We had a wonderful overnight stay at the beautifully restored Farmers’ Home hotel. Greeted by Rod on arrival who happily told us about the renovation process and led us to our room.
The room was perfect. Lovely and clean nice modern fixtures including the tiniest fridge that was perfect for our needs. Highlight was the toilet separate to the bathroom not often seen in a hotel but a necessity! Room comes equipped with USB wall charging points fancy lighting system and giant tv. The bed was huge and like a warm hug! Extra towels and hot water are available in a little shared pantry area which is a great idea to reduce clean up!
We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar which has an excellent selection including wines on tap! Great selection of WA wines something for all tastes.
This was the perfect place to stay and well located for the hot air ballooning.

This is a welcoming comfortable beautifully renovated hotel with spacious rooms. Our bathroom had Aesop toiletries, a lovely rain shower and fluffy towels. The bed was very comfortable and we had a private balcony with steps down to an alfresco area. A lovely touch is the booklets provided in the room which provide plenty of information about the renovation and trips in the area. The Dome serves the usual but it is a large cafe with comfortable seating. Comfort seems to be a theme in this review! We enjoyed eating in the Temperance Bar, the food is very good and there is a wide selection of wine by the bottle, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. We enjoyed walking by the Avon river and our visit to the Bilya Koort Boodja centre. The manager, Rod, is solicitous and helpful. Housekeeping and Bar staff are inexperienced but receiving training

We came for just one night as we were doing the Hot Air Ballooning the next morning and thought it would be much easier than doing a very early morning drive from Perth.
It’s a beautiful hotel and without doubt the nicest Hotel in Northam. I would stay again and the rooms were nice but not luxury. It could do with a proper fridge and tea and coffee making facilities to make it feel more of a higher class hotel. Rod the Manager who did our check in was lovely and very friendly and we could have checked in from 1 as the room was ready earlier.
We didn’t use the Dome so I can’t comment on that, but we did use the Temperance Bar and it had an extensive drinks menu although the first bottle of Wine we ordered was unavailable. What really let it down was probably the lack of training for the two young Girls working there. We ordered the Cheese Platter and when this was brought to us and I had to chase them up for side plates and cutlery. I then pointed out there was no Brie as advertised and when I pointed this out there was a lot of puzzled looks and then one of them went to check. She then came back with a very cold hard piece that was obviously straight out of the fridge and just plonked in front of us without so much as an apology. So my biggest criticism here was the staff are clearly lacking in training and this really stood out.
I’m sure when all these things are addressed this Hotel will be a great asset to the area, as it is a beautiful building, but it does need some fine tuning.

Dear 910michlan, Thank you so much for taking the time to share you thoughts on Farmers Home and I agree with all of your comments here both positive and constructive. I really appreciate you mentioning the design of the hotel, our service and even the offer of an early check in which we always try to do when possible. We are definitely on a journey with our great team and that does include training and furthering experience. We have some exciting events and training by some of our local suppliers and also greatly experienced fellow hospitality professionals, as we look to expand our skills and knowledge. In our Temperance Bar, we have such an excellent selection of West Australian wines, beers, spirits and menu ingredients and we will compliment that with great local entertainment and of course not only an engaging team, but a skilled one as well. Thanks again for your thoughts and watch this space. Best Regards, Rod Black General Manager

Make sure you are not being allocated room 105 ! This room has no windows ! It has a en-suite bathroom with a tiny window over the toilet looking at a tin roof .
It is a room for the disabled . Which begs the question why do the disabled have the worst room in the Hotel . The room has opaque glass panel’s and door that divides the room and en-suite .so when you lay on the bed all you see is the bathroom and toilet . The only source of natural light comes from a sky light .
I am not disabled but would be saddened by my room if I was .
On the booking .com web site there are 8 beautiful rooms photographed, all with windows of some description at the same price point of 298.Aus dollars . The hotel was very empty as to be expected mid week. Unfortunately on arrival I had beginning of a migraine so I didn’t have the energy to dispute the room.
Later we went to the Bar for a drink ,once again disappointment . I ordered a caprioska ,which should be full of muddled lime and mint . I watched the bartender put one skinny wedge of lime and Two mint leaves and muddle . Never tasted anything quite like it and when I said it should be full of limes and mint I had a extra lime wedge dropped in. The drink was left on the bar and we proceeded to dinner at The Dome .our choices for dinner were limited as it was 8 at night and all other restaurants closed early .
The Dome is a huge cafeteria like ,self serve restaurant with tasteless cafeteria quality re heated food .
We were doing a trial run for a destination for big birthday celebration for a big group of friends . Sad to say we won’t be selecting Farmers Stay .

