We came and spent 2 nights. Totally amazing back in Dec of 2022 We decided to try again when coming back to Australia a year later - which is in November and December. We tried calling and emailing. No response. Decided to book online hoping for a response. Had to reach out many times again to confirm if it was available. Then once we booked - found out we could get there so needed to cancel. Terrible time trying to obtain a response again!!! And I still have not heard anything. Love the place. But due to lack of response won’t go back again. And won’t recommend this.

We booked for 6 nights on a powered site but we had to flee after four days due to the owners being aggressive and rude. The owners do this so they create a free site which has been paid for therefore taking in more money, they are running a scam operation . we witnessed their aggressive behaviors', we were threatened with violence if we didn't leave. There is absolutely nothing friendly about this place. They do not do refunds under any circumstances

Response from Park Manager, General Manager at Port Vincent Caravan Park & Seaside Cabins
Responded 22 Jan 2023
As you know, our caravan park is one of the only Pet Friendly caravan parks on the Yorke Peninsula with our powered/unpowered sites and 4 cabins being pet friendly all year round, however we do have very strict rules concerning dogs being kept on a lead at all times and strictly no aggressive dogs are allowed. When your dog was loose in the park and aggressively barking at everyone for 2 nights in a row and you could not catch it, sadly we did have to politely inform you that this was not acceptable behaviour and you would be required to leave the next morning. This is not a thing that we like to do, but for the comfort and safety of our other guests, including small children and other dogs, unfortunately we must step in at times. In the last 16 years we have been at this caravan park, we have only had to ask a handful of people to leave early. Most of our guests, including many return guests are very happy with our park and services and go away very satisfied. It was unfortunate for you, but I know we did the right thing for we did hear from other guests the next day, that they were happy your dog was gone and they were looking forward to a good nights sleep without a dog fight in the middle of the night.

The park itself has nice lawn areas and a sea view so that gets the 1 star. We booked and paid for 6 nights and just wish we had read the dozens and dozens of reviews here about the owner, Mark, beforehand. On our 3rd night we met some lovely people on the next site who we chatted with, who had stayed before. They like the site but did mention to be careful to avoid the owner as he was rude and grumpy. What an understatement - nasty, abusive, aggressive and threatening is more like it. At this stage we hadn't come across him as he'd been away, and the staff working for him had been quite pleasant and friendly. The park was filled with dogs, 2 in particular were tied up outside one of the cabins and barked and lunged aggressively at every dog or person who went past them. Our dog barked at some people passing close to our van (as they were all doing) but he is not at all aggressive. On our 4th night our dog got out of our van just after midnight and bolted. We tried to find him but he'd run into town, we could hear him barking and we knew he would come back. Next thing around 12.30am there was violent pounding and banging on our door (so bad we thought he had damaged it with his fists) and yelling from Mark - "get out of that f@#$ing van and go and get your f@#$ing dog". My husband went out and Mark said to him "if you don't go and get your f@#$*ing dog, I'm going to go and get my gun and shoot him, and then I'm going to come back and kill you". This, from the owner of the park. He then ranted about us being kicked out of the park and having to leave the next morning, but after he had threatened to kill our dog and my husband he was so dumbfounded, incredulous, gobsmacked and in total disbelief, who knows what else Mark said. Our dog came back to our van soon after but no sleep was had for fear the owner would come back with his gun. There are SO many reviews on here detailing people leaving early despite having prepaid for more nights, including one who said they literally FLED from this park because of the owner, and I can see why!!! Needless to say we have lost the fee we paid for our last 2 nights. They have signs in the office and notices everywhere on their booking emails stating no refunds will be given for early departure or cancellations under any circumstances and no wonder given how many people are leaving after 1 or 2 nights - they would be refunding the majority of the fees paid. We did report this incident to the police. Mark's wife, co-owner Sharon, was not abusive but my husband saw her at the office as he left and told her Mark had threatened to kill him with his gun - she just laughed. Port Vincent is a nice little town but as long as these people own this caravan park, they will lose tourists by the hundreds.

