The pub is large and has a great rustic outdoor eating area which overlooks the Dampier Harbour. It is frequented a lot by miners in high vis, has a bar with numerous TV's playing sport and of late has skimpies behind the bar. The building itself is shabby and looks like it hasn't been upgraded since it opened in the 60's. On the plus side, the food is pretty good and reasonably priced if you go for the specials like steak, chips, salad for $18 on a Tuesday night. You cannot see the bar/skimpies from the outdoor eating area and this is frequented by families and travellers quite often. It is what it is, so don't expect anything fancy and you will have a good time. I've taken a few friends from the city, and they enjoyed themselves so I just think of the venue as an interesting throwback from the past.

Positives first: Great views as we had room facing the water. Comfortable beds and good internet reception. Negatives: Very dirty and woken up early morning by cleaners talking and laughing in room next door - not great after the long drives that many people take in this part of the world.

The room was clean and the view was amazing. The food is not bad, the staff at the bar you cannot fault them at all. BUT the bar manager needs to retire or move on. He is so rude to the customers and his staff, he never smiles, he walked past me 3 times while I was waiting to get a drink and order a meal. I had to say excuse me to him to get his attention. And the bar was not full of people either. Apart from HIM we did have a good time, get rid of the prick.

Arrived at 430 to find reception closed even though there were 2 people in attendance. So I knocked on the door hoping they could help us get into our room after a 850k drive. Alas the best they could do was to point to the sign that said reception closed at 4 and I had to go to the public bar (on the other side of the hotel). The bar was busy with fifo workers and very noisy. Then it really got worse. They had lost our booking which was for an ocean front room with a queen + single bed. The guy behind the bar told me he provide a non ocean front room with single beds. At the end of a long day I could not be bothered arguing but then they charged me $155 which was the same price as the lost booking. When I queried this the guy shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry mate but that's the rate" - basically take it or leave it. Then we go to our room to find our parking spot had a camper trailer in it so we had to park in some else's spot. Add to this the people next door had a blue healer dog staying in the room. Started barking which I am pleased to say did not go on into the night. Very noisy early with shift workers coming and going which comes with mining town motels. All in all a very ordinary motel particularly for what they charge. Never again.

Room Tip: Stay in Karratha or anywhere but the Mermaid. They badly need competition in Dampier.

Gross is the word I'd use to describe the place. Arriving at 3pm we set off to reception to collect our key, to which no one was there. A sign sending us arround to the front bar to collect our key, we were pretty well ditched with the key and that was it, the staff were rude and didn't seem to care. There was no pointing us in the right direction or anything. We found our room which by the look of the the place from the outside they don't really like to accommodate for tourists, there were miners all over the place, constantly walk past the room and smoking. This was a pain because you need the door to the room open because it smelt of dust and dampness. The room was filthy, the towels had marks on them like they hadn't been cleaned and there was no toilet paper, the light shade was full of bugs and the water glasses had lip marks on them. The place would be really nice with some tlc but doesn't look like anyone cares about the place. For $150 a night, you'd be beter off saving your money and sleeping on a park bench

The place is a disgrace

The most filthy room I have ever seen in any hotel anywhere I have been in anywhere in the world - including unidentifiable brown stains and accumulated dirt all over the carpet. And here was a first - the previous guest’s dirty towel still hanging in the bathroom. I truly wondered if the sheets had been changed. Outside every bedroom, an un-emptied can full of cigarette butts. It was nice to see kangaroos grazing on the grass by the water in the mornings, though. A warning, too, that the bar is covered in “Hillary to jail” “all lives matter” and various other stickers that some might find offensive.

Hotel room was dirty. Big gap under door had allowed leaves and dirt to blow into room and was all still there. No curtains or blind to close at night, just nets that looked ready to fall if we touched them. Shower was dirty inside and out. The first shower use had black bits floating around on the floor everywhere. Under neath the the bed was gross, hasnt had a clean under there for ages. Outside had old dirty chairs and tables with old cans full of cigarette butts everywhere. Wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

Very rotten and dirty. The fridge is very unstable and the contents fall out when used quickly. Incorrect information about the size of the room. It is only 16 m2 and not 22 m2. 1 armchair for 2 people. A
second armchair does not fit in the room at all. The pool is closed due to disrepair. Charging € 90 per night for this hole is a disgrace/meanness. Built once and never renovated again! Please do not book!

Just had a one night stopover in a family room. Beautiful Harbour views k balcony. Loved it. Clean, tidy rooms with all you need, shampoo, conditioner, soap.
Pet friendly. We took puppy’s bed in & made sure she stayed off the furniture.
Had a delicious BBQ dinner at the hotel. Loved by all. Friendly service all round. Will definitely stay here again.
