Beautiful grounds, homey, cottage feel inside, friendly staff, great food, beautiful beach, wildlife. This place has everything!!! Cosy beds, lovely decor. It's out of the way, which also worked for us. Not much around. We loved our short stay and highly recommend it!
We loved our short stay at Tuckamore, only wish we had been able to stay longer. Barb and her staff were friendly and we loved the look and feel if the place. Peaceful and serene a place I'd love to retreat to.
What a beautiful Lodge! Guides were very knowledgeable and scenery was beautiful. The owner of the Lodge, Barb Genge makes everything perfect. Meals and rooms were wonderful. 90% success rate for the moose hunt that week.
We stayed for two nights, and visited L'Anse Aux Meadows on our full day - which is fantastic. The weather was hot and sunny more or less all the time, which is unusual for Newfoundland, I understand! So we were just tourists. But we really enjoyed our memorable stay at the Lodge. It is more part of the real Newfoundland than the other places we stayed, being at heart a hunting and fishing lodge. We greatly enjoyed the meals with other guests around the table - some of them great characters who stay there often - and learned more how to fish for salmon and hunt moose (and the occasional polar bear) on the island. The food was homely and the staff friendly. Like being part of the family. Our room was a bit small, but why sit in there when there is a beautiful lounge? It is a long drive up the peninsula, but worth it.…
The Tuckamore Lodge is a mixed bag. Of the positives, we really enjoyed meeting the other guests. There were quite a number of them that had been coming to the Lodge for years and they had lots of recommendations for things to do. The view of the lake from the dining room is gorgeous and serene. The staff are all kind and attentive. My husband has celiac disease and the kitchen not only did an amazing job accommodating his food needs but took great pride in reworking recipes so that he could enjoy his meal. We really appreciated this effort immensely. The hostess Barb does spend time in the dining room and checks in with each guest which felt warm and welcoming. There were a few things for us that impacted a positive review of this place. First, our room was tiny and extremely dark. The photos did not highlight these issues. The second issue, which it seems others have commented on is that if you are not a habitual guest, than it did seem service was different. When booking we specifically requested assistance with booking things to do. Other than fishing, we received no assistance prior to our arrival and we asked more than once. We also learned we really didn't know what to ask for in terms of booking. We would learn of all these great things returning guests were doing with private guides over meals, but none of this was offered to us and when we asked about these activities, these guides had now all been booked. It took away from the positive experience we had hoped to have had. If you plan to come here year after year, I would recommend this place, otherwise, I would stay elsewhere…
