We are family of four and we booked a king room to stay at this hotel for our first skiing trip in Mt Buller. The location of this hotel is perfect, just short walking distance from the coach / bus station. It is also right in the middle of the Mt Buller village, so it is very easy to go to ski / snowboarding school, equipment hire shops, chair lifts , shuttle bus service etc. The restaurant in this hotel , esp the Black Cockatoo is fantastic.
However, everything else in this hotel is very average , and to be honest with the price we paid, we certainly expect a bit more. The room is not very big, there is a Queen bed and a sofa that could turn into a sofa bed for the 4 of us. The beds and the pillows are extremely uncomfortable, the furnitures and the room deco are very dated. The walls between the rooms are very thin, as a result we could hear exactly what our next door were doing and saying, and we could even smell the food our next door neighbours brought into their room too …. We were being told that our room have view when we checked in, ends up our room was actually facing the carpark ( which was again very noisy), and the blinds in the room could not even be opened . We cannot find any switch to adjust the air conditioning in the room, so when it get a bit hot and stuffy , we have to open the window to let some cold air in.

Stayed in the Glacier Queen Studio and although it was expensive (stayed peak season last weekend of July $1760 for 2 nights) we felt like it was money well spent. Many other hotels in Mt Buller are very dated with poor facilities for a similar price point. This room is modern and spacious with comfortable furnishings. The hotel has 2 restaurants and a bar within the building, though guests do not get any priority for tables or bookings in the busy bar or restaurant. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here at the start of ski season when the rates are more reasonable but during peak they climb to around $450 - $500 a night. Staff were excellent, facilities are great after a cold and hard days skiing - really hot spa and pool - about 3 or 4 saunas, gym, squash courts etc. There is also a drying cupboard within your room and ski hire and lift pass/clothing shop within the hotel. You can ski in and out which is bliss compared to my previous experiences of having to carry my equipment for what seems miles back to my hotel room! The hotel also has a bar/coffee shop which is also nice to relax in after skiing.

The room was nice, large and warm but was not particularly luxurious, bathroom was also large and adequate. The restaurant is nice but fairly pricey ($40 for a main, $15 - 20 for entree) and the buffet breakfast was certainly good - heaps of variety and very tasty.

All in all we definatley enjoyed our stay and would stay again - however, I would not be willing to pay the huge peak season rates they charge for this hotel.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and concern regarding a serious incident that occurred during our recent stay at your hotel from 12 Aug 2024. On the very first day of our stay, my son suffered a painful injury in your swimming pool, where a piece of skin along with flesh was cut off, presumably caused by broken or fallen tiles in the pool.
What is particularly distressing is that we have since learned that the hotel was already aware of the unsafe conditions in the swimming pool. We understand that tiles had previously fallen off, causing injuries to other guests as well. Despite this, the pool was not closed, no adequate warning signs were placed at the entrance, and only a small A4-sized warning notice was affixed to the side of a pole near the pool stairs, which was easily missed.
This lack of appropriate action to safeguard guests is unacceptable. As a result of this incident, our entire holiday was ruined. not to mention I have booked private coach to teach my son how to ski for the next 2 days. I wish this would not happen to any other families.

I stayed at the Grand Mercure Chalet in Mt Buller on the opening weekend of the Snow Season. Accor had a great deal for $130 per night. We have of course pre-paid this via Credit Card.
Upon arriving to Mt Buller, Hotel was fairly easy to spot after asking the Information Center where it was. Check-in was nice and easy and our room was ready straight away. So excited to hit the sloops, we left our bags in the room, got dressed in our snow gear and left. First glance and impression was, room was nice and large. We did receive a room on Summit Rd view on the ground floor however our booking itinerary clearly stated a room on the Bourke Street Ski Run view. Our bed was supposed to be a King Bed, well it was two singles put together, that does not make it a King Bed.
After our run around the mountain, we got back to the room to get changed again and went out for Dinner and Drinks. We did not arrive back to the Hotel until 11PM. It was then that i noticed the dirty conditions that awaited us.
Coming back to the room, I wanted to go straight to sleep, I went to left up the doona to get into bed and I realised I only lifted up a bed sheet with the doona exposed underneath it, no doona cover!!!! just two bed sheets on either side of it. The doona was covered in yellow marks (what looked and smelt like piss). I was dry reaching at this point. I threw the doona off the bed and grabbed the blankets from the cupboard.
When I lay in bed i could smell this disgusting stench of vomit/piss combined. I threw the pillows off and eventually fell asleep with all clothes on, one blanket and no pillow. As soon as we woke up the next morning, we quickly packed up, i reviewed the hotel with the hotel experience card by the phone and checked out. Upon check out we were first asked about our stay. I told them the whole story about the doona cover not being on the doona and that it smelt disgusting. She offered to me to write my experience down on a blank sheet of A4 paper. I said i had already wrote it down in the room. After this, she went to charge us $279 for the remainder of the hotel room charge. In the nights experience that i had already i was furious!! I advised that i had paid in full the room charge and there was nothing else to be charged. She called for her manager to assist in the matter. When the manager called us to talk, she asked why we didnt notify the staff of the room matter. I simply advised that i didnt not have time to inspect the room and its not my job

