The Ararat Central Motel is not a young motel. Some of the rooms have been refurbished and others are waiting to be. There are continental breakfast makings but no breakfast menu or restaurant. My husband and I travel to Melbourne 3 or 4 times a year and prefer to break the journey with a stay over along the way. We were very happy with the facilities in our room [non refurbished] and extremely happy with the room rate: $85 with seniors discount. Normally $90/night.
The motel was well patronised, the rooms were clean, bed comfortable, bathroom a tad on the small size and it was quiet which meant a good nights sleep. The room had an older style box air conditioner which we do not like but again, it was only for one night. We would definitely stay at this motel again.
There was an hotel with an excellent bistro next door and cafes and other eateries within walking distance.

We chose an unrenovated room which was very clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, cinema etc. There was a pleasant pool and outdoor area which we did not make use of.

There was no vacancy at the Southern Cross, having read trip advisor we came to the Central. It is as per the other comments, clean and comfortable beds, otherwise very basic. I was offered the choice of two rooms one not refurbed for $95 or the refurbed room for $110 which I chose. Probably a little expensive for a budget motel. However it had the basics including tea and coffee making facilities and a toaster, but no milk in the fridge.

Being on the pension there is no worse feeling than breaking down in your car miles from home thankfully only 2 days before payday but still broke. After attempting a different motel first and getting told to piss off I came across the central and upon enquiring about a possible room for 2 nights I was quickly booked in and instructed on where the supermarkets were.
Taking the budget room I had no high expectations but on stepping inside I was pleasantly surprised to see that from my opinion all the room needed really was a coat of paint and maybe new beds when they have finished the renovations.
Plenty of places to get a good feed and a very pleasant stay with anything being met with a smile and a quick response from the staff.

The room was small and dingy. The bathroom was wet and the floor was uneven causing the door into the bathroom to stick badly on the tile edges. The door sticking required a hard push to get it open or closed and could be a real danger to a frail person. The reverse cycle heater basically did not heat the air but luckily they had left a small fan heater in the cupboard which kept the chill off in the very cool weather we encountered. Lighting in the room was poor.

Stayed here based on reviews, had a room that was not refurbished yet, found the cost to be more expensive than I would expect for the room standard. Very cold room, with a very noisy airconditioner. Nowhere to put anything in the bathroom, and not very good water pressure. The water took about 5mins to start to warm - hugely wasteful. It felt a bit like camping - but indoors.

We chose an unrenovated room which was perfect for us for one night. The lady at reception was friendly and full of useful information about the town. Wifi was great. Take away shop straight across the road had great food.

I stayed here on an over night stop and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. I travel extensively for work and was a bit worried about a small town like Ararat, but this motel was allI could have asked for. Dont expect big city corporate luxury, however the room had all I wanted. It was outdated but clean, and the motel is very well situated. The bed was great, and the shower head was good. I couldn't believe the price........ incredible, my usual nights accommodation is 3-4 times this amount, so in context it is even better value. The place could do with some updating, but as I said, I was very satisfied and recharged for another long day of driving and work.

Excellent location within easy walk of restaurants, cafes and shops. The motel room, though small was very clean and well equipped with the usual electric jug and toy and coffee making things including mugs but also a microwave, toaster, plates and cutlery. The bathroom was well appointed with really big fluffy towels and plenty of soap (but nor shampoo or conditioner or shower cap). Having a flat screen TV was good, but it was a pretty small screen. Breakfast - only continental available.

I had a standard room here - $95 per night rather than a budget (unrenovated ) one for $75.

The motel is about five minutes' walk from the railway station and tourist information centre. There is a fish and chip shop opposite while the well regarded but expensive Blue Duck restaurant (and bar - being a former hotel) is adjacent. Most other restaurants are down the main street, 10 minutes' walk away.

The woman at reception was perfunctory, not engaging in conversation. She lacked a smile.

My room did not have any noise from the street as the rooms were built at right angles to the road.

The room had a double or Queen and a single bed in it, thankfully with a top sheet. There was an electric blanket. Sheets and doona were in good condition. There was a choice of normal or horrible rubber pillows, and further blankets in a cupboard.

There was a kitchenette with cutlery and crockery plus a microwave, more a NZ style of motel than an Australian one. The television was fairly small but a wall mounted flatscreen.

Lighting was very poor in the room with a single globe above the table and two red chairs plus a bedside small table lamp. This needs improvement!

The bedroom was partly carpeted and partly tiled. The curtain effectively blocked light while the door had a chain on it.

The bathroom had been renovated and had a fixed hairdryer plus squeezable shampoo and soap. The water took a minjute to become hot but was then adequate. A face towel and bath mat plus acceptable bath towels were provided, as well as a hairdryer.

The motel is unattended at night which did not thrill me.

All in all an uneventful stay, especially since only about six units seemed to have patrons that weekday.
