Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Location wise is this a perfect spot. Just behind the visitors center and not even two minutes to the nearest shops and cafes. This is the most positive point. We stayed two nights. Poor is the fact that it is allowed to smoke in front of the rooms and the smoke gets into the rooms. Our neighbors smoked in front of their room but that is next to the door of our room, Also when you sit outside this is very disturbing. Advise for the owner to keep the area in front of the rooms smoke free and create a smoking area at the parking lot. Also, a downfall is that there is no internet. Room could also need a good clean.

This place is in the Main Street so you can walk to any of the hotels for dinner and drinks. The room was a little smaller than expected with the combination shower/spa being in the actual room next to the bed. It’s quite a big step up into the shower so elderly people may struggle. Bed was comfy, heater worked well, parking area was safe. Value for money is very fairly good and the room was nice and clean over all. Probably could do with some glasses as we had to drink wine out of tea cups.

Filthy, and no apology from the remotely located host. I appreciate that this is budget, motel-style accommodation, but it should be clean, and the host should be responsible and helpful when someone lets her know about the state of the room. Expect: 1. Muddy (bloody?) handprints on the wall over the toilet 2. Dead ants on the top of the fridge (they'd drowned in whatever liquid was left on top of the fridge) 3. An unclean fridge 4. Dust everywhere Don't expect 1. The host Kerry to come out in response to a complaint 2. For her to confirm a time when the same ineffective cleaner will come out to have a second go. We evacuated and we're currently pushing booking.com for a refund

We emailed a booking for 2 nights. Told to ring when we got to the carpark. 3 calls and 25 minutes later we got a call just to say key was under the mat!!. The bed was this stupid 4 poster bed that engulfed the room. The bottom sheet was so small it lay on the mattress. One grubby cover. No spare blankets in the cupboard and it was really cold. The bed creaked everytime you moved. You smacked your knee everytime you got in or out of the bed. The toilet seat was like a man trap. When you lifted the seat up the lid and seat crashed down nearly taking off your fingers. Dusty throughout. Rusty rail holding up a grubby shower curtain. We stayed one night and were gone 7am the next day. Emailed to request for a refund but got ignored and fully charged..it would be my worst stay ever. Shoddy. Unprofessional and do not recommend at all.

Accommodation is a bit grubby for the price (no wifi available) and the kitchen and bathroom reeked of cleaning products (which obviously were not used properly) but when York is booked out you just take what you can get. Supply and demand is well and truly evident during the COVID even in a town as small as York.

I suggest that the owners of the Nosh and Nod watch a few episodes of the Hotel Inspector with Alex Polizzi to learn what basic cleanliness is when renting out rooms. I can put up with some dust if I must (very evident on the bedside tables) and even dirty grouting and mould in the shower, but can not cope with evidence of the previous occupant. There were hairs on the bathroom cabinet. The toilet had a paper wrapper on it to say it had been cleaned but still had poo stains from the previous person when I lifted the lid. The quilt cover had a wine stain in the corner and one of the pillows smelt of stail perfume- not fabric conditioner. The windows were filthy as were the taps and soap container. The chair was stained. Everything just felt unclean. The a/c was noisy and inefficient in terms of heating. I was glad I had a sleeping bag in the car which kept me warm, and clean. The label on the sheets- made in China polyester cotton sums up the quality of everything - poor and dirty. To top off the cold, dirty experience, there was no wifi. I could hear the conversation of the couple next to me through the wall and their tv. I was meant to stay two nights but was so glad to drive away after one. Turned out to be an expensive, bad experience. This is a family business and they really need to lift their game. I wish I had read the previous reviews all stating similar concerns re cleanliness and I would never have gone there. There are much better, cleaner options (with wifi) in York and I recommend that you consider them first.

I booked into the Nosh and Nod through booking.com and received a confirmation email. When I arrived, my friends, who were also staying there, asked if I had received a call about the location of the key. I had not, so I proceeded to call the number on the site. At this time the owner advised me they had moved me to the other nosh and nod. I explained I was on my own and wanted to stay where my friends were close and would prefer to stay at Avon st. She explained that I had been emailed these changes. After I hung up the phone, I checked my emails and the site I booked through and I had not received any correspondence, nor had I received a call. I then called back to see is they could accommodate me at Avon st, as I was on own and didn’t want to be further away from my friends. The owner was very rude and not willing to find a solution or assist me. I was made to feel like it was an inconvenience to be of service and I was offered a refund. I chose to take the refund and stay elsewhere. York is a very small town and as I was visiting locals it was no surprise to hear that it was usual practice for Nosh and Nod to move people from one property to another.

Excellent help and communication with Kerry the owner. I mentioned in passing my husband with hip replacement unable to climb stairs and she located us into a Disability room. We were in the Howick Street complex. Room was fully equipped as you would expect a Studio room. Clean, comfy and cosy. For the budget price we could not have been happier. Thank you Kerry

Disappointed overall with Nosh and Nod on Howick St. Fairly basic room offered on arrival although clean and tidy. No kitchenette as advertised unless you can call a small fridge, kettle, toaster and tray, a kitchenette. Double bed surrounded by a ridiculous four-poster wooden frame which only served to make the room look smaller and sharp edges didn't help safe navigation. Bathroom fine and shower good. Other guests in complex were noticeable without being intrusive but noisy guests could be a problem for those wanting a peaceful room. Good communication from Kerry, the owner who directed us to the pub next door where the keys for entry were held. No reception on our site. As a stay for one night, it was acceptable if not slightly overpriced.

From making the booking to checking out, easy no fuss experience. Great room with a spa bath, this place was exactly as advertised. Central quiet location, would highly recommend. I stayed in the Lily room, everything you need to relax for a couple of days (or more)
