when we arrived on friday december 8th According to the gentlement at the desk, there as still 1 room available because we had of c ourse made a booking. It was of course the most expensive 2 bedroom room! But we only had 1 double bed. And I had to clean the mirror in the bathroom before I could get in myself to see. When we left we saw that outside 1 room on that corridor the rest was still available. I think 329 aus dollars is a lot for what you get in return. And especially lying to the tourists! I think that's really terrible! We have already traveled to Australia for more than 12 times but we have never experienced anything like this.

The place is not obvious, only a very small sign by the roadside, perhaps due to the construction work on the new bridge next door. As a result the place was full of construction workers. The staff were friendly. The bar and restaurant were good. The room was old fashioned, a bit musty, and the aircon needed servicing or replacing. However, not sure there is anywhere better to stay in the area.

Hi luxtraveller88 Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback. You are right, we normally have huge signs indicating our location but they are currently not in use due to the large scale construction work going around the perimeters of our property. We will pass on all other feedback to the departments mentioned. Enjoy the rest of your travels.

I have nothing positive to say about our stay here. From the confusion of finding the temporary entrance, we were directed to powered sites, we were 3 caravans travelling together, only to find that there was no power. So we all had to move and test the post for power until we found working ones. The amenities were a disgrace, clearly they have not had a proper clean in some time. The washing machines had a weird smell. We chose not to use the facilities. The construction goes 24/7, right next door to the park, so good luck getting any sleep. We paid top dollar to stay in the poorest run park we have experienced. I am on my second lap around Oz and a free camp offers more than this place. Floods are devastating. I come from a flood ravaged region, and the recovery can be very slow, but there is no excuse for not cleaning, particularly when you are charging exorbitant prices. Also, a bit of communication would be nice. I phoned the Lodge days before our arrival and was not given prior warning about the conditions. Don't stay here if you can avoid it.

Hi Debandmark247 Thank you for the feedback. We acknowledge everything you have mentioned and can only offer our apologies. We have begun a Caravan revamp (originally slotted for early 2023 but got pushed back due to prioritizing flood repair) We hope you enjoyed better conditions on the rest of your travels.

Given how famous this place has become over the years, especially given the issues with the next door bridge, we eagerly made haste to get here (as you cannot book camping/caravan sites). Our first annoyance was at the terribly small road signage outside to direct people into the temporary entry point. (Do they not know Google adds an hour detour to enter from the wrong side?) the bridge has been out since Jan - more would be better. The same inside, no signage to direct you to reception, as it’s all facing the wrong way. Enjoy the many trailer caravans trying to reverse down the hill! I know a lot of it was under water, but the quality of the site is poor with cow poo everywhere and horrid facilities in the loos and showers. We literally didn’t use them at all for fear of catching something. Considering its location and status, I expected more! Finally, the diggers and construction work continues 24/7 regardless of who’s sleeping nearby. Enjoy!

Hi Rob27898 Thank you for your feedback. Yes, we are in the middle of a considerable construction zone at the moment and will be as excited as the next person when it all finishes. Unfortunately we cannot do much about the google detours (though an hour seems more than normal) As for the cow poo, we have local free range bulls that don't think of others very often - our apologies. In regards to the caravan park, this is an ongoing project and has recently been closed in order to have a much needed revamp. We hope you enjoy the rest of you travels.

Booked and paid a room for 2 adults and 2 kids months in advance, upon arrival asked if a room with a queen and a single would be suitable, despite 4 of us standing at the counter. No refund available, and stung us an extra $50 for a rollaway bed. Food at restaurant was good, but no tap beer and luke warm choices from the fridge. AC in the room reduced temperature from the ambient 39 degrees to about 32 degrees, simply not good enough for somewhere that charges top dollar.

