Wow what a change since I lived here in 1979 and worked as hotel receptionist. Loved reminiscing and admiring the change and development of this “once a farming town only”. Lots to see and do. Friendly town and community, more shops, tourists passing through, like me, a lovely tidy town and great place to stop for a coffee or stretch.

I didn't stay at the hotel part but did go down to the pub for dinner and drinks. The meal was great really tasty and value for what you get was exceptional. You don't leave hungry that's for sure. Drinks were a bit over priced I thought for a country pub. Service was ok a bit slow getting served even when you were the only one at the bar and then took a while to get your drinks too. Would be nice if they has free music playing instead of paying $2 for 3 songs on the juke box. Ended up spending alot of money on having some music on. Otherwise is a cute little country pub !

The motel accommodation, attached the the hotel, is actually beyond the point of needing to be totally refurbished, and is at the stage of needing to be demolished. The mattress was dreadful, there was a massive whole in the wall behind the grossly stained toilet, the curtains were self-shredding with age .... the list goes on. The lack of internet in both the hotel and motel was totally unexpected, and a major issue. Without doubt the worst accommodation I've had anywhere, and I work rurally across Western Australia.

We stayed in the motel annex to this hotel at the rather exhorbitant cost of 110$ a night for what was the most shabby and run down of facilities. The bathroom was in a state of disrepair ,rust and mould evident. The notice about mice invasion that appeared to be a problem in the room as well.did little to help the run down bedroom section.Cables hanging off wall to the appliances etcUnfortunately the policy of this hotel is prepay so one is caught. It is a pity because Wongan Hills is a pretty town with nice attractions but is certainly let down by its poor standard of its accomodation facilities

We drove from Perth to Wongan Hills Hotel and not quite sure to expect. We arrived late afternoon and were very impressed with the friendly staff and the food was exceptional. Could not stop eating the Arancini Rice Balls, well done. The hotel had decorated the function room beautifully.
Everyone had an excellent night.

We were assured the pizza was good...so it was ordered!

Wanted the works... Not hard! Don't know what I got... But it was covered in cheese and nasty crust.

$60 later....

😭

Don't go here for a meal....

Motel consists of a row of suites built alongside the pub, probably in the 1960s. Rooms generally cater to travelling workmen and have a bunks alongside the double bed. Furniture was fairly modern and beds were comfortable. Bathroom a little tired but perfectly functional. Air-con appears to be a fairly recent addition and worked fine
Not particularly cheap but price reflects lack of competition. I didn't visit the pub or it's dining room but appeared to be fairly well patronised, which is always a good sign

The Wongan Hills Hotel has both hotel and motel rooms. I stayed in the motel, primarily because I wanted an ensuite.
The room itself was tidy and very clean, and freshly painted. It really is a 2.5 star place, and doesn't try to be anything but. There are only about 8 rooms, and is next to the Hotel.
The facilities were good enough, the shower was excellent, though the decor was vintage. However, being clean was all I needed.
The only downsides were that the mattress was very old and worn out, so barely passable; and being next to a pub on a Friday night meant the noise was expected and did arrive. Though it quietened down relatively early in the evening.
Given the very limited options, it is good value at $110 per night. The bar food was passable, and the servings were huge, though the prices were typical WA, astronomical for what you get.
The bakery down the road does an excellent line in cakes, breads and pastries if you don't want to eat at the pub cafe.

Wongan Hills is a great place and town to visit for the weekend, there is so much to do if you like the outdoors.

The Wongan Hills hotel, has great meals, and the accommodation is basic but a real step back in time. So if you like an old Art Deco original pub with great meals, and great service - with a smile, go try it for the weekend. We cannot speak highly enough of the owner, staff and the pub itself, well done to all that work there, you can see that a lot hard work has been done to make it comfortable for guests. Not sure about the winter, I didn't see a heater in the room. Bed was great, loved sitting out on the wide verandah at night, and the large bathroom across the hall. Would highly recommend.
