Whether you are traveling solo, on a romantic getaway or ready to hike the surrounding trails or explore the local beaches, Wild Renfrew Seaside cottages are an ideal place to stay. Located on the Renfrew public pier with a private beach and a fabulous view. I booked the new seaside viewpoint studio which as advertised had an amazing 180 degree view of the inlet. I spend many hours just watching the ocean mist and listening to the gentle sound of waves. The added bonus a hot tub on your balcony to soak in after a day of hiking or to simply relax and gaze at the stars. The room is large and well appointed with a large double rain shower, a small kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge, coffee pot, tea kettle, toaster and assorted dishes and cutlery for 2. This room is not for families which is nice as it quiet as there are only two of this room type and they are next to each other. The only downside which did not deter from stay experience but meant need to be prepared was due to the staffing shortage experienced throughout the province there was no place to eat out for breakfast. We were advised in advance so brought our breakfast supplies and snacks drinks etc with us. These rooms do not have a BBQ for cooking so your food source is limited to cold, microwaveable or toasted. There is a small local grocery available and gas station. The only downside is the families whose kids insist at yelling at each other on the beach in the morning. It kind of ruins the peaceful breakfast vibe but I put that down to parents who have no consideration for other guests and is not a fault of the resort. As that happens every where. I would definately recommend the viewpoint suites for a romantic getaway or a quiet retreat you really cannot beat the view.

Recently stayed at the seaside cottage for 2 nights and the stay was truly wonderful and enjoyable. Let's start with the good stuff:

1. Wonderful location: the 2 bedroom beachfront seaside cottages all have their private deck with amazing views of the ocean and mountain.
2. Renfrew pub on site has very good food. The menu is small and it's actually a good thing, meaning fresh ingredients. We had their risotto and it was actually one of the best ones we have ever had.
3. Designated parking is only steps to the cottages.
4. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The outside firepit is a very nice touch. Comfortable beds.
5. Close proximity to botanical beach.
6. Contactless check in and check out.
7. No cell service: a great place for cellphone detox. Wifi is free, but the connectivity is spotty.

Now the average:
1. Cleanliness: I give them a 7/10. The place looked clean, but when we wiped the table, coffee table, counter surfaces and parts of the floor, the wipes all turned black.
2. The placement of the big sofa by the window facing inside is a bit weird. It'll be significantly more desirable if the sofa is facing the window, that's where the beautiful view is.
3. Lack of privacy: some other guests came on to our deck a few times during our stay thinking that it was a public look out. Signs should be put up to tell guests that the decks are private. The decks are also very open you can see and hear them clearly when the other guests on their own deck.
4. Confusion when booked through third party website: i made the booking through booking.com and prepaid through them. I was asked to provide a credit card at check in and later found out that they have charged my credit card again for the room. It was rectified after exchanging some messages with them which was good. However it was probably the last thing I wanted to deal with right after a vacation.

Overall a very enjoyable time and would love to stay there again!

Spent a few days in one of the cottages that faced out onto the water. Had great view of the ocean from our own deck with a propane fire pit to keep the chill off. The cabins are duplex style and the deck is split in half with the other side. We had the luxury of having no neighbour sharing the other half of the duplex for a couple of days. The cabin is well appointed with all the necessities for warming up food with a microwave and fridge. We took our toaster oven up with up and an expresso machine so that we could have pizza and lasagna and lattes. We brought our own food up with us as the local store doesn't carry much and what they do have is expensive. We visited Botanical Beach one day and went to Avator Grove another day. We did another day trip to Sooke. It was a very pleasant vacation.

The staff was incredibly kind, helpful and attentive. They had absolutely no problem helping and seemed happy to provide me with the extra teas and coffees I asked for. However, the original email I got said that they would be using gloves when delivering items to your room and I didn’t see anyone with gloves. Although, I’m sure everyone was healthy using gloves that the resort said they were using but weren’t would’ve provided some peace of mind during a pandemic. My room was gorgeous and looked out into the ocean. I had two problems with my room. The first was there were sliding glass doors that faced the government wharf and people were constantly walking by and looking in. When I mentioned this to the staff she was deeply apologetic and tried to move me rooms but they were fully booked for the next several weeks. The second and biggest issue is upon entering my room, I looked around and opened the washroom door to check it out. It smelled so badly like URINE. I stayed there 2 nights and the urine smell lasted 1.5 days which really sucked because showers were very quick because of the smell. I was hoping to come back in the future, but the lingering strong urine smell may have me thinking otherwise.

Bailey, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate your honest feedback. Regarding our covid safety protocols our team has had many meetings to ensure we are all protecting ourselves, our guests and our community during our work and especially during our guest interactions. Distancing, masks and thorough hand washing are our most common practises as is hand sanitizer. We always use hand sanitizer when handling items our guests will also handle. We use plastic gloves when it is necessary, but as you can imagine these items end up in landfills and we are trying to be safe and strict with our policies while also being conscientious of the delicate environment in our remote area. We are sorry to hear your were not satisfied with the location of your cottage on the seaside dock, all of our windows including our sliding glass doors do have window coverings which can be used to have more privacy while you are in your cottage. In any case we are happy to know that our friendly team of staff tried their very best to accomodate you, although all of our accommodations were full. The last issue you mentioned in your cottage is something completely new to us, we do hope you also reported this to our guest services team during your stay so our maintenance team could assist with this. We are very sorry to hear the bathroom in your cottage had an unpleasant smell and we will be discussing this with our maintenance team to understand what the issue may have been and ensure it does not happen again. Again we truly thank you for your honest feedback, it's reviews like this that help us to improve the services we offer.