Response from Park Manager, General Manager at Port Vincent Caravan Park & Seaside Cabins
Responded 22 Jan 2023
I'm glad you liked our park and we are sorry we had to ask you to leave 2 days early, but for the safety and comfort of other guests, we do have strict dog rules concerning dogs constantly off leads and barking. This was particularly frustrating with your dog as it was frequenting other sites and pet friendly cabin during the night on two nights and making all the other dogs in the park bark. Your dog was very aggressive when approached and when I went and told your husband it was loose, even your husband could not catch it and it ran down the street. It was barking again the next night and when I went outside again I thought it would bite me or the other guests that came out if we got too close, so I went and called your husband again, but as he could not catch it again, I offered to call the dog catcher. Your husband said even the dog catcher would not be able to restrain it for it was a special breed of aggressive dog. I then asked him if he could go and get you (his wife) to catch the dog as you seemed to spend more time with the dog during the day, but he screamed at me that he did not know where you were. This seemed to be a repeat of the night before when your husband did call the police to report you missing. So this review is a surprise to me since you were not even at the park when both incidents occurred. I did get a phone call from the Maitland hospital after the second night and they asked me to inform your husband that you spent the night there and he could pick you up for you were cleared for release. As for the offer to shoot your dog, that would be hard since my husband does not have a gun, but I'm glad that you and your dog were eventually found safe and well.

Booked 4 nights in the Spa Cabin using the caravan park's website. Paid at time of booking at a cost of $197/night. The park is very clean & tidy. Booking in was easy. The woman was very helpful. Asked about wifi & given a 1 day voucher. Pay if you want more. Given we were there for 4 nights with a the nightly rate of $197, we thought this a bit miserable. Our spa cabin is the one that looks directly on the water & what a view! Its fabulous. It was very quiet when we were there. The cabin is a good size for the 2 of us & comfortable. Our bed was comfortable and we slept well. The ensuite works well. Its roomy & there are plenty of additional towels. The shower has good water pressure. The air con seems to have only one speed - roaring, but even so, doesn't reach to the bedroom. Thankfully we did not need it running all the time. The stovetop worked well. There is a microwave, kettle & toaster as well. Minimal saucepans provided, but that was fine as we weren't cooking up much. The tablets for the dishwasher did not fit the machine, so after the first time of it not cleaning the dishes, we hand washed. Did one load of clothes washing in the park facilities. $4.20 (uses $1 coins & 20cent) There are no pegs for clothes lines, but the manager offered to loan me hers. She also helped me out with jamming money. The drier takes 20cent coins or $1. Our view & easy access to the bay kept us happy, but certainly the wifi situation, the roaring air con let down a great experience.

We booked using the Great State Voucher. Unfortunately we did not do our research prior. We were sadly disappointed with the ‘cabin’ and the park ‘amenities/activities’. The cabin was an old solid brick cottage style which was very very small and attached to the neighbouring cottage. Where you would share the ‘verandah’ area that had a lovely view of our car. We could hear everything happening in the neighbours bathroom. The tiny tv was directly above the tiny stove which was way across the room from the grimy old couch. The DVD player was so thick with grease we did not even want to touch it. Upon trying to use it we discovered the cords had snapped off - the manager did promptly provide a new set of cords. The second bedroom the bunks were so tightly packed in that it felt like sleeping in a cage. Families please be warned that if you have more than 2 children under 9 they are not ‘allowed’ on the top bunks. The bathroom there was no shelving space to put anything just the smallest sink we had ever seen. The kitchen sink also does not hold water so good luck doing the dishes it’s a speed race! We asked to play mini golf and were advised that ‘due to covid’ they did not have enough staff to clean the balls etc, meaning there’s literally nothing to do in the park. The cafe on the beach had amazing meals it’s the only part of our visit we enjoyed.

