Fantastic week of horse widing in amazing Kimbley countryside at the base of the Cockburn Ranges. Great horses, people, accomodation, and food. The "real"deal.
I was picked up from Kunununarra and returned at the end of the week. Travelling solo was easy and a chance to meet other guests easily. Highly recommend.

I've been there 2 times and it was always perfect. Digger"s rest offers you a total authentic Kimberley experience. Digger's rest is in the middle of a beautiful landscape . If you are a horse rider like me, you will love Digger's rest. There is no schedule to respect there. If you want to ride just ask and you will ride whatever it is the morning or the afternoon. When it comes to sleep I recommend the bush hut for a real bush experience. During the night you will have the visits of horses and Marilyn the Emu. The owner of the place are super friendly and authentic. I went there as an individual traveler but I recommend it also for couples ( ask the bush hut number 6 for a romantic experience...) and for families ( I recommend the bunkhouse if you have young kids). If you are not fan of resorts, hotels, you will love Digger's because everything there is real and authentic.

My week long stay at Digger's Rest was the best adventure of my travelling life to date.

I chose to visit Digger's because I love horse riding (I am just a beginner) and I wanted to explore some of the Kimberley. I was able to go riding every day, and I learnt a lot about how to handle and care for the horses.

I was travelling alone and I was welcomed into the Digger's crew lead by Alida and Roderick. I really valued the opportunity to spontaneously help out with bits and pieces around the farm including rounding up the horses in the morning. In fact I couldn't wait to get up and start each day (even though the cabin beds are pretty comfy).

This place has a unique energy. It fills you up with wonder and a childhood desire to explore and appreciate the natural world, as if for the first time.

Firstly, I am amazed at the audacious contribution by Wendy in July 2013.
Fair Dinkum ! This is a working cattle station in the Kimberley - Not the Sheraton Hotel.
My wife and I recently discovered Diggers Rest by accident when visiting the nearby Boab tree.
It was late afternoon when we ventured through the front gate and approached the farmhouse.
We were met by a jovial fella by the name of "Bogga" ( an ex-underground miner apparently).
The Owners were away on a trail ride.
After setting up our camper on a nice grassy area we commenced exploring - and were fascinated by the substantial and modern toilet block - big enough to host an army camp.
It seems we had fallen across the actual Station which had hosted all the crew to do with the film, AUSTRALIA.
Well that was it! - my wife was swooning over all the photos of Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman and we even found the Boab under which they kissed !!!!!
Just goes to show - if you take the time, to explore, be genuine you never know what you might find !
Thanks Bogga !

Traveling around The west on a six week holiday, and trying to arrange accommodation in advance, this station was the only one that didn't return a phone call, needless to say if that's the type of service they offer I probably didn't, miss to much

Response from DiggersRestStation, Owner at Digger's Rest Station
Responded 20 Feb 2014
We apologise for not having returned the phone call. We are a small business run by my husband and myself, so we do not have a receptionist or an office manager. Needless to say, our office is not a flawless set up. Hopefully, the next time we are given a second chance:)

I was in Australia for business and decided to take a week of holiday to see the outback. A friend of a friend told me about Digger's Rest station - what an amazing find! This is from a review I wrote elsewhere...

"I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Digger's Rest. I took part in the muster (May 2014). The accommodations were comfortable, the food was tasty and hearty, and the horses were well-mannered and soft. I met a fantastic group of people (Alida and Roderick, of course – but also all the stockmen, "woofers", photographers and other guests). And... the Kimberley is breathtaking! This was probably my best travel holiday ever."

This was a great way to live the dream! If you have ever wanted to join in a genuine cattle muster I would thorough recommend you give Alida and Roderick a call. Even though I have had a fair bit of riding experience and also had a bit of experience working with cattle, this was the first time on a station with cattle who are not handled much. The horses were great and we were given lots of encouragement to settle any first time nerves. If going on the muster, be prepared to be patient - there is a fair bit of holding of cattle to settle them before moving - but that is all just part of the experience. We rode out from the Station each day and enjoyed the spectacular scenery of the Cockburn Ranges. Yummy lunches were brought out to us and of course a fire was lite to cook the billy tea.

My friend and I stayed in one of the bunk rooms which were comfortable and the food was not fancy but perfect for the setting. I think I ate the best steak ever at Diggers. Home grown of course and cooked by the passing farrier (who just happens to also be a chef)! Then there was the freshly caught barramundi - sensational!

When we were not mustering Alida took us out on some great rides - the scenery changes at every turn. The billabong at sunset is a must.

I am not sure if it is the people or the place (probably both) but Digger's Rest and the Kimberley have me hooked - I will be back.

I have just returned from a wonderful week at Digger's rest Station in the Kimberley. I was participating in a photo safari run by Rachel and Andrew of "On The Verandah" http://www.ontheverandah.com.au/. This enterprising couple are working with Digger's Rest and will be offering workshops on such diverse subjects as Bush cooking, song writing (Rachel is an established country singer) plus art and photography workshops. Each workshop will have a tutor/mentor and the photographer for our workshop was Bewley Shaylor.

I could wax lyrical in a huge post but will try and keep it simple. Digger's rest offer comfortable accommodation in either bunk rooms or bush huts. I chose the bush hut which offered views of the stars and the enjoyment of the night sounds. How wonderful to hear a dingo plus all the birds, cattle etc.

Do not go to Digger's rest if you plan to lose weight. The meals are yum and very substantial. You will not starve. Far from it.

Owners Alida and Roderick are very welcoming and you feel as if you are a part of their family.

The stunning scenery was perfect for a keen photographer. How wonderful to enjoy a part of the Kimberley that is not on the standard tourist route. Lovely that the other parts of the Kimberley are it was wonderful to capture images of the station, stockman, billabongs and so much more that are not seen by most people. When word gets out I am sure it will change. Bewley was a great tutor and he along with Andrew and Rachel went out of their way to provide the best opportunities for great photographs. We also had the opportunity to travel off the station to nearby scenic locations such as Parry's Lagoon, Wyndham and to view rock art.

The wonderful thing about Digger's rest is that it offers so much. I was travelling solo but enjoyed the security of a group. If you have a partner who doesn't want to participate in the workshops there is so much to keep them entertained. Walking around the station leads you to many hidden gems. There is horse riding and Barramundi fishing (heaven is fresh caught barramundi which we were so lucky to enjoy).

I hope to return in the future as I feel I have only scraped the surface of this wonderful part of the world. Of course you don't have to be a workshop participant to enjoy the unique Digger's Rest. They offer accommodation, camp sites and also you can arrange to join in the meals on offer.

We stayed 4 nights. Could have stayed indefinitely. Plenty to see and do on your own if you have a sense of adventure. Great company, wholesome and healthy food and opportunity to be a part of the real homestead day to day activities. If you want a horse riding experience, this is a place to die for!

Have just completed a 7 day horse treks with Alida and Roderick. From the moment we were collected in Kununurra to the time we left, we were so thoroughly well looked after. The horses are superb, lovely natures and soft mouths, a joy to ride. Alida, an absolute delight, cooked up a storm that was so delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Loved sitting round the camp fire every night listening to Roderick's wonderful stories of life in the Kimberly's.....he's a legend!!! There wasn't anything I didn't love about this trip and hopefully will go back before too long!!!
