We booked a motel room and we were a little worried because we couldn’t find any online reviews about this type of accommodation. We were pleasantly surprised – our air conditioned room was spacious, well designed and clean. There was a flat screen TV, small but functional bathroom with nice toiletries and a comfortable bed. There’s a nice pool area in the middle of the complex and it’s possible to walk along a covered walkway to the reception/bar/restaurant area. The WiFi was surprisingly good too! The Lodge is outside the dodgy looking town area which is probably a good thing! It’s still very expensive and not good value for money, but at least you can see that some care and attention has gone into the rooms.
We ate at the restaurant and the meals were surprisingly good. Although they were a little expensive, they were tasty and the portions were generous.
Overall our stay at the Lodge was a pleasant experience and we were very impressed with the staff who were super friendly and helpful!
Note that there is a 1.2% surcharge for credit card payments so you might want to bring cash!

Although hotels and restaurants in the Kimberley are complaining about lack of available staff, the Lodge at Fitzroy Crossing has never looked better, The grounds are beautifully maintained, the public areas including reception, bars and restaurant are well presented. The rooms appear to have gone through a refresh since we last visited with new bedding and improved bathroom accessories. Staff are helpful and attentive. Well done!!!

Check in is definitely at 2:00PM!

Apart from the strict adherence to rules, the staff here are friendly and helpful.

Accommodation here is available in various styles, from tents, RV/Caravan sites, motel style units or other forms. This teip we stayed in a motel stule room. It had tea/coffee making facilities, a bar fridge, was air-conditioned (cooling only) and basic toiletries were provided.

Our room was clean, well lit and contemporary. Parking was underneath.

Meals were available in the restaurant or lounge bar, but food and beverages were not cheap.

Be very security conscious while here.

American Express cards are not accepted

Having stayed at Fitzroy River Lodge several times since 1989 I was interested in seeing how they have managed to keep the quality of previous visits. How disappointing !!!
Yes COVID has played a part but the camping facilities are the most expensive in the Kimberley and yet very basic. The ablutions are dated and dirty - the tiles in the shower are the same as my first home in the early 80's. The company apologised that the men's ablutions was under renovation so the Female block was Unisex ???
So why charge top $$$???
The previous lush grassed areas for camping was now almost unrecognisable with long grass.
The pool area - a request to shower before use - the shower cubicle has cracks and the shower head damaged. The toilet was almost unusable.
The gardens around the pool were full of weeds and unkempt .
It is obvious this place depends on tour buses and accommodation for contract workers for the majority of its business but as a previous "camping oasis" in the middle of the region it is sadly lacking.
Some small parks and family owned businesses are much cheaper and leave this place far behind in terms of quality.
A real disappointment .

First $52.00 for unpowered campsite for a tent 3 x 3 mts. Then the men’s showers/toilets, urinal wasn’t working, tried 3 showers cubicles. 1st door wouldn’t lock. 2nd no hooks to hang clothes. 3rd shower head sprayed water horizontally not down. Wash basins look like 3rd world refugee camp. Plus no hot water. Dinner in the restaurant, my chicken parmigiana was dry and hard and burnt around the edges with chips on the small serving side. My partners curry was something left to be desired. Drinks weren’t cold either. In the morning someone starts up a pump on a truck 20 mts away to clean out dump point for an hour. You couldn’t get to the showers as the sprinklers were wetting the stairs and the front of the building.

The resort has elevated motel style rooms and are reached by stairs. It also has a couple of elevated bungalows overlooking the river, two glamping tents and a large caravan, RV, and camp ground. Lots of grass and shade.

It has a pool and tennis court.

At the front of the resort is a tavern and a good restaurant.

The front bar and verandah of the tavern is popular with the locals and can get noisy. Consequently, we were happy to get a room at the back which overlooked the camp grounds, thinking it would be nice and quiet. It was, until 5:00AM, when a male on the room next to us started talking on his phone.