We are surprised to hear you did not like your cabin you booked using your Great State Voucher. The Great State Voucher scheme is a wonderful incentive offered by our state government to encourage regional travel and we were happy to be involved once again to offer our guests an even more affordable holiday and we have been overwhelmed with the response. We did offer 3 different styles of accommodation using your Great State Voucher this year and you chose to book one of our more budget style cabins. I'm sorry to hear you did not do your research for I think you should have booked one of our Deluxe Cabins on offer for they are a more modern and spacious cabin. Our standard cabins are a simple & affordable accommodation option as stated on our website and the size of the rooms were mentioned on the great state voucher promotion. These cabins are very popular with families on a tight budget and workers who are not here for the view. The advisory sign regarding the age of children to use the top bunks is only "advisory" for the Australian Standards states that the risk of injury or death from a fall from an elevated bed is 10 times higher for children under 9 years of age, compared to a non elevated bed. The cabin is advertised as having 2 bunk beds and it is ultimately your choice if you allow your children to sleep on them. We are also saddened that our putt putt golf course is closed due to the high risk of COVID-19, but we made this decision to keep both our guests and our staff safe as much as we can. We do thank you for letting us know of a couple of small maintenance issues and we will rectify these immediately for we do take great pride in our cleanliness & maintenance over the whole caravan park.

This park has to be one of the cleanest and best maintained parks we have stayed in for quite some time. They offer pet friendly cabin accommodation in a very comfortable cabin in a quiet location, a credit to the owners. The cabin was basic but clean, close to town and beach front. The owners were welcoming and friendly. I would have no hesitation recommending this park to anyone venturing to port vincent. We will definately return in the future.

I am not sure where to start, except to say that I wished I had read the other reviews before booking. I booked for 13 nights and stayed one, before fleeing, and yes that is the word, on the second evening, leaving this feral place and over a thousand dollars worth of booking behind. The amenities are absolutely basic to the point of being inadequate. Two small saucepans and small frypan. Two burners. Not even a pair of tongs or a bowl for salad. Given that there is only one takeaway place in this town open at dinner time and with a really basic menu, it proved impossible to cook dinner for a family. The bed frame appeared broken or loose, it creaked every time one of us moved. There was one double bunk provided for our grandchildren, but as they are both 5 they were not permitted to use the top bunk. Hence both had to sleep squashed into the bottom bunk. Don't get me started on their advertised 'family friendly' facilities. The Putt Putt course was smaller than my family room, weather beaten and in really bad condition and for this a fee of $30 was charged. The DVD player did not work and the manager said she would get someone to maybe look at it 'tomorrow'. WiFi had to be paid for, approximately $6 a day for half a GB. The playground consisted of a few weather beaten old items, like a toddler slippery dip. What really set me off though was the behaviour of some of the other 'residents'. One particular group practically overtook the place, hogging car spaces, hogging the bar-b-q facilities and camp kitchen and being loud, drunk or on drugs. The first morning one of the males wandered into the female shower block and accosted one of the females (probably from the same group). This behaviour brought on a panic attack in me as there was no help available. Attempts to report this to management failed as the phone was not answered or the office attended. A lot of the other reviews have said the same thing. The owners just do not care to walk around and see that things are OK. The office (officially open between 10-6) seems not to be attended for a large proportion of the day. The same group of ferals then cranked up their music from early afternoon, singing (badly), drinking, taking over the amenities such as the common area. Another attempt to contact the office for some support ("Noise is not tolerated") met with another unanswered telephone call. It was at that point we had enough. We literally threw everything into the car, dropped the key in the after hours box and fled. I did a quick clean of the cabin before we left and it was then a lot cleaner than when we found it (a tupperware lid was under the quilt when we made the bed on arrival). There was no contact at all from management until I emailed them the next day to say we had put the key in the box and would not be returning. The short 'thank you for letting us know' was emailed back later. No inquiry as to whether we were ok, or what the problem was, let alone an offer of even a partial refund. I am still shaking as I write this. I have never stayed in such an unfriendly, scary place anywhere in Australia. The place is appalling, the managers unbelievable in their lack of concern or interest. I do not want to give this place any rating at all. Don't even think twice about booking, just don't do it.

