We are on the corner of Veal Street and Canning Blvde and only 200 metres from the cafe strip, restaurants and our beautiful beaches in the centre of town. We are on the edge of the renowned Fitzgerald River National Park where a world class new bitumen road takes you for a scenic drive along the Fitzgerald coast all the way to the Hamersley Inlet and Mt Barren. Hopetoun has some of the most beautiful and amazing beaches on the south coast of Western Australia. We can organise picnic hampers and advise the best location to enjoy a day at the beach. For the more adventurous we suggest climbing Mt Barren and taking in the awe inspiring views from the top. You wont be disappointed. Nor will you disappointed with the abundant flora and fauna of the Fitzgerald River National Park. We know all the details just ask Brenda or Lester. There are three or four fabulous restaurant cafes within close walking distance as we are in the Centre of Town, also note we very rarely require air conditioning because of Hopetoun's cool summer breezes; heating is available in room. We both Look Forward to seeing you.

Detailed Reviews
We (Two couples) stayed at the townhouse which is physically separate from the rest of the motel and Chalet Village. It has a stunning location and has been well designed so that the kitchen and Veranda are on the first floor with amazing views to the ocean. Kitchen was well equipped with a good size fridge and microwave. Adequate cutlery and glasses.
Two of the bedrooms are on the first floor, one with a queen and the other twin beds, and this location is probably better as it is much closer to the kitchen. The other bedroom is on the ground floor with the laundry.
The overnight price is certainly not cheap, and for the price you would probably expect a slightly higher quality in certain areas. For example, the carpet has numerous stains on it and really should be replaced. The other couple we were with also said their mattress was not great. Finally, although Hopetoun is a very safe place it would have been nice to be able to close the garage, but the garage door appears to be broken and must remain open.

We stayed here 3 years ago but chalets now look really tired and need upgrading. We paid extra for a chalet with a cooker but although the hob worked the oven did not and taps in the bathroom need new washers as drip constantly. We had chalet 7, do NOT park beneath the tree outside as it dripped sticky droplets all over the windscreen and even though we pointed it out to the manageress she claimed it did not happen. Wrong it dripped then over the back window so we had to move to the visitors car park!
Nice area though and excellent beach at end of road turning right from entrance.

Standard set up. Double and single bed in room.
Microwave, kettle, toaster supplied, but limited crockery.
The place needs to be spruced up, certainly outdated.
Removed bedcover to find stains underneath, so unsure of how often this would be washed.
Instructions for TV controls in room would have been helpful. Had to ask for assistance with this.
We had to change our reservation, due to the travel restrictions, but they were not very helpful, asking us to go back to the booking agent, who then said the type of room we booked was no longer available. In actual fact we could re-book, but had to pay a little more.

Wont stay here again and will tell you why.
Dont get me wrong, room decent size, modern, tidy, microwave , some crockery and cutlery.
But, I asked the somewhat reticent lady at reception if they provide utensils for the BBQ and a large plate, as no large plate in room.
Told no utensils, use knife and fork in room and offered small paper plates.
But what really peeved me, and I dont care what restrictions are placed when booking online but motel deducted money out of my credit card 1 week before arrival. I asked the same lady when did they deduct money and she said that morning, not so.
I understand deducting money that day, although I always prefer to pay by debit card and if no show they can always deduct money that night.
On my 25 day ride around the country only one other accommodation deducted from credit card, and that was that morning, not a week before, so lack of care and feeble response re use of BBQ and lying to me crosses Hopetoun Motel of my list.

Response from Warren Clark, General Manager at Hopetoun Motel & Chalet Village
Responded 20 Nov 2023
Sorry to see you did not enjoy your stay at the motel. I see you had a couple issues which I will address for you. From what I see is your booking would have been for the standard motel room, which does not have dinner plates, bowls ect. as we received to many online complaints about no kitchen sink to wash dishes (guests saying it is a health hazard). We was not able to install kitchen sinks so the dishes were removed. I will now address your complaint about the Payment. As your review is not under your true name is hard to see which online agent you booked through. Though you would have received a confirmation letter when you made your booking. On this letter it states one nights payment is taken at time of booking/reservation. We choose to take it 7 days prior to your arrival in case you cancel your booking. This is because of the 7 days cancellation policy and a refund takes up to 5 days to process back into your account. If you are staying more then 1 night the balance will be taken the morning of your arrival. Thank you.

We very much enjoyed our two day stay in this comfortable, quiet motel. Our 'classic studio' room was exceptionally well-equipped with a kitchenette (2 hot plates, microwave, large fridge, sink) enabling us to cook dinner both nights. A guest laundrette was an advantage, though more expensive than most we've encountered. Friendly and responsive staff.

This review relates to the two storey apartment with ocean views. Apartment no.7 is very tired and has had little maintenance. Think very carefully before booking this one. The large carpet stains on entry, passage and stairs are shocking. I see this has been pointed out before on this forum and nothing has changed. The coffee table which isnt that important has a blistered top from what appears to be cigarette burns. When the wind is strong (alot) the roof flashing on the eastside flaps and this drove us crazy sitting anywhere in the lounge or kitchen. The three small windows facing east on the upstairs bedroom do not close properly (need oil) so the wind from the east howls through them (more noise!). We stuffed shirts into the window gaps just to get a nights sleep. Near the kitchen stairwell there is a very sharp metal flooring corner that punctured my sons foot. He was very lucky and we used gaffa tape to cover for fear this could really hurt someone in the future. The electric stove top controls no longer has any on/off indicators or low/hi heat indicators. This is quite dangerous and annoying as you need to monitor closely to work out whether one direction is hotter or cooler. I will say one positive. When the hot water system failed, we advised management and their response was excellent. They had s plumber and sparky their to fix in real quick time.

Nice and neat chalet. Clean and well appointed room. Great to see ALL the channels on the tv. Shower was beautiful, excellent hot water temp and pressure. Room had microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. Bed was a bit too hard and pillows were lumpy, but we managed a fair nights sleep. Room could do with an air conditioner as the oil heater could be dangerous with kids around. Aka in all a reasonable place for a few nights in lovely Hopetoun.

This hotel charges all fees when WA Government imposes COVID 14 day quarantines on all travellers. So I suggest you avoid this hotel and stay at a hotel that guarantees a refund in the event of Government lockdowns. This form forces me to say when travelled, but I cannot answer this as WA Government prevents travel to WA due to COVID.

I would have chosen good over very good and average but not available.
A ground floor room, not so noise isolated from the neighbours (hence average) but still comfortable and equipped enough.
Nice trees around.
The lady at the reception answered all our questions.
Close to the town.
