The York Palace Hotel was built in 1909 and underwent extensive refurbishment of the rooms during the 2000s. The Hotel offers 5 large heritage rooms on the upper floor (no lift) in the historic hotel, and 14 new kingsize rooms with ensuites adjoining the original building. The Heritage rooms have the benefit of complimentary wifi though, NOT in the Terrace rooms. The spacious Lord Forrest Heritage room also has a spa for luxury stays. All the rooms have ensuite bathrooms with shower, TV, air conditioning, small fridge and tea & coffee making facilities. All rooms are spacious and light. There are several restaurants very close to service our guests. The restaurant / bar is now closed and due to nationwide staffing issues, there are no plans to re-open. The space now operates separate to the accommodation as an antique shop.

So impressed with the standard, comfort, location and cleanliness of our room (King terrace). Cherry on the top was the personal attention to our needs from Nola when booking. After being let down twice via air b&b, it was such a relief to talk to a professional who could manage our request for an overnight room on a busy night.

Large, clean rooms with nice outdoor area. It was a pleasure to do business with Nola who was very accommodating. A lovely town with lots to see, eg quirky little shops, yummy ice creams and loads of history. A great weekend was had by all our group of 10, who are all keen for a return visit.

I stayed in the Lord Forrest room. Beautiful heritage charm. A very large room with a huge bathroom. This room looks onto the lovely spacious Verandah. We sat here from mid afternoon to evening enjoying this charming town and a wonderful view to the hills. Everything was very clean and tidy. Everything you need for a luxury stay including a coffee machine which was a nice added touch. The bed was very comfortable, and a choice of pillows. The lovely owner Nola made us feel very welcome and made sure that we had everything that we needed. I enjoyed this stay so much that I've booked to go back again. A beautiful location in a very charming town. Xx

We arrived at our accommodation to find our fridge not working, rang the number provided from our online reservation and was told by Nola that she knew the fridge wasn’t working and that a new one was coming though she wouldn’t provide a time for arrival, or a solution to our problem of needing a fridge for our few perishables. Very rude woman, my husband spoke to her on the phone and asked her if she could provide a bucket with ice. No, she said. My husband thought he had finished the call and put the phone on the front seat of the car. Nola inadvertently heard me swearing on the still active phone call. Nola came straight out and approached me. “Are you the one who called me a blah blah blah” Yes I said but you must have overheard me when you were speaking to my husband. “You’re out” she says. We ended up staying at the Imperial Homestead a beautiful old historical hotel. Accomodation and service were wonderful. So was the food.

Response from Nola Bliss, Owner at The York Heritage Hotel & Terraces
Responded 30 Sept 2023
I have been waiting for this review. You left out that I told you the fridge was being obtained that day (Saturday) as I has sent someone from York to Canning Vale to collect it rather than delay for a delivery. There were no other rooms, I didn’t have ice but the bottle shop is next door. You asked what time it would arrive and I said I couldn’t say exactly but it would was imminent. Your tone was aggressive and I will not tolerate abusive behaviour to me or my staff. I am a hardworking small business owner, not a rude, fxxxxxing bxxxch.

Stayed two nights with my husband in this lovely country town. Hotel position really good, parking available and some nice country pubs a few minutes walk away. Room was big (we stayed in the terrace), very comfortable, bed great. Nice patio area to sit and have breakfast. Took a point off as no wifi, otherwise fantastic

The room was fresh, clean and comfortable. We sat out on the balcony and the view was lovely and private. Nola, (the owner) was friendly and helpful. We loved out stay and look forward to staying again.

I stayed the night at The York Hotel last night. Nola had sent me an extensive text message explaining how to find my key and my room. I was early and Nola texted me again to say I could use my room. I struggle a bit to understand instructions so I wandered in to what turned out to be their extraordinary antiques business. This strange friendly little fellow approached me and started chatting. To cut a long banter short, he was Tricky Dicky, the owner. At least he was part of the ownership team along with Nola, who is much more normal. I had the loveliest evening with them! They befriended me and helped me get my bearings. They invited me to their balcony and gave me beer and crisps that were only 6 months out of date. We chatted and laughed while their nutty dog barked at the locals frequenting the IPA opposite. Nola tried to have me stay for dinner but I was too tired. She gave me a plate and cutlery so that I didn't have to eat my sweet and sour takeaway with my grubby fingers. My Terrace room was immaculate and palatial compared to many I have sampled. I read some of the other reviews and they made me cross. It must be a nightmare running guest houses in rural Oz. Dicky and Nola were so absoltuely beautiful to me that I was moved to write something down. If I could give the place 6 stars I would. Not because it is the Ritz, but because Nola and Dicky were so wonderful and kind and that needs to be recognised. York Writing Festival was fun too but my memories will be for those 2 fabulius human beings and their bonkers dog. Go see for yourself. Thanks again you too. Made me proud to be a homo sapien.

Ground floor modern accommodation in the Terrace rooms, self check in, location and car parking at this hotel was excellent. Next time I visit I would love to stay in the Heritage rooms to get a sense of the history of the hotel. Saul, the manager was helpful and friendly. The bar and restaurant were no longer working however there were various eating establishments a very short walking distance around the corner in the main Street.

A wonderful place to rest, yes it’s old but very comfortable, close to shops and walking distance to cafes and pubs. You can walk around town and enjoy the sites. Unfortunately there is no restaurant but you are only a few minutes away from places to eat at. The owners are wonderful people and very helpful, we walked to Favesham House for breakfast which was well worth the money. Service was wonderful. We will definitely stay again when up this way. Thank you again

Rather old accommodation. Good comfortable bed. Stayed 2 nights no daily servicing. New vet clinic built across the road large floodlight shines in all night long. Did not sleep so good. I did not see any other cars in the carpark. I don't think to many people stay here. Terrible town for food