I previously booked a room through email but due to my husband admitted to Hospital icu on our travels we unfortunately had to cancel further travel I rang and spoke to office 2 weeks prior to our booking to cancel. Un be known they processed the cost of room on date of proposed arrival. I rang Lodge then was handed to manger who advised she would waiver and not charge. 3 weeks on money not credited to my account again on phone they informed me their policy no refunds but to give me a credit this is their policy. I can not find this on their website but to be informed firstly a refund would be granted then now to be told no only credit. Beware

Stayed in a Safari tent for 2 nights. Booked this place 3 months in advance. On check in, the receptionist gave us the worst located safari tent of the lot (furthest away from the river and adjacent to the campground - there are 30 such tents mind you), even though we checked in at 3pm (2pm being check in time). When I requested to be moved closer to the river edge, she gave me an excuse of the closer tents being a different bed configuration (I had done my research and knew that all the Safari Tents were carbon copies to the other and for the same cost); however when I called her out on it, she mentioned that they are fully booked for the day. I stood my ground that I had booked it way in advance and for 2 nights and checking in early. She then relented and gave us a more suitable tent. I felt that I was being treated with utmost racial discrimination - being brown! Upon getting to the tent, I noticed the adjacent tents were all filled with caucasians and the faraway tents (which is the one she gave me at the beginning were all empty). I am frustrated that in this supposedly developed nation, tolerant to people of all races, that as a coloured person I still have to fight and argue my way across to receive equal treatment for the exact same cost the caucasian paid for their tent! My holiday was made absolutely sour by this experience! The management of Fitzroy River Lodge should take responsibility in training their staff in racial equality.
Anyways even after getting into the Safari tent the issues continued; the shower head was coated with calcium deposit and the water stream was “third world”. For the price these guys are charging, they should at least make an effort to maintain their property to some humane standard at least.
Worst experience in the Kimberleys BY FAR!

Run down, dirty, EXPENSIVE, and very little cusomer care.
Considering the water available in Fitzroy, there is no need to have caravaners living in a dust bowl. I'm not sure if hotel gusts are treated any better, but caravan/camping guest are not treated very well.
Everyone has their grey water just running onto the ground, taps and power points at the sites not always working.

This could be and should be an oasis between towns, but it's not. You just feel like you're being capitalised on because there are no other options in town, or for miles either way.

Very disappointing stay, way too expensive, felt completely ripped off.

Two People stayed in powered site, no map given for directions partner was told to try site electricity if no good to keep trying.
Toilets and showers filthy, Men's urinal backed up and overflowing over the floor.
Contacted reception to advise was told the ladies amenities would then be changed to unisex, a cleaner would be sent down to clean and erect a sign I requested.
No out of order sign and no unisex sign , cleaner didn't do anything to the men's amenities.
Honestly they could not have cared less and for $57 a site I do expect a clean toilet and shower.

Hi Elecia05 Thank you for your feedback. I feel that most is unwarranted and so I have contacted all departments involved, including the Duty Manager, to discuss this. Below you will see their feedback.... Toilets and showers filthy, Men's urinal backed up and overflowing over the floor. ** Not True, water in the urinal, not overflowing. Urinal unblocked. Out of order sign put in place. Contacted reception to advise was told the ladies amenities would then be changed to unisex, a cleaner would be sent down to clean and erect a sign I requested. ** Female was not made unisex, only male urinal out of order sign. I have pictures in my phone. No out of order sign and no unisex sign , cleaner didn't do anything to the men's amenities. ** HSK went down there at 2 pm and cleaned. Personally checked. I came back to the toilet the day after, to find it in the same condition, in one night bugs are back, and people walking in it with muddy shoes due to weather makes it dirty. Should you wish to discus this further, please feel free to contact a Manager. We wish you a safe, insect free journey in the outback.

I believe that as the amenities are being renovated and there is plenty of space they would be approachable. It also features in another app that dogs are allowed.
