The original section of this beautiful Heritage Colonial hotel was built in 1845 and has seen a vast businesses operations within its walls. If those walls could talk they would surely have many a story given that it was originally one of the en-route stops to the goldfields in the gold rush days. Accommodation varies from modern early 2000's construction to the Heritage style rooms situated in our rear courtyard offering a lovely sense of yesteryear comfort. The new owners opened the restaurant areas in late Oct/Nov 2015 and offer quality value for money meals in a beautiful and unique atmosphere, complete with air-conditioning in the summer and warm, inviting open fireplace in the winter. Various weekend entertainment is held most weekends for the enjoyment of our guests and townspeople alike. The Historic York town is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway or family trip. Given that we are only about 1 hours drive from Perth, Settlers House York is the perfect place for your stay or take the short drive for a weekend lunch in our shady courtyard. We look forward to seeing you "settle in at Settlers"...

Detailed Reviews
We stayed two nights at Settlers house as a weekend away for us as a couple. We arrived late on Saturday afternoon, and the check in was no fuss and very welcoming. The room was nice. Very clean. It has an doors on either side. If you are lucky you can snag a car park alongside the french doors, but if you can't, there is a substantial carpark next door, we didn't have to walk more than 50m to our car. The location is excellent. It is right in the middle of town, with easy access to the main street and also behind to the Catholic Church and a nice walk to the Mill via the back streets. We were able to walk everywhere in town from this location. We came mid winter and it is cold. There is a reverse cycle system, but it struggles a bit with the room, so we were a little cold. The bed's are a little firm. There was a huge deep bath which was lovely, and some nice toiletries. We found the staff to be very friendly in all our interactions with them. We had dinner in the tavern area on the second night which was lovely. It was very cozy with the open fires, there was a TV with the footy on and the food was quite nice (generous serves). The rooms are equipped with usual motel supplies such as instant coffee, tea and milk etc. This hotel is a no fuss option which allows you the freedom to explore York on foot, and have access to all the services that the middle of town provide. Due to Covid there was no breakfast service which would have been an extra bonus, but it didn't ruin our experience. Overall a good choice if you want to be close to the action.

I’ve stayed here for work lots in the past.
And it’s always been hit and miss depending what room you get on arrival.
When you book your stay request the heritage rooms, as the ones they have on the other side the 2 storey ones are in need of renovations, rusty shower heads, loose taps filthy bathrooms. Also windows don’t lock no wifi , half a toilet roll for 4 days is a joke , cleaners only come in once in the 4 days and at $190 a night there way overpriced.there’s newer places in town for cheaper than what these guys charge .

Regrettably, due to the government imposed Corona Virus closures the yard is not looking the best. Cigarette butts, old food scraps, takeaway and drink containers all over the yard and a glass topped table we would have enjoyed eating lunch at was filthy. I guess that during the closure they haven't used the yard cleaner as much.
Our room was clean, but only one of the three lights in our room worked. We were assured that the two lights not working would be fixed within hours and they were. It made a great difference.
BTW, the free welcome drink on arrival that was offered wasn't offered.
They don't have WiFi and rooms aren't serviced during your stay. It was a pity we weren't informed on booking or arrival.
We had a ground floor king heritage room. It was good enough and close to the car park. Unfortunately, it was also under a set of wooden steps and very close to the linen room. Very noisy in the mornings, with trollies rattling and the staff and early rising workers chatting. Don't book room 2.
There were no USB charging points in our room and a dearth of power points. If staying here I recommend bringing a power board.
The room included a microwave and toaster, which is handy as breakfasts aren't normally available, although, they did offer to help out. But there are a couple of cafes and an IGA close by.
Parking is at the side/ rear of the resort. It is in the open and not secured, but the area is quit safe.

Rooms very basic and outdated, no character at all, clean but not immaculate. Dinner in restaurant was one the worst cooked meals I’ve eaten, staff were nice and friendly and gave us another meal which was also awful. Had no towels to dry ourselves with after a bath (nice bath for one) used a hand towel the first night. God forbid you don’t wash, dry and put your dishes away otherwise you’ll be charged $20 extra wtf. This place has so much potential but is definitely in need of a revamp with some old character emphasising the history of the town. Great location. Would not stay here again.

