The Nenke family warmly welcome you to their newly constructed eco village on their family farm near the town of Kukerin, in the Dumbleyung Shire. You can stay in a one bedroom unit; one bedroom apartment or a two bedroom cottage. The apartments can sleep up to four adults and the cottages up to six (including the two day beds in the living area). Every room has un-interupted farm views from where you can enjoy glorious sunsets and study the stars at their best, without light pollution. All bedrooms are fitted out with either king size beds or king singles and every room has its own beautifully appointed bathroom. This is a century old working farm, growing wheat, barley, lupins, peas and yabbies. Today it is home of third, fourth and fifth generation family members. Being mindful of the importance of looking after the environment for future generations Mary's Farm Cottages have been designed as an eco friendly village. You will note solar panels that provide energy, the collection of all rainwater and the use of the grey water to subterraneously water the lawn! While you are staying visit their yabby farm, Cambinata Yabbies, five minutes down the road. Here cottage guests can tour the yabby establishment and 'shearing shed' function centre decorated with historic items. They can also purchase a selection of delicious gourmet products including farm fresh honey, pickled yabbies & abalone, dukkahs and olive oil as well as have a meal. Mary's Farm Cottages are a great place to stay when visiting the iconic Dumbleyung Lake, where Sir Donald Campbell broke the world water speed record in 1963 as well as do a day trip to famous Wave Rock. Guests are choosing the cottages as the perfect place to stop off on the way to Esperance or Albany

Mary’s farm cottages were highly recommended by friends as an ideal stopover between Perth and Esperance and they did not disappoint. Mary and Michael delivered a dinner of yabbies, salad, home made bread and dukkah to our door, as well as continental breakfast for the next morning. The landscape is beautiful and the rooms perfectly appointed. Mary took us on a tour of the farm the next morning. She is warm, inspiring and friendly. We were made to feel so very welcome. Highly recommended!

A very underwhelming stay at MFC. We chose this location as a midway stop between Albany and Perth, after a beautiful journey from Fremantle and the Margaret River. Photos promoting the property are outdated and far-too-glamorous for what you see. The room was reasonably well equipped despite the fact that it feels like you are left with the previous guests hair shampoo, conditioner and body soap!! Shortly after arrival at approximately 6pm, a woman (presumably housekeeping) bursts into our room, without knocking to collect the washing in the machine from the previous guest. She says, sorry I just need to grab the washing from the machine. Lucky I am wearing clothing, I am paying 200 dollars for the night and privilege. Shortly after a confused guest trying to count cabin numbers for her location opens the door, sees me, apologises genuinely. No harm done. At least you didn’t tell-me-off for closing the door to the dryer cupboard.

Response from Mary Nenke, Owner at Mary's Farm Cottages
Responded 30 Dec 2023
Firstly apologies for not responding sooner. Sadly your review was missed. Our team is very concerned that you did not enjoy your stay and are particularly concerned that one of our dedicated cleaners burst into your living room to take washing out of the machine. We have today implemented policies in our management to insure this does not occur again. Re the comment on the toiletries our cottages are designed to be eco friendly, with electricity supplied by solar energy, and all grey water recycled to water the lawns subterraneously. We deliberately chose to do away with individual unsustainable packaged toiletries and instead supply guests with normal size better quality shampoo and conditioner as well as liquid soap. Your comments have been discusses within our team and we will look for alternative containers.

The attention to detail was faultless. everything you need for a comfortable one night stay or a week with all mod cons with a full size refrigerator, washing machine, dryer etc. A stocked bar fridge and tv in the bedroom . Sitting outside for the sunset and the quiet with a glass of wine was very restful. The owners have invested heavily in a huge solar system incorporating their own battery system with a backup generator plus the grey water is used to reticulate the grassed area. A real investment in an eco environment. Congratulations, well done. Try the yabbies for dinner. Yumm! A visit to the Yabby farm is very informative and the owners have demonstrated their imagination and fortitude in developing the yabbies for local and international consumpton. The museum and shearing shed are also very interesting and worth a look.Mary is a marvel and a real dynamo. Why would you try and drive to Esperance in one hit. A stopover at Mary's is a no brainer and makes the trip far more enjoyable.

