I was fortunate to go kayaking with Carlos and Gina who were excellent guides and very fun, the aqua spinning class with Karla or Max was fun and excellent to exercise, the bike ride with Carlos and Max I highly recommend as you visit beautiful places, the archery with Abraham was a challenging experience and he had the patience to explain as many times as necessary, the aquastrong with Jorge was challenging and fun. Andrea was very cute with everyone and stopped by to invite us to the different activities so we wouldn't miss the fun. Also greatly enjoy the huichol craftsmanship with Karla. All the training guys were great. The food was always high quality and delicious and for dinner there are a variety of restaurants and their outdoor shows with buffet dinner were fantastic 10/10. Manager Eleazar of the Market cafe restaurant was always attentive to everything being perfect and treating us to the best, the last day had the attention to bring us a small detail that made us feel very appreciated. The hotel really is a great decision to spend a few memorable days.

Secrets Akumal was a five star experience and we can't wait to return. We are picky travelers and have been to many other Secrets and Dreams, but this Secrets is even better than Maroma in many ways. It's newer and updated and preferred level is actually worth it and feels exclusive. You need a key card to enter the lounge and we were greeted by name every time! The bartender, Eduardo, was ready to craft any cocktail we could imagine or we could try his specialties. And the service from Alexandria in the lounge makes you feel like you don't have to lift a finger. They are kind and pleasant to chat with and we felt like VIPs. The resort has other amazing touches like a Greek restaurant that had the best lamb shank I've ever had. And the pools had carts with books and cool towels to refresh during the hot days. The beach is beautiful and you can snorkel right from the shore, seeing turtles, fish and stingrays. Alejandro on the beach kept my chair dry and towels tucked for a luxurious beach experience. The beach food staff from Ismael was attentive and quick. The property is well kept, feeling both lush and tropical, and we loved having three beautiful pools. The beach area is large. Nothing ever felt crowded. The hydrospa was one of the most relaxing experiences and I highly recommend it (Noe was Zen like and tranquil guiding us through the experience). Cleanliness is very important for us and all areas, including our room, was kept extremely tidy and sanitary. Even the pool/beach bathrooms were constantly being cleaned and restocked so it never felt wet or dirty. There was a bluefin tuna sashimi class that was TO DIE for! So incredibly fresh to experience tuna being carved right in front of us and it melted in our mouths. We couldn't believe it was free to attend. So many elevated perks at this resort make it stand out. William and Mauricio from UVC were easy to communicate via Whatsapp prior to our arrival and checked in with us daily for ANYTHING that we needed. They were next level concierge and even better than our building concierge. Because of these kind men, the customer service was felt prior to our arrival and stayed even as we left the property...5 stars all the way. Secrets Akumal, you have amazing staff who love their jobs and it shows in how they treat their guests. We can't wait to return to your property. Thank you for such a memorable experience.

We reserved a preferred club swim-out pool room and were assigned bldg #5. It was probably quieter than rooms by the beach but the mosquitoes in the room were terrible.