The only way you can justify charging this much a night for what I would say is about 2 star accommodation is because of the location. Otherwise this is such a rip off. The room looks like they were from the 80’s. Very very old. The pool is good however. The location is excellent and the reason that people continue to pay astronomical prices for such poor accommodation. Why is there no one to help with luggage and if not, at least have automatic doors. Especially when there’s a high and slippery flight of stairs to climb with the luggage to get to the reception. The amount of people I saw struggling to open the doors to the hotel with luggage or snow equipment.... Also you should educate your staff on the basics on Mt Buller as they couldn’t answer a lot of my simple questions about where to buy things from. I cannot understand where or how this hotel has a 4 star rating from. Unless there is a pressing need for you to be close to the village square, I wouldn’t stay here.

Thank you for taking the time to make a review of our property, we appreciate all feedback good and bad. We do not have an official star rating and do not advertise one. The price is reflective of the location, the size of the rooms and the pool & gym facilities that you do not find in many other Hotels on Mt Buller. The hotel was built in 1995 so there is nothing from the 80s in here and most rooms have received an upgrade over the last couple of years, with the remainder set to be done this coming summer. I am sorry that the Hotel did not meet your expectation, but I hope you enjoyed the other parts of your trip. Kind Regards, Harry Wellborne General Manager

Choosing to stay at this hotel is not difficult! If you're looking for location and easy access in the village.
Everything is great until you go to the rooms. The king size bed was extremely uncomfortable (hard) the furniture outdated and uncomfortable. I guess if you're on the slopes skiing all day you would want a comfortable room at night.
For the price we paid for one night we could have travelled to the finest ski lodges in Japan or NZ!
Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food at Cockatoos was excellent although pricey! But handy if you prefer to stay in.
Internet connection is charged but you do get the first
30 min free.
We were up on the last weekend if the season and it was fantastic! Not the usual crowds and chaotic queues and wait periods.

Traveled with my wife and son as well as my mother.
Booked 2 rooms at $300+ each.

Conclusion:
- Water was yellowish. Even after 10 minutes of constant water running
- Broken tiles in bathroom.
- Previous person's toilet "stuff" not correctly flushed/cleaned. Nasty first surprise.
- 2 restaurants. Only one takes the Accor card. The otehr charges excessively for meals. Convenient.
- Manager/Supervisor at restaurant barely bothered to speak. He mainly pointed and "served" us.

I took the time to write this because I was very dissatisfied with my stay. Highly unpleasant. Shocked is the word. I have stayed at dozens of Accor hotels. This one is shocking.
Not going back.

finally i was excited to stay here at the chalet. we come to mt buller very year but its the first time at the Chalet. i am so disappointed in the room. the bathroom had mould everywhere, the tiles around the bath tub were falling off, the grouting had been patched up so many times it was flaking off the tiles. the toilet was dirty and the bed head was so dusty the cleaners had to come and re clean my room. i have 2 children both with asthma...so it wasnt good. the bathroom door has so much grime on it from people touching the door with their dirty hands that it was pretty discusting. i am so disappointed with the room that i would not reccomend it to anyone. we have stayed at a 3 star hotel on the mountain and i must say the rooms were much cleaner than the chalet!

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I apologise for any disappointment you felt whilst staying in the Mt Buller Chalet Hotel. Could you contact the hotel directly and speak with Paul, our rooms division manager, to confirm which room you stayed in and what dates. I am familiar with all rooms and walk around them regularly and I am not aware of any mouldy bathrooms and would like to ensure this gets rectified immediately should I have missed it. The Hotel was fine, location is brilliant - right in the middle of town, but it is expensive. The rooms are fine and clean but could do with some modernisation as could the bar, restaurant and reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its just a pity the hotel does't take full advantage of its location and the fantastic views.