We had the Christmas in July package, a queen room, 3 course dinner Sat night on 24th July, with the tribute show of Olivia Newton-John, Madonna and Abba.
Now none of these artists are in our music collection, but hey, a live gig at a country pub, so we went for it believing it would be a fun night and booked 3 rooms in advance with several other friends.
We were provided with all the info we needed beforehand by hosts/owners Brian and Elaine and arrived in time to have a drink, and a walk around town.
The rooms were clean and tidy, the reception from staff extremely welcoming and keen to meet any needs we had.
The dinner was good, the service excellent, and show a real hoot1 The two ladies performing really did a great job, got the crowd involved, singing, dancing and people getting up to bust some slippery moves on the cosy dance floor...including everyone from our table at the front!
A great show all up, then we moved out to the main pub area with its cosy fire thinking we'd have a quiet drink or two before heading to our rooms. No way, Guests, blow ins, staff and even host Elaine started belting out songs in a karaoke hit out! Everyone partied, sang, danced and had a "smile on their dial".
We enjoyed a hearty breakfast in the dining room the next morning , again good food, great service from staff who really did exude a genuine and happy service ethos. Rather than service staff, they seem to be one big happy family and it really shows. Many guests were a tad quieter at this point, confirming a great night, but we shared some funny stories across a few tables, including the effervescent lady who was nursing a bruised hand from her manic tambourine bashing on the dance floor the night before.
We intend booking again next year and hopefully bringing a few more friends!

My husband and I stayed for one night at Settlers. Check in was easy, we had a King suite in the courtyard which had good access and very quiet.
The bed was very comfortable and the room was adequate for the stay.
If you are having a stop over in York and looking for reasonable accommodation I would recommend Settlers.

Stayed overnight on a weekend. Arrived late as had to drive some distance so the resto was closed (we knew in advance). Room on ground floor was nice, beds OK, had a good slept. As Easter no breakfast (knew this in advance also) so went to a coffee shop
Room was nice, towels are nice (trust me we travel a lot and some owlets are threadbare - these were good) - this for us is a small little thing that tells us more about the hotel than the larger picture! As some 4/5 star chains have worse towels!
Easy check in and check out, friendly and no hassles. Car park at back close to the rooms, easy access and no issues
Would stay again if had to spend a night in York

Our stay at Settlers house was disappointing. The location is perfect right in the centre of town with privet parking.
Shame our room was infested with ants, I understand ants are hard to control but vacuuming the carpets would be a good place to start.
Our bed didn’t have a head board, which made me
Very uncomfortable knowing the level of bugs in the room.
I woke up groggy, needing a coffee I open the cupboard looking for the mugs and to my horror I see the ants have claimed the mugs and spoons, not the best start to my day, I have a shower, unable to remove shower head or lower shower head I have to wash my hair. Shame I couldn’t dry it though, no hair dryer provided which I thought was rather unfair untill my husband tried to get a shower and no more than a trickle came out, standing there in the nude in absolute despair how a paying customer cannot even enjoy the facilities they have paid for he tries the taps, no nothing not even a trickle in the tap. Did they shut the water off? Was the water pressure low ? Not a soul in sight to ask. Luckily the kettle had water in it from the previous guests so he tripped that into the sink and had a flannel wash.
We left, annoyed shocked and cold from wet hair and a shivering flannel wash.
Settlers house is a beautiful historic building with a lovely pub in the centre of it all, unfortunately the lack of care in the rooms for guests let me down.

Thought we would stay in historic accommodation for our visit to York and picked settlers top shelf room, "deluxe". Was in original building so historic I guess but room was definetly showing its vintage. It was a place to sleep but nothing special. My wife was put off my the wooden toilet seat, bit dated and definetly not hygenic. It was a Thursday night but bar and restaurant not open, COVID was the excuse so went elsewhere for meals and drinks. When we arrived at our room tere bags of laundry waiting to be taken away near the doorway, not a good look. When we left there were the domestics cleaning trolley parked right outside our door as if waiting for us to leave. Doubt I would stay again.
