I initially was not happy with the room but things got better the longer I was there. There was a strong smell of cigarette smoke when I walked in to the bedroom and we found housekeeping had not done a very good job vacuuming, sweeping, or wiping down surfaces. Front desk knocked some cost off the room rate and had someone come in the following day to spray something to deal with the smoke smell. The great parts about the room is we were feet from the ocean, the resort is out of the way so it's nice and quiet so no noise complaints. While the resort is out of the way it's still very central with Nanaimo and Parksville being within 15 minutes in either direction. My family and I are already planning on returning next summer for a longer stay.

Pretty dated but very large and comfortable apartments with lots of kitchen equipment to self cater. Great to have a laundry. Stayed during COVID period and pool was closed for the couple of days we were there, but kids enjoyed the rec room. Cleaning staff helpful, happy to supply extra laundry powder etc as needed (don’t buy from front desk, the cleaning staff will give it to you for free as reasonably needed). Lots of parking and beautiful sunset views. Location is good for car access to Parksville but not much within walking distance. Biking on the local roads is a bit terrifying - we ended up driving a fair bit to get around. But aside from that aspect, this was good value for the size of apartment, amenities and generally high levels of cleanliness.

Firstly we had an absolutely fabulous time here over the September long weekend- easily the highlight of our summer.
Upon arrival admittedly I groaned. The buildings look a bit worn and our suite was definitely dated. However the suite was incredibly spacious and the kitchen well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. The grounds are spectacular. There are grassy areas to play on, trails to explore and a fantastic beach right out front. Most days we had the beach to ourselves. The beach isn’t a sandy beach like in Parksville but there are many tidal pools to explore. The kids enjoyed the pool and the complimentary paddle board rentals too. There is so much value here if you can just look past the cosmetic imperfections. We will definitely be back :)

Pacific Shores Resort is a great place to stay. We could only stay one night but next time I will plan for a longer stay. The rooms are nice and clean and bright and ours opened out onto a small patio and the lawn and gardens. The king-size bed was very comfortable and the place was tranquil at night. I really enjoyed the outdoor hot tub in the morning and they supply you with large fluffy towels and bath robes. The dining room and lounge do not open until the end of March but you get a beautiful ocean view from there. We enjoyed the ocean trails around the property and the beaches are beautiful, I will have to come back in the summer and go for a swim. We dined at the Rocking Horse Pud about 2 km. away and they have very good food, beer, and service.

Room looked terrific when we walked in. Upon a clearer look and preparing to settle for the night. Dirty socks were found by master bed, on opening the pull out bed, found garbage in the bed and candy wrappers on the floor. And a dead spider in a folded towel. We called the front desk and spoke with a very friendly young woman, Tiffany. She offered another room. Went to look at it but much further from water and on 4th floor. We decided to keep our room and do as thorough a clean as we could with our Clorox wipes we brought due to Covid. Tiffany gave us clean sheets, blankets and new towels. We asked if someone could come by in the morning and re clean. Tiffany was writing the note as we left to go back to room. We used our Clorox wipes to wipe down everything, and swept the crumbs and garbage to a corner to show the next morning. No one showed!. Funny as when we were checking in for our noted early arrival, which the room was not ready, the agent told us, room was not not ready due to extra cleaning due to covid extra cleaning. At checkout, Tiffany was again working. She was very apologetic and gave us a $50.00 credit. Very nice but did not compensate for the uncleaniness and the ignoring of a follow up from anyone. I would not recommend this resort at all

This resort gave us a room directly above an active construction site. I’ve attached a photo of our “garden view.” You could hear the construction machines humming loudly nonstop from 10am until 7pm. Forget sleeping in or having a nap during the day. It was also impossible to enjoy the patio or watch tv with the constant loud rumbling in the background. When we asked the front desk if we could change rooms they told us there were no rooms available in the entire resort. That was a possibility but I found that hard to believe when the parking lot was over half empty. When my boyfriend asked for compensation instead, they offered an $80 discount initially. When I made a complaint, reception contacted the general manager and they were nice enough to compensate for 1/2 of the nights we spent there. They offered us early checkout as well. Definitely would have taken this offer but there was no nearby hotel availability for 1 night only so we were stuck. When I told the front desk that I would be writing a review on this resort, she replied “well you can write in your review that you were notified via email and there has been a prompt on the site for 3 months notifying you about the construction.” The prompt on the site says exactly “please be advised that our pool, hot tub, and change room facilities will be closed for renovation from sept 15 until oct 15. We apologize for any inconvenience this disruption may have on your travel plans and or your stay with us.” The email was written along the same lines. This implies they apologize that the pool area is not available. There’s a distinct difference between “the pool is under construction” and “your room will be situated next to an active construction site.” The front desk seemed to completely lack empathy for the situation. They also offered no housekeeping services during our stay because of “covid”. It felt like an excuse to cut costs since other hotels have no issue providing housekeeping services to guests during the pandemic. Additionally, the facility was very dated. The bed was uncomfortable. We could feel the springs in the mattress and the pillows were lumpy. We were in a newly renovated room (717A) but they had filled it with all the old furniture. Normally I wouldn’t bother to complain about something so small, however it was just another negative addition to the entire experience. The main concern was that they did not seem to value customer satisfaction That section of the resort should have been closed during construction. The experience was disappointing because my boyfriend had fond memories of this resort as a child. I would recommend going to any of the other nearby resorts instead if you are travelling to this area.