We had the one bedroom apartment room which was very spacious. The living area had two day-beds, a large coffee table, full sized kitchen with oven, stove top, microwave, dishwasher. Good quality glassware and crockery. Toaster & Kettle & full-sized fridge. Washing machine & dryer with powder provided. There was a lot of thought and attention to detail in putting the rooms together with cold water in the fridge, games in the cupboard, books & dvd’s. There was also a mini-bar in the room in case you wanted a snack or a drink – all your needs were anticipated. There was also an informative compendium put together with breakfast or meal options & suggested things to do in the area. The bedroom was large & spacious, with a comfortable large bed, good quality pillows with nice linen. Nice big flat screen television & a good air conditioner. Bathroom was large, bright & clean. Well ventilated, good water pressure, nice toiletries and large fluffy towels. Decent hair drier and ample lighting to put make-up on. Great shampoo. The cottages are very quiet & peaceful, where you can only hear the birds sing and at night make sure you look at the stars - amazing. The property had a nice quirky BBQ fitted in an old Ford car, a play area for children with plenty of room to run around, some tame animals - sheep and Lama that you can hand feed and walking trail. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Mary who was extremely nice and very accommodating and went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and happy with our stay. Great for a stop over or a place to stay if you would like to detach from the hustle & bustle of the city. We will be back. Thank you for a fabulous stay.

Stayed here late last year on our trip to the great south. I unfortunately had an online class that I needed reception and Mary was really helpful. We had a Telstra sim and Mary was on standby in case I could not get connected. The thing I loved most was the bed and the bedding. Everything was so soft and comfy. I had the best sleep ever and didn’t want to leave. Lovely views and would really like to return. Thank you Mary.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here on two occasions to Mary's Farm Cottages. The location is perfectly placed at the halfway mark between Esperance and Perth, conveniently just off the main highway. The location is wonderful - from your cottages you will have a view of expansive fields of crops and is a perfect place to simply unwind with a glass of local wine, whilst watching the Western Australian sun set. Mary was so accommodating of my requests, and communicated with me throughout my stay to ensure I was comfortable. The property itself is lovely to walk around as there is a short walk trail where I was able to take some fabulous pictures of the sunset over the fields. There are also some resident animals that you can feed. The rooms were quite clean and the beds comfortable. The only thing I would suggest is that you bring fly/mozzie repellant, as they are out in full force! It is so peaceful at night, the pure silence broken occasionally by the distant hum of a passing road train. There is quite strong 3G mobile reception here too with Telstra - for anyone who cannot live without their phones. I simply won't stay anywhere else now when making the long drive between Esperance and Perth.

My wife and I stayed for one night on the 6th of December 2020, the apartment in the wheatbelt was spotlessly clean and the harvesters were working the fields, we met Mary has we had pre booked a yabby meal shes a lovely lady and very welcoming, the meal was beautiful, that evening we sat outside under a wonderful starry night with a bottle or two of wine, absolutely stunning, don't expect internet connection just expect peace and quiet, we will definately be back Brian and Cheryl

I could merely post the photos of the sunset and that should be enough to get you to stop in at Mary’s Cottages. Great spot to break up a trip to Esperance and everything is perfect - location, cleanliness and comfy beds. Oh - there’s no internet which was also a blessing!!

Beautifully sited well equipped cottages with views over ripe wheat fields. Quite spectacular. Great service from the owners with lots of local information. The yabbie feast offered as an extra is simply the best. Locally made dukka, olive oil, and freshly made salad and bread delivered with local yabbies to the cottage was simple but superb. It showed how delicious yabbies can be.