Dear Z8504NDjulies, Obviously we are greatly disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us here at Farmer's Home Hotel. Please rest assured that we use all of our reviews both positive and critical with our team, so we can learn and improve from them. We do apologise sincerely for your experience. I do disagree with some of your comments and especially regarding our Dome Cafe. We are very proud of the Cafe's design and ambience, situated overlooking the Avon River parkland. Our food and menu is over 90% Western Australian product, cooked to order and certainly not tasteless and reheated. I would say that our menu offering is very well thought out, generous, comfort and country food. It would have been really beneficial to get your feedback during your stay so we could have had the opportunity to improve your experience with us and of course I am still more than happy to discuss your experience with us directly. Regards, Rod Black General Manager

We found the room very loud from some random music super early in the morning and people walking by on the wooden floors outside the room. The room lacked basic amenities like a coffee machine and decent size fridge. However the bed was really comfy. On our 2nd day our room was freezing and the air con control would not stay on our desired temperature, we had to call someone to fix it. Housekeeping really need more training in the basics as none of our bins were emptied and we had no toilet roll in the bathroom when the room was serviced on day 2. The food at the Temperence bar was awful and service extremely underwhelming.
We did contact the hotel to provide our feedback and received no response, after a week I followed up again and finally heard back from the GM. When I replied to him... again no response, so I feel that is super poor management. I'm expecting him to reply to this with some sort of retaliation!

My husband and I recently returned to the tastefully restored Farmers Home Hotel. When I say that it's the little things that count, this lovely team contacts you during the day, leading up to your stay to find out what time you are checking in. Not only that they also provide you with ALL the check-in options in the same message. Genius! So many places don't do that next step of thinking. What was also very touching was the little welcome note recognising that we had visited before. But the most appreciated gesture was the later check-out time given knowing we would need to shower after our hot air ballooning adventure. See review in Things to Do. Highly recommended the Farmers Home Hotel and resident DOME.

Absolutely beautifully renovated hotel. The building exudes style and the thought that has been put in to executing the design and lay out whilst still paying homage to its history is outstanding.
We cozied in on a Sunday afternoon and stayed in the farmhouse room which was huge, very clean and the stained glass window was so beautiful. A full range of Aesop made it just that bit extra!
We headed to the temperance bar for drinks and dinner and we’re blown away by the selection of wine and spirits, a carefully curated WA wine list and the food was spot on!
I would highly recommend heading to Northam if nothing else but to check out this place, perfect little getaway, we will be back :)

Beautifully done hotel with consideration of design and attention to detail all while in keeping with heritage features.
We stayed in the deluxe 23m2 room which was very spacious with a large comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Light switches with various options including mood and a small well branded box containing books of information like day trip tips, a map, history of the hotel and the bar menu.
The bar was quirky and modern in a 1900s style with a good list of tap wine, beers and cocktails and you can order small tapas style plates from in there or order larger meals at the Dome attached on their late menu.
All in all a lovely stay in a small town.

Stayed last night with a group of Mum friends. The perfect spot for a quick getaway weekend. We commenced with champagne and cheese sitting on the lovely upstairs balcony, wandered down the road to Laura’s bar for drinks, strolled through the evening market and returned to the hotel for yummy tapas at the Temperance Bar. The rooms themselves are very nicely appointed. Thoroughly enjoyed sharing with a friend in Room 109 with 2 bedrooms and my friend who selected room 107 enjoyed having a slightly bigger room all to herself. Breakfast was downstairs at Dome which had a pretty decent breakfast menu and coffee. All in all a very relaxing and much needed getaway.

We really wanted to like this Hotel, with its lovely decor, gorgeous bathroom, big bed, clean and Aesop products. A valet room where you could help yourself to more towels and blankets. But at $250 at night for a very small room we struggled to find its value.
There no kettle in the room so you have had to trapes down the coridor for a cup of tea or coffee, from the valet room then carry cups of hot tea back to your room juggle these when opening the door. Not so pleasant on a freezing winters night or morning either. My shower went cold half way through me shampooing my hair. Kept getting woken with motor/pump noises turning on and off outside the room. Woken again at 4am by trucks loading something next door. The Temperence Bar downstairs trys hard to be sophisticated, but comes off a bit gloomy and dull. Fire place down one end did nothing to warm the room or the atmosphere . We had to stand at the bar and wait for the bartender every single time. He was off out back somewhere. A second customer came in while I had finally placed my order and received my first drink the bar ender then proceded to take this customers order and served him before pouring my second drink. At 6:15pm we tried to order some food which is tapas small share type of food. They had run out of the cheese share plate and dukkah/bread. It was not busy. What we did order was expensive and pretty average, poorly presented. Dont waste your money. Check in with Rod was smooth and very good. What we did find strange was having to walk through Dome with all our bags etc to get to the reception desk. Getting out early in the morning meant going out the front then walking around the block to get to your car out back. Total pain. Checkout is at 10am. So if your hot air ballooning check out before.
