Detailed Reviews
Riverside Hotel also offers onsite accommodation. Rooms are not in the same building as the restaurant but small modular homes at the back. Affordable price, good location close to the city centre and you can eat in their restaurant - apparently we struggled to find a place to eat at in the evening so it turned out we made a very good choice after all!
Rooms are tiny and very basic, have TV, desk with chair, tiny bathroom, glass door (no window), a microwave, fridge, kettle and the aircon which worked fine.
It was Ok for us as we only stayed overnight to see the ballooning championships next morning.
They close the gates at night for security (you have the key if you need to open them) and you can access their breakfast room through the side door with tea/coffee/milk, juice, muesli, toasts and spreads.

We wanted somewhere to bed down when visiting the area and the price looked cheap. They told us there was a show on the night we were staying but that it was "out the back" so we wouldn't be bothered by it. I specifically asked if we would be able to sleep before it finished at midnight and was told yes.
We got there and were given our room key - to the dongers, out the back! They were only 20m from the speakers and the racket (strippers with a shouting MC) went on until 1am (after which there was just the noise of the crowd as they left.
The dongers were old, stuff was broken, and overall we greatly regretted the decision and the dishonesty of the staff.
It would have been MUCH better to stay in York or Toodjay which are far nicer towns anyway.

A run down donga (this was supposed to be a deluxe room), things not working, no privacy from the people next door, noisy, not clean, very very small. Hotel meals were good and the hotel is lovely but the accommodation is very poor and dont think i have every stayed at a worse place

I was allocated a room in the donga at the rear of the property. The door wouldn't secure and the young waitress said that the owner wouldn't be there until later that evening to assist so I took my belongings out of the room while I went out for a meal. It was late when I got back so went into the room and latched it as best I could. On exploring I found that there was a large gap in the bathroom floor - an actual hole that had been covered up with a mat. The shower base creaked alarmingly and had a significant dip in it. I stood in one corner of the shower while hastily finishing what I needed to do. The light switch was missing the faceplate surrounding it, and there were cobwebs (complete with daddy long leg spiders) above the bed. The previous guests (or the ones before that, or before that??) had left a small pile of unwashed children's clothing in the cupboard. I kindly left them for future guests. I now stay in York when I visit the area for work.

Decided to have lunch and celebrate my sisters birthday.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was well prepared and presented.
The drinks were cold and the choice of beer and wine was quite good.
The dining room was very comfortable.
The meals were well priced and very substantial and tasty.
Will definitely return.

I get that accommodation was lacking in Northam due to all the building works going on....but I didn't expect to be put into a room that felt like I was in prison. Single bed with legs rusting...a mattress it was so hard I ached each morning. I brought my own pillow but went out to buy a doona as I wasn't sleeping underneath. Room smelled so air freshener was bought...one thin towel so bought a few ... glad I did that one never was replaced. Toilet was clean...but they never mopped the floor....not sure about the shower...at least the water was hot. Having a cuppa and using the kettle it tasted foul so that was my first and last one I had there. The price my company paid for not only my stay but the other person that came up with me was a rip-off. Bypass this one....oh and I heard ppl raving about the food...sadly it was not the case.

Good luck to those that stay here. This would have to be one of the worst places i have stayed at and I have been to a few horrible places.
Upon arrived there where around 4-5 men sitting outside the rooms drinking and most words coming out of there mouths were swear words.
The room... well what can I say dirty comes to mind. We were to afraid to sleep in the sheets and slept on top of the beds. They were kind enough to leave out of date milk in the fridge so was unable to have a cuppa.
We only got a few hours sleep with the pub guests still leaving at midnight to the very loud workmen next door room starting there trucks up at 5.30am. Every time someone would leave there room there door sliding was enough to wake the dead. I was lucky enough to have a bed next to the next room bathroom so all I could hear was their tap dripping through the wall.
Yes I do understand that this is a old place to stay but i would not expect to pay the price we payed for what we got.
So if you want a sleepless night a shower in the morning that is so dirty it makes you want to be sick this is the place to stay!

Great service, friendly staff and food was A1, good location, quaint old building, close to the Avon river, walking distance to shops etc. Would suggest that you book early for weekend stays and big events.

i joined tripadvisor just so i could warn anyone that might consider this. apart from the 40 yr old mattress that had protruding springs and flat pillow, this included my friends bed, it was warm but there was no sleep here, there is a flour mill right next to it and it is so loud it drowned out the rattling heaters in the rooms. the mill is literally within 20 feet of the shed we were put in outside the hotel and trucks were reversing in with their warning beeps every 15 minutes. i couldn't have dreamed up a worse experience. the room smelt and i couldn't believe the water bottle in the fridge was covered in dust like it had never been washed only filled - i didn't drink out of it. we took off the sheets to see a very yellow lumpy warped mattress from the dark ages.