A special birthday was celebrated by a 2 family bubble sharing adjacent cottages on the sea side of the wharf in Port Renfrew. The cottages were clean and comfortable. We took along our own food for meals due to Covid, and adjusted our prep plans as there is a 4 burner + warmer stove top but no oven. This was not a problem. We also took along a small bbq for steaks. This facility is dog friendly which was important for our purposes. From here we hiked Avatar Grove and drove out to see Lonely Doug (fir tree). Contactless check in was welcome, and guest service staff proved responsive when we requested towels and more coffee.

We stayed in one of the Creekside cottages (Cottonwood Cottage), just a short way back from the Renfrew Pub. The cottage itself was super cozy and the decor was beautiful. Very rustic and very west coast. The kitchenette was well stocked and we loved that it had a full size fridge. The porch out front with a fire pit and some Adirondack Chairs was a nice touch. And there was a pull out couch/bed for our kiddos. BUT I went to get into bed the first night, and the fitted sheet was clearly too small for the bed. It came off the corners and underneath, I found a mattress cover that had brown stains all over it. I checked my husband's side and it was the same. I am not entirely sure why this wouldn't have been changed between guests, especially given the current pandemic status. Gross. Completely put me off and made me wonder what other shortcuts were taken when cleaning the cabin (judging by the bottom of our socks after walking around the cabin for a few hours, the floors were not cleaned well either). It may seem like such a small thing, but it made me feel quite uncomfortable, and I expected cleanliness for $250 a night. Unfortunately, this would likely stop us from recommending this place to others or re-booking in the future.

We had a nicely appointed cottage with a good view of the strait of Juan de Fuca at the end of the wharf. It was a great place to explore this side of the Island. Our stay could have been better if we were provided with advance warning that the cottage's wifi and television were out of order or even a note upon arrival. In addition, the unit was not so clean as we found used floss pick on the floor; the kitchen was not well equipped for the number of guests in the unit. Certainly we would understand and make arrangements to bring books, games and download things had we known so we weren't able to fully enjoy our stay and do the things we planned in the evenings. Staff didn't seem to know, said they would try to get a service person and later confirmed the service had been down for a few days prior to our arrival. Follow up was lacking and no apology. Be prepared for 5am wake up engine noises as this is a working wharf for fishing boats. The cottages along the rocky beach seem to provide a bit more privacy. The pub did a great job in following heath guidelines and the food was yummy.

Yvonne, thank you for taking the time to share your review. We really appreciate your honest feedback as receiving thorough feedback helps us to improve and enhance our services. First of all we would like to apologize that your cottage was not spotlessly clean when you arrived, there is no excuse for this and we will be discussing this with our team. We also apologize for the issues with the cable tv during your visit. Technology is a challenge for all of Port Renfrew, as our community does not have fibre optics available from any network service providers, this greatly affects the wifi and cable connections within our town. Our community has been trying to have telus extend fibre optic networks to our small coastal town for quite some time, and we are very hopeful that one day our endeavours towards this will be successful. In any case, we understand your disappointment and we are making changes on our website so that future guests are prepared to face slow wifi and occasional lack of cable connection in our town. Again, we thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

This truly is a West Coast setting at its finest, absolutely stunning views from the cozy clean cabins. The pros in my mind include (we stayed in Cabin #6, Beachfront 2 bedroom):

Incredible setting
Seamless no-contact check-in/out (best I have encountered during recent staycations)
Tree shade on deck all day long
Nice pine paneling throughout, fitting for the setting
Comfortable beds and linens
Propane fire bowl on deck
Great pub (left separate review) on site

The only disappointment, and purely a matter of taste, is an electric fireplace. That said, it is a fairly nice one and adds warmth to the living space.

The customer service here is second to none, if we had any issues whatsoever they were resolved quickly and comprehensively, really wonderful to see in today’s world.

Tips:

They mention a full kitchen on their website and specify “no oven” which I had overlooked, leave the casseroles at home :)
Septic prevents dishwashers, for a longer stay may want to bring paper plates.
If you want to spend a lot of time by the fire on the deck throw some cushions in the car, my guess is these are hard for resorts to maintain but make the outdoor experience much warmer.

We booked into the Seaside Viewpoint Studio and were glad we did. The "no contact" check in process was a breeze but we did have a problem getting into the room, perhaps better instructions would be helpful, plus there should be better signage showing the room numbers. We didn’t know which set of stairs to take. The studio was immaculate and well laid out with stunning views of the inlet. The room is large, well appointed with a large double rain shower, a small kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge, coffee pot, tea kettle, toaster and assorted dishes and cutlery. It has a private balcony with hot tub and gas fire pit, so peaceful and perfect for enjoying the sunset and/or a cup of coffee. The Renfrew Pub on site has good food, the deck has stunning views of the inlet. No cell service but Wifi was free, we didn’t have any connection issues. We would certainly recommend this place to others.

My wife and I spent four nights in one of the viewpoint studios in June. These units are brand new and have a private hot tub on the deck overlooking the ocean. From anywhere in the room you have incredible views of the ocean through the two sliding door windows which cover the entire wall. The room was well designed , the washroom with a two person walk in rain shower was a nice touch. The kitchenette was good, with a good sized mini fridge, toaster , microwave, coffee maker and kettle. The hot tub on the deck was the highlight, relaxing in the tub while watching seals playing in the ocean was so beautiful! The only thing I would suggest is to have a bbq outside like some of the other units. For the price of this room it would be nice to be able to cook your own meals. That said, the Renfrew Pub was very nice and had great food. Lastly, the staff were very friendly and helpful from guest services to the workers outside. I would also highly recommend the whale watching tour, absolutely amazing!! We had an amazing time here and would definitely come back when in the area. Thank you!!