Totally agree with "Me from Canada." There is zero service here. They will not even collect the garbage or used towels, you have to take to the basement yourself. However, the room was very clean when we got here. The spa is not open either. Family friendly = lots of screaming kids right in front of the rentals. Pet friendly = lot of barking dogs. You can hear every door slam all the time and the bed is hard and noisy. Positives are the location with well cared for area and close to beach with sundeck. The in-room laundry and the jetted tub was good. Their ad states free parking but they charge a resort fee of $40. per stay supposedly for parking and wifi. Overall I do not know what I paid $254 per night for. Very poor value for the money. Would not stay again and would not recommend.

It looks as if the resort is being renovated. The room was beautiful. I loved the jetted tub and heated floors in the bathroom. I was surprised that they only provided paper cups and no plates, glasses or cutlery for the kitchenette. The resort was beautiful. We tried the outside hot tub, again nice setting and surroundings, but it was full of sand and dirt. It was loud on some of the nights, not the fault of the hotel. The room was to be cleaned every second day. The housekeeper left new towels on our bed, but also left garbage and did not clean anything. Also, I was also surprised that they charge a resort fee and was unaware at the time of booking and arrival. I will definitely visit the area again, but may choose a different resort. I heard that the resort is under new management, so I am hoping my review may encourage some changes. I will keep my eye on future reviews before making a return visit.

I’ve been a lot of places in this world and have stayed at plenty of hotels good and bad. This was by far one of the worst experiences I have ever had, The staff is extremely belligerent and disrespectful, The rooms are falling apart and the pipes are so old sinks fill up and toilets flood. This hotel sucks and I hope no one has to share this experience I’ve had. Super disappointed do better Pacific Shores.

I used to always stay at Pacific Shores Creekside Suites in a studio room once year for a couple of days getaway. I stopped staying there because of the Pickle Ball courts installed right outside the entryway doors to the Creekside Suites. Before the Pickle Ball courts, it was quiet and enjoyable, I even toyed with the idea of owning a suite - it was so relaxing and just enjoyable. My last stay there involved having to listen for hours to the kerpuck, kerpuck, kerpuck, kerpuck, kerpuck... coming from the courts. What a horrible noise if you are trying to relax or paint or read. That ruined it for me. Too bad, I really, really liked it there.

Dear Avac627, We’re sorry to hear your experience. The creek side suites are no longer part of pacific shores resort. It’s sold to private owners and you must have stayed in one of the owner’s suit through Airbnb or VRBO. Unfortunately it is out of our control to rectify the situation. The resort side suites are now the building next to the Resort Centre where the indoor pool is located. We hope you could book with us directly or there are several other buildings that are away from pickle ball court. Hope that helps. Sincerely, Guest Services

The resort is right on the bay. The bay is rocky not a nice sandy beach. But it is very interesting to walk around and look at the tide pools. For a sandy beach go to Parksville

Good Day, The Ferry leaves from Nanaimo at either the Duke Point Terminal or Departure Bay Terminal. it is best to view the times on their website as there may be sailing waits. If you would like a copy of the schedule please contact the resort or front desk directly and we can print you a copy of the schedule.

Our experience with RCI and Pacific Shores was pretty much a big disappointment (peruse my review of November, 2016, BEWARE OF YOUR SHARE). The Smoke & Water Restaurant was well worth a look, but certainly the only bright spot in our time there (we did not stay for the full visit). My wife and I would not repeat this mistake and in our opinion, it was a poorly planned exchange by the RCI programme.

If you have booked a studio and a 1 bedroom unit that would be considered a 2 bedroom unit by Pacific Shores. The units will be connected by a common door. The 1 bedroom unit would be complete and would have a kitchen in it and the studio would have a bedroom and bathroom with possibly a small fridge and microwave.

How did you make the reservation? Online booking site or Pacific Shores own site? Either way I would suggest calling P.S. directly quote your reservation number and ask about your preference. Us island folks are pretty accommodating...😎
