Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great stop for a toilet break and a cool drink. Queensland's smallest pub. there is a small shop if you need some food items or a cold drink. Great place to see Apostle birds while you rest from the drive.

I highly recommend this place, it is an Oasis in the middle of somewhere. The food was great and the beer cold.
It was great place for a break in driving to stay over whilst travelling. Pauline and Carly’s service was tremendous.

Had the pleasure of stopping in today and catching up with Pauline and Karley.

It’s been a while since I have stopped in and was met with huge smiles.

Best hot chips I’ve had in a long time.

Fuel prices were cheaper than on the main high way.

Toilet blocks are been recently renovated.

Grounds were looking fabulous!!

Unfortunately not a good experience.

The owner was brusque and unfriendly throughout. We did not feel at all welcome whilst camping overnight.

Appreciate they might have issues with people passing through using the facilities, but this could be addressed in various ways. Leaving no toilet paper and no soap in the toilets (and hot water only from the shower head) isn't acceptable when you've paid for camping.

We had dinner and the food was good. Otherwise I'd have rated lower.

The Lady at the counter was the most unfriendly person!!! Shouted when a dog was on the grass!! Put a sign up!!!! The answer for no paper in ladies' toilets was " someone must have pinched it with a drill!!! No soap/hand towels. Maybe got pinched with drill as well!!

I visited the Oasis Roadhouse earlier this month. I Found the staff helpful. While sitting enjoying my coffee another traveller came to where I was and told me it was the cleanest roadhouse they had visited.

We filled up here on our way from Kuranda to Charters Towers, the staff were friendly, we were greeted with a smile. The food and service was superb, we had hamburgers, the bread roll was fresh and crusty the meat patty was very juicy and flavoursome and the salad was crisp. It was the perfect hamburger. The outdoor seating was in the shade in a well watered garden. Thank you we will call again.

This is a bit of an oasis as it is located in the middle of nowhere.
We stopped here for a break in our road trip and enjoyed a rest as well as food and drink.
You are also able to get fuel here as well as some general stores.

I made the mistake of booking in yesterday 23rd Sept. Tired after driving Mt Isa-Hughenden-Lynd I paid $120 for a room without checking first. I was given a list of things to note and told where NOT to Park and where NOT to walk with the threat of being savaged by their dogs. I went to the room allocated D1 and there was no electricity. Walking back up to the kiosk along the dog free route I was told to wait while a knowledgeable staff member was summonsed. She told me the door needed to be closed before any electricity was available. Then she proceeded to lecture me from the list of do,s and don't,s. I told her I already read them and she made some insolent remark. Obviously she had been trained either by the constabulary or by Jetstar. Ok. Now we have power in this tiny cubicle but I must keep moving so the sensor doesn't switch the electricity off. About 8pm no water. Up the dog free route again and told to wait and someone would come and talk to me. Finally a grandmotherly type told me to go back to the room and she would check. Down she came, verified there was no water and took a torch out the back. Some time later I was informed that there was a "busted pipe" and it would be fixed. It was fixed about an hour later.
These are demountable rooms that Miners are PAID extra to stay in. The only redeeming factor was the room was clean. The downside was that they reeked of some noxious deodorant. Hospitality is not a word any of the staff there are familiar with. They all seem to have had charisma and personality bypasses. No excuses for remoteness as it is an easy 3 hour drive over sealed roads to the Atherton Tablelands then another hour to Cairns. I did not risk the food and drink.

Thank you for your feedback, we endeavour to provide our guests with an enjoyable experience so all comments are appreciated to help us improve our services. Our rooms are outfitted with energy saving sensors to prevent air conditioners etc using energy when the rooms are unoccupied, so long as the doors are closed and the room is occupied all power operates even when the occupants are sleeping, as is explained in our information pamphlets. We do have resident guard dogs which live within the owners premises so guests are not subject to random break and enters. I do apologise profusely for the burst water pipe on the night in question, not a particularly enjoyable situation for anyone involved especially the poor handyman under the building in the mud. I hope the remainder of your journey goes well and you are not soured by your unfortunate experience here.

Answer from Pauline R
Mt Garnet
Hi there, It is approximately 200km from the roadhouse to Porcupine Gorge; 100km of that distance is unsealed and for high clearance vehicles the driving time would be 2 and half hours comfortably. Hope this gives you enough information. Have a good trip. Pauline