Response from Park Manager, General Manager at Port Vincent Caravan Park & Seaside Cabins
Responded 14 Feb 2022
I'm sorry to hear you did not have an enjoyable stay. When staying in caravan parks, you do have to expect a bit of noise and share common spaces with other people especially during busy times such as school holidays. We are generally a small, quiet little caravan park and as the caretaker lives in the park, it is very unlikely that excessive noise is tolerated at any time, but if you felt unsafe or felt the noise was too loud or late in the evening, you should always ring the office and make sure to leave a detailed message as we check the messages promptly. You will find the office is closed for general enquiries and retail sales at the moment to minimise contact with COVID-19, but it is open from 2pm – 6pm for check ins and you can always phone and leave a message if you need something outside of these hours. Our standard cabins are some of our smaller, cheaper style of cabin accommodation we have at our caravan park. They are simple and affordable and are quite popular with some of our regular families wanting to get away on a budget. We do have a range of other larger cabins including deluxe cabins, luxury spa cabins and 4 bedroom villas. Maybe you should book well in advance if you want to book one of these larger cabins next time. We did attend to your cabin the next morning to fix your DVD and check the bed and noticed that you may have check out early and later found your key in the box. We did not think a lot of it for we have had a few cancellations that week with the recent COVID-19 outbreak, but we did proceed to check the DVD and it seemed to be working for us and the staff check the bed and no matter what they did, they could not get it to make any noise…. It was unfortunate that your visit did coincide with a bit of COVID-19 activity as there were a few businesses and activities closed in town (including our Putt putt), but there is not much we can do about these things in these uncertain times. It is good to see people and families still coming to Port Vincent and getting out and about outside enjoying the beach and fresh air, but we all must do what is best to keep our park open and keep our staff and our guests safe.

The deluxe cabin was average. Could of been a little more cozy , just a rug on the floor, perhaps a personal touch would have been nice. The TV didn't work, had to approach owners - the owner came and eventually replaced it as the one in the cabin wasn't was not working. ( perhaps these basic things need to be checked. The owner didn't appear happy being asked to come have a look. Not very approachable I thought. Parking is a tight squeeze for bigger cars. Sign out the front states 1 car per site, perhaps the caravan opposite us couldn't read sign. 3 cars to one van parked on lawn area, which is why it was hard to get in and out of our park lot. Prices on website don't match what we paid for ours per night by $35 more. I don't believe it to be worth it. Overall pretty average. There is no free wifi. Unless you pay for it. Most places we have stayed at, have free wifi for there guests.

Thank you for you feedback Toni, We will take this on board. The price you paid is correct for the school holiday price. The deluxe cabins do drop down in price by $35 next week to our off peak price. Maybe that was the price you were looking at on our website? I'm sorry if the caravan site opposite you had to many cars but if you came and told us, we could have asked them to move them for you. We don't know these things unless we are told sometimes. Much like your T.V. which was working for the last guest but sometimes these things happen. We always have spare appliances on hand and we did replace it straight away with an even bigger T.V. Overall, I hope you managed enjoyed your weekend.

The location is good , facilities are basic but sufficient. The owner/managers are definitely over this place and should sell up they are rude and lacking in any customer service. If you’re looking for friendly country hospitality this is NOT the place for you !!! On their map of available facilities they clearly show a basketball court which we tried to use , we were subsequently told to leave as it was private property and we were stupid and would incur a $2000 fine which then finger pointing Sharon (owner) upped to $20,000 & then threatened with police attendance. We came here as I recently lost my son and now I feel worse for coming ... should have stayed home . Please don’t bother to respond and defend your bad behaviour Sharon you have so many bad reviews , you should be ashamed Would not come back , would not recommend

We are glad to hear that you liked our location as much as we do. We can ensure you that our staff are always happy to accommodate all the lovely guests and return guests we have had stay here over the years. Our standard cabins are an affordable and well equipped accommodation option. We do have other larger deluxe cabin available, including a beachfront spa cabin, but you sometimes need to book in advance for these for they are very popular. We are sorry you experienced some confusion with a newly added area to the park that was unfortunately closed at the time of your visit due to construction. It will be a great addition to the park when it is finished but we do have builders and trades people working in that area at times and the area could be dangerous. This is quite normal for parks to have areas closed off to guests from time to time, but we did have both entrance gates to this area locked and well signed with "DO NOT ENTER" signage. Unfortunately you may not have noticed this for you climbed over the fence where there was no signage when you were politely asked to leave. I would like you to know that we have taken your feedback into consideration and have added the "temporary out of bounds area" to the park maps to minimise confusion.
