Detailed Reviews
A genuine warm welcome awaits at The Barkly Accommodation. It is rare these days to be able to do a regional stay where you can enjoy accommodation, drinks, dinner bed and breakfast at extremely reasonable prices. That it exactly what you will experience at The Barkly with a warm welcome, friendly service and a crackling fire in the dining room to complete your stay. The accommodation is all upstairs and shared bathrooms/toilets are a few steps away from your room. The rooms are basic but clean, warm (we stayed on a cold winters night) and lovely linen and fluffy towels are provided. This accommodation is not for everyone, the corridors feel a little cold on arrival but dont let this deter you. Once you are settled in there are plenty of spaces downstairs to relax and enjoy delicious food, great house wines and after a great nights sleep, a hot shower and a freshly cooked breakfast of your choice in the morning (included in your room rate). You cant go wrong! We will return and have highly recommended The Barkly to family and friends. Thank you to the crew at The Barkly you are doing an amazing job. Kelley and Kevin.

We had a lovely stay at Rob and Sandy's place. They made us feel so welcome and looked after us. The room was spacious, filled with light and quiet and we slept so well.
It was also fun to stay at a historic building which they're working hard to refurbish. The sense of history gives the space lots of charm and atmosphere.
The beakfast included was also amazing! Top quality brunch dishes that will fill you up all day at great value.
Highly recommend basing here when you're exploring the Grampians or for just a weekend get away.
A wonderful place, great hosts... We can't wait to come back again!

Sandy and Rob provide a simple, stylish and value for money stay. Their warm hospitality and stylish rooms is what sets their accommodation offering miles ahead of others. Will definitely stay when I next pass through. Highly recommend staying here. The full cooked breakfast and espresso coffee is a highlight inclusion.

Beautiful food, wonderful ambiance, wonderful staff - Looking for that something special then this is your place.
The food was absolutely exquisite, beautifully presented and magnificently executed. The explosion on tastes that compliment the experience is very hard to put into words.
Local wines, produce and a magnificent chef make the “Barkly” the place where memories are created.

The Barkly is a real find. Thhe bistro had the best steaks I have ever had, thick, aged, top quality meat ( I am a butcher's son).
We love staying in old country hotels and this hotel was tops. It doesn't deter us that the showers and toilet are a few steps away. The place was spotless and the bedroom was very welcoming and spacious, even a small kitchen with pod coffee close by.
Eggs Benedict for breakfast or other choices with excellent coffee included in the price.
Congratulations Sandy and Rob. See you next time for sure.

The food and presentation was even better than we expected. We had the pork belly and the best creme brûlée we have had, it included a light orange taste- just perfect.
We highly recommend The Barkly and We will be retuning often. The lunch menu is lighter than the excellent dinner menu.

Loved our short stay here, this old Hotel retains the grungy-chic vibe absent in your generic motel experience but was clean, comfortable and extremely reasonably priced. The room was basic but more than adequate, excellent linen and towels etc. No
Ensuites of course, but plenty of toilets and
single showers along the corridors. Fabulous cooked brekkie as part of the tariff and warm hospitality from our hosts. Next time (and there will be a next time) we’ll do the evening dinner and bar thing, apparently also excellent. Highly recommended.

I feel like this place doesn't know what it wants to be. Up the front it is all slick marble and bar vibes, but the dining room is haphazard (eg. tablecloths so long that you trap your feet getting in and out, rugs placed so that when you push your chair out to get out you then need to lift it over the rug edge to push it back in).
Although the food was okay (apart from the vegetables which were so salty as to be almost inedible), the service was disfunctional, For example, people delivering food not knowing where it is going - I saw my meal come out do a lap of the room and then disappear only to come back a few minutes later - by which time it was cool, the waitress unable to answer questions about the menu items etc.
I hope the Barkly team gets things sorted out as they are clearly trying to bring something new to Ararat.

Incredible breakfasts, friendly hosts, rooms so beautifully decorated you'd never imagine it's a budget hotel, and clean and modern shared bathrooms. Did I mention the breakfasts?! The breakfast menu and superb coffee alone is worth the cost of accommodation. As long as you don't mind not having a private bathroom, I would highly recommend The Barkly to anyone visiting Ararat. If this is an issue, you should still drop in for breakfast - it's gotta be the best in town, or perhaps even the state!