Our Trip was booked months in advance. The payment was taken out 1 day prior to staying. In arrival there appeared to be some confusion. We booked for 2 adults and 2 children. The comments on the booking were 1 double and 2 singles if possible just so our kids didn’t have to sleep in the same bed. We were told that there were only 3 beds in the room and asked if that would be suitable! This wasn’t suitable so we were asked to pay $50 extra for a rollaway bed to be added to the room. When we objected and showed our booking and comments she offered to speak to the Manager whom hid out the back and let his team sort it out, GREAT LEADERSHIP! The conclusion was that they knew were had no other option but to pay the extra $50 with no where else to go and no refunds were on offer. It was explained to us that it is a booking system making the booking, not a human so no point of a comments section. Pathetic Management

The FR Lodge is a place to stay on the way to elsewhere and it answers that need more than adequately. The good: Our king bed room was clean, spacious, reasonably quiet and adequately comfortable. Everything expected was there and it mostly worked as expected. The bed was comfortable, the linens clean and we were each able to find a satisfactory pillow. The meals from the pub dining room were wholesome and tasty and the staff we encountered were helpful and willing. The not so good: the room décor is a bit spartan and you would be best advised to seek a room far away from the pub and constant thrum from the diesel generators. Our guest room sustained some eerie noises from the plumbing when in use – which thankfully did not persist overnight.

First $52.00 for unpowered campsite for a tent 3 x 3 mts. Then the men’s showers/toilets, urinal wasn’t working, tried 3 showers cubicles. 1st door wouldn’t lock. 2nd no hooks to hang clothes. 3rd shower head sprayed water horizontally not down. Wash basins look like 3rd world refugee camp. Plus no hot water. Dinner in the restaurant, my chicken parmigiana was dry and hard and burnt around the edges with chips on the small serving side. My partners curry was something left to be desired. Drinks weren’t cold either. In the morning someone starts up a pump on a truck 20 mts away to clean out dump point for an hour. You couldn’t get to the showers as the sprinklers were wetting the stairs and the front of the building.

Most of the staff are trying there best in what seem to be chaotic conditions (especially the bar), but it is overpriced and the Boab accommodation is very poor. Security is also a problem, again this is worse in the Boab area.

Hi peterA9165BV Thank you for your feedback. We agree, it is a little chaotic here at the moment however most of that is just general busy season - organized chaos with ebbs and flows just like any other busy bar. In regards to the security, we have the same issues as any other central Kimberley town (though are pleased to say everything has been quiet for months). Security measures are taken on the property to do what we can to alleviate any issues concerning guests. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in the Kimberley.

The Fitzroy Caravan Park Review: Stayed there May/June 2022, facilities a disgrace; dripping taps, dirty floors, mould in showers, locks of the many toilets not functioning, cracked tiles everywhere, cobwebs, steps to the amenities block have loose pavers, paint has been used to try and cover up the mess, urinal not functioning. Recognising the big flood his year, 2023, we visited at the same time this year, all of the above plus the dump point has no flushing water available, and obviously no maintenance on the facilities since then. There appears there has been little done at the van and camping sites. The few powered sites that are available are difficult to identify and have not been levelled. Dust is a problem with no obvious dust mitigation program. Having stayed in many parks this one with out a doubt is the most poorly maintained and dirty stop. I might add that the park itself originally is/was very well set out with plenty of shady sites available. The park is currently providing accommodation temporary housing for staff working on the new causeway and new bridge which must be generating income. We visited the bar and spent $24 for a beer and a glass of wine which was over the top. The meal while quite good, was again expensive. I might mention the staff were very welcoming and efficient. The park is owned by Leedal Pty Ltd is one of Western Australia’s leading Indigenous-owned organisations. The Trust operates two successful tourist businesses in Fitzroy Crossing, these being the Fitzroy River Lodge and the Crossing Inn. Leedal also owns and operates key town facilities such as the local IGA supermarket and the Fitzroy Crossing Post Office. It is obvious that the trust is not investing in the park, it is disgrace. Given the inherent security issues, the only reason anyone would sty there is that it is a convenient stop between Broome and Kunnanura. My recommendation is do not stay there unless you have to.

Hi 771badenl Thank you for your feedback. I will pass on your comments to the departments mentioned. Given that our property has just been through a natural disaster and has a large amount of machinery/workers/equipment on site to fix the damage it created, we would appreciate a little leeway with the state of the property. Plans to upgrade the property have now been put on hold as we try to adjust to the 'temporary' new normal of 2023.
